  1. I work in a busy labor and delivery and often have to take 3 and on really bad days 4 patients. I try to chart in the same order each time so that I don't forget anything. I always write my assessments the same, age G&P's reason pt is here ex ROMNIL, GHTN, in early labor or whatever the reason my be. I then assess baby, mom's ctx, and head to toe assessment. It may sound simple but writing my notes the same each time just helps me get my charting done quickly without forgetting anything. I also multitask as suggested earlier, the more efficiently the better. I always ask my patients if everything is ok or how they are doing before I leave the room, I find it makes them feel better and saves me time from having to answer call lights. Good luck!
  2. I had problems with plantar fasciitis too and I bought a pair of z-coil shoes and I could tell a difference within a week. I have been wearing them for a few months now and I don't have anymore problems, I get sore all over on long days but the next morning I can get up with out wanting to crawl to the bathroom because my feet still hurt so bad. It's so nice to enjoy my days off without foot pain! check it out: http://www.zcoil.com/
  3. This site helped me maybe it will help you http://www.career.vt.edu/JOBSEARC/thankyou.htm My thought is when in doubt send a card, it always looks good! Also make sure you mention something specific they said to you to show you listened and to remind them
  4. Yes, I only studied for two weeks. But that is ALL I did, I studied 98 hours when I totaled it all up. I did 3000 questions and I took the HURST review in that two week period. The HURST is awesome, they have an online review if you can't get into a live one. It was so worth the money! I really feel like I made a lot of connections and they made me not hate endocrine!! I have a friend who took Kaplan, she really liked it. I used one of Kaplan's CD's of questions, I think it helped too. Good Luck! Elle
  5. Well, I took the test Monday June 5th and got my early results today, and I passed! I Studied for 2 weeks took the awesome HURST review! I did 3000 questions, which I really feel helped a lot. My test cut off at 75 and I felt good about it. Kaplan questions are more representative of nclex and I feel helped me more, but Saunders had much better rationales so I did most of my quesions with their cd. NCLEX 3000 or 3500 were too easy in my opinion. But I think if you do a good review and you do between 2000 and 4000 you will be prepared, after all we did get through nursing school and 85% of people pass this test on the first go around! But anyway, it is amazing that you can remember all of that stuff about the electrolytes but it always helped me to keep it simple. So I think Potassium think cardiac, either up or down and you will have problems. Sodium think neuro and fluid status, i.e. dehydration or overload. Calcium and Magnesium think sedatives, and you can figure out what will happen, i.e. too much sedative or too little and you will be able to figure it out. That always helped me at least. So to conclude my rather too long quote, we are not suppose to know everything just do the best with what we know!
  6. I PASSED!!!!!!!!! I got my early results this morning and boy were they worth the money!!!!!
  7. I feel the same way. I am scheduled to take the exam on June 5th. Less than a week away now. :chair: I feel like I am going go crazy waiting and I don't know how to use the time I have left most efficiently. I am to the point where I am just ready for it to be over. I took the Hurst review last week and I feel like I had a lo of light bulbs go off but They said we have to know the whole binder they gave us by heart and it is thick! Well anyway, I hope it helps you to know there is someone else feeling just like you. Best of luck! :lol_hitti let's not beat ourselves up too much!
  8. I have looked at the website for the NELRP, but I am a little confused. I graduate in May 2006. I start work at a qualifying facility in June 2006. When do I apply for this program, do I wait until I have me license and apply next year or am I eligible to apply this year? Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks, Elle
  9. I am not sure, but at my school in TX we fill out a declaration form. As long as he is honest from my understanding it should not be a problem. It becomes a problem if he tries to lie/hide his hx. I would talk to my advisor if it was me. best of luck!
