Patient Satisfaction Surveys
Your posts precisely reflect my mindset pretty much all shift. I couldn't have said it any better. And I feel like I too am getting a bad attitude about my profession... but you're 100% right - it's ridiculous!

what's your pet peeve?
THIS is why I've moved to night shift, and will never do days ever again! The family members and their demands and complaints. It made my shifts so grueling, I even thought of leaving nursing! Not so anymore, thanks to the nights. I hate when the doctor leaves the room, and the families start asking ME what the root cause of the patient's disease/problem is. I'm like, "the doctor was just in here, you didn't think to ask her?" (I don't say this, because then guess what: bad Press Gainey scores, which is another pet peeve).

Initial Drug Test
I'm surprised they considered 30 ng/dl to be positive (unless this was your confirmation test results). In my opinion, I don't think your career is ruined & I'm glad your school won't report you to the board. I hope they'll allow you to graduate. Just know for future purposes, that we can be fired from the hospital on the spot for having the Lord's Leaf in our system, AND be reported to the BON for years-long monitoring. Even by being in the same area as Ganja fumes, we can get THC in our systems. Good luck to you, and keep us posted on how it all turns out!

Let's have some fun!
Here's to Dilaudid every 2 hours. Here's to wiping booty & giving patients showers. Where oh where are the PCTs! 'Cuz I'm standing in C. diff up to my knees. What about the family members, who make you insane-y? Be nice to them or they'll notify Press Ganey.

Nurses smoking weed?
I read about several entities developing cannabis breathalyzers. They detect use within a 2 hour time frame I believe: THC Breathalyzer - Cannabix Technologies Inc. And this $7 saliva test SalivaConfirm - 5 Panel (Instant Oral Cube Drug Test Kit with 5 Drugs) I believe the saliva test can detect up to 12 hours of recent use. Maybe employers will start to use these tests instead of the urinalysis & blood draw (30+ day detection) once marijuana's federally legal. I however do agree with the other posters. I won't risk my license & job for it.

Need encouragement friends! Tough day.
Have y'all seen this class action lawsuit: Class Action against HPRP Filed by Michigan Health Professionals I saw this from another AN member and wanted to share it here. I think more nurses in more states need to come together on this issue.

Anyone ever gotten off monitoring early?
I'm in LA monitoring too, until November of this year. PM me and we can talk! My CO states that I am up for making a request for decreased UDS, so I am writing that request now. I test on avg. 2x per month. It's really put me in the poor house, but that'll change soon! I start my new job in a couple weeks, but I don't think they will release me before November even though my record has been spotless in the program (I do take Benadryl & Tylenol PM sometimes, but my CO doesn't say anything about those... however I have to stay away from Nyquil, Vanilla extract, & hot chocolate!). My CO was for 18 mos... in Nov it will be 2 years exactly. So if everything goes as planned, I'm gonna celebrate by having a HUGE hot chocolate WITH vanilla in it, come the Fall. Please keep us posted on your situation!

Did you ever find a job? Just curious how you're doing now.

What offends you (nursing related)?
1- When the waitress comes to get my plate and says, "Dang, you ate that whole thing?" 2- When people drive way too close to my rear bumper. 3- While a patient is coding and the person in the next bed asks for their food to be heated up. But I think there is a fine line between offensive and annoying these days, n'est-ce pas?

What offends you (nursing related)?
To a lot of people, complaining like this makes them feel better, even if temporarily. It's exactly like passing gas if you think about it. I agree though, this becomes tiring!

New Grad Afraid of Getting Stuck
I went through the same anxieties & fears when I graduated in December 2012. I passed the NCLEX in March, and had been to 3 interviews. I must have submitted over 60 applications (in a medium-sized city)... the second interviewer hired me. I started orientation April 21st. You ought to keep bombarding the hospitals with your applications... somebody is going to call you. And hiring somebody can take weeks, sometimes months. I think you will have something before your loans come due. I wish you the best of luck, & congratulations!
