  1. Be on the lookout for Stony Brook Nursing First letters. Just received my denial letter today.
  2. I also applied for it. I've applied to Stony Brook 2 times prior. It is extremely competitive so I'm hoping this is my way in. Good luck!
  3. There are 2 information sessions at the end of this month. All the info regarding these sessions came with the acceptance letter packet. We don't know much about the program yet.
  4. You can find the course sequence on the nursing site -- it has the layout of all 4 semesters. I don't believe we can register until orientation or thereafter. According to previous years it looks like we have set dates for our registration.
  5. I was going to call also because I had the same thought. The only way I found out was that I saw in my bank account that my check was cashed.
  6. It is 2 points added to your academic preparedness category on the rubric, not 2 points added to your TEAS score specifically.
  7. Oh, wow. Then I was way off lol I guess the old version was 80+ for advanced.
  8. No, 78 is proficient. I believe advanced is 80+. Good luck!
  9. It's all in this thread, but I scored a 78 on the TEAS, I have all my prereqs completed with almost all A's and I have a bachelor's and master's degree. I received my acceptance letter this past Friday.
  10. I did not score advanced on my READ, but I did get in. So there is still hope if you did not score advanced!
  11. I'm going to try to answer some questions as best I can. Financial Aid: you may be able to get financial aid for a summer semester, but you will have to discuss that with the financial aid department. I know I received aid for summer courses when I did my bachelor's degree -- not sure how exactly this works for Suffolk. Also, you should be able to get some aid for part time coursework, meaning either you need a courseload of at least 6 or 9 credits (I forget which - but I also was about to get aid in my bachelor's program for having less than 12 credits). Again, ask the financial aid dept for exact details. Deposit is $100 due March 15 for RN program. It cannot be paid online. They do not provide that option, as the only option they provide is to mail a check with the completed form. I've been around the block a few times - I have an associates from Suffolk already, a bachelor's degree and a master's degree. Hopefully I'm giving some helpful info.
  12. Hey guys, I received my acceptance letter today for the RN day at Grant. Deposit is due March 15. Adding that the deposit is $100. Good luck to those still waiting to hear!
  13. It's usually the second week of February. And the email will send you to your acceptance decision. No interviews for this program. You'll either get a yes, no, or waitlist right then.
  14. Every applicant receives a solar login.
  15. Hey everyone! Made the last minute decision to apply. Spoke to admissions and they said they are still accepting applications (thankfully). Now I'm just waiting for my letters of rec to be submitted. Congrats to those of you who have already been accepted! I'm crossing my fingers for myself. I volunteer at Sloan Kettering and I just finished a CNA program.
  16. You are correct. Official transcripts are only submitted if you are offered admission. Unofficial transcripts that were uploaded to the application are all they need for the application process itself.
  17. Hey! There's already a thread for this year's incoming applicants so hop on over there. I'm sure someone there will ease your nerves. https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/suffolk-county-community-1076471.html
  18. Most 12 month accelerated programs are 4 semesters, just like a traditional program, only you don't get large breaks. I have applied to many an accelerated program because I am in the exact same boat as you! Considering you have already started a nursing program, though, those credits/classes more than likely will not transfer to the new program. Are you alright with starting from scratch? If so, I would say go for it. Plenty of people have applied to and successfully completed accelerated programs. Good luck to you!!!
  19. Hey everyone! I plan on submitting my application in a couple of days. I'm still waiting for one letter of rec. I applied to the accelerated program but was denied. I have an undergrad degree and a master's degree. I volunteer at MSK and just got a job at SBU Hospital as a CNA. I'm hoping the job offer at their facility gives me a better chance of getting in this time around. Good luck to everyone!! And happy new year!!
  20. I hope more people join the thread also. It's nice to chat with people who are in the same boat. My first choice was Grant, but I just got a job at SBU hospital so I may change my first choice to Ammerman. Good luck to you and happy new year!
  21. Hey! I also applied. A&P 1: A A&P 2: A Eng 1: A Eng 2: D Micro: A Psych: A Stats: C+ TEAS: 78% Stats & Eng 2 were taken my first year of college (2003-2004), when I was not at all serious about being in college. I had applied to Suffolk a couple of years ago, with relatively same scores (slightly lower on TEAS) and got in, so I'm hoping the applicant pool is similar and I get in again. I turned them down the first time because it just wasn't the right time for me. I also hold a master's degree, so my academic preparedness is pretty high -- that's the only thing I'm counting on getting me over the hump, as it seems I have similar grades and TEAS score as others who have applied in years past. Mshanaghy, congrats on the TEAS score! That is super impressive!! You should be a shoe-in with that score and great grades in the sciences. Murman, your grades are also superb, so I'm sure you will also be accepted. Nice to "meet" you both. What are your first choices - Grant or Ammerman?
  22. I planned to apply 2 years ago and was told by admissions they do not accept prerequisites done online, so I did not apply. I would double check with them that they will accept your online prerequisites before you go through the trouble of taking the courses online just to find out you can't even apply. Good luck to you!!
  23. I see a lot of posts here stating that volunteering probably won't help you land a job solely because volunteers don't generally work with the patient population. I would just like to say that this may be true for some facilities but definitely not all. I just landed a volunteer opportunity at a cancer treatment center and my role as a volunteer is to interact with the patient population specifically. The volunteers transport patients, serve patients, and chat with patients and their families. We bring the patients to their treatments around the center and interact with those giving the treatments. So, for my specific volunteer opportunity I believe it will help me land a job later. It largely depends on where you volunteer and what types of tasks you do during your time as a volunteer. Good luck to you!