  10. Have you researched TX nursing conditions? Are you aware of the patient to nurse ratios? Most of my clinical experiences have been with nurses who have 7 or more patients. Nurses are not treated kindly in TX. Have you researched the difference in TX hospitals vs. CA hospitals? Most CA hospitals are way more advanced than TX hospitals. In TX for the most part EVERYTHING is still done by hand. Charting, medications, room charges, just about everything is done with pencil and paper. There are some hospitals that are fortunate enough to have updated to having the patients information on the computer, but they are not in the majority. If you like the "Ross" brand of nursing job quality you'll find it here in TX. Well actually, it might be closer to the Wal-mart brand, but if that works for you then great. Like I said. We are all entitled to our opinions. Best of luck to you
  11. I know how much the rent is, I am a research coordinator. I research everything. I am married. We have enough money saved right now, we COULD buy a house if we wanted to. My husband is going to be a doctor, so I guess we will be just fine. People are fake here in TX too. They will smile to your face and then stab you in the back. Most Texans are conservatives, and dare anyone have any opinions that don't coincide with their beliefs. There is a reason why you can buy a hamburger at Mc Donald's for .99¢, quality. There is always a reason behind prices, supply and demand. It wouldn't be so expensive to live in CA if it was as awful as you make it sound. There is a reason why TX is cheap, and soon enough you will see it first hand. We have considered moving to Austin, TX and buying a house and living the "comfortable" life. It is our opinion that it would be better for our children to grow and flourish mentally elsewhere. We want them to have their own opinions and we don't want them to HAVE to play football or be a cheerleader to benefit from the school's budget. We want a lot for our children, a lot of things we can't give them if they are surrounded by close minded people with egocentric belief systems. We don't party, we save our money, our priorities are just fine. Since it is so cheap here in TX why didn't you move before you were in nursing school? We have nursing schools here too. We are all entitled to our opinions, and they are just that opinions. Nothing more, nothing less. Best of luck to you.
  12. USFguy, I wish you the best . I really do. It sounds like you have had enough of CA, and I understand that. I feel the same way about TX. I am not going to get into a word fight with you. It just seems recently everyone thinks TX is so great, and I do not agree. By the way my parents live in TX and didn't send me to college, I sent myself. The roads are great here in TX, because all of the state's money goes into roads and football. I don't know if you have researched TX schools but they are not great either. I hope your kids don't want to participate in any academic after school activities, because there is no money for that here in TX. The football team needs new uniforms every year, that's more important than new textbooks or computers. My parents have to pay for my brother and sister to go to a private school just so they can get a decent education, which they have to work OT to pay for. I hope you love it here in TX, I have lived here all my life and I've had enough. When I choose to buy a house I might move to another state if the bubble market in CA hasn't busted yet, but it won't be TX. Nowhere is perfect.
  13. I live in TX. I am moving to CA. I am sorry to say but I have a feeling USFguy has not spent enough time in TX. The weather especially in Houston is hot and humid. They have awful pollution. When I visit my family there my eyes hurt so bad from the pollution, I can't even put in my contacts. People are more to the left in Houston than in most places in TX, but that isn't saying much. I would take an "uneducated" liberal over a conservative "educated" person any day. I just hope USFguy really takes some time to visit TX. I think there is more to give up in CA than just "image and luster". If living comfortably means having a five bedroom house, I am willing to be uncomfortable. I just can't justify having excess stuff like houses, cars, and other material items as being worth giving up great weather and open-minded people. Oh well, to each his own.
  14. Most important of all NEVER NEVER NEVER try to involve your home health nurse in a menage a trois by having your wife stand blocking the doorway talking dirty while you attempt to rub your genitals with your good hand! I felt soooo used.:imbar OMG what did you do?
  15. Wow! Thanks for all the great advice and information! It has all really helped!
  16. Thanks, for the advice. Considering the cost of living and pay, since I won't be able to buy for a while, would you recommend living somewhere like San Francisco? San Francisco was my original choice, but sticker shock scared me into Sacramento. Is the cost of living as significantly cheaper in Sacramento as it seems on paper? Thanks for your help.
  17. I don't know what you are looking for....but I doubt TX has it....It's almost always hot and humid.....generally people are very close-minded....no offense to fellow texans. I am willing to tell you more if you care...but I just don't think many people would like it here.....unless they were hatched into it......best of luck to you.
  18. I graduate nursing school in one year. I live in TX now, and I want to move to CA. I have researched the cost of living difference, but I think real people can put a better picture to reality than numbers and articles. I really want to get away from the Texas mentality, i figured moving while i am still use to a poor college student's existence may make the transition easier to get use to financially. Any advice about CA, and specifically Sacramento would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Elle
  19. I am in nursing school and I respect and enjoy working with the guys in my program. They are great, they get more respect sometimes just because they are men. I notice doctors seem to respect them more than females, but I live inTX and that is par for the course here. I enjoy working and studying with the guys because they add a new dimension to nursing and we need more guys! So come on you can do it!
