  1. I second the Happy Planner. Still use mine now for work!
  2. I only bought one book in the new edition and only because it was significantly different. The rest I used older editions. Saved so much money.
  3. At one of my jobs, when I am the only nurses on and cannot leave the unit, I am paid for my break.
  4. Read the book The Buddha and the Borderline: My Recovery from Borderline Personality. It offers great insight from the view point of a person living with BPD and her journey through recovery.
  5. I'm with at 2 different hospital on acute inpatient wards, in BC.
  6. I love being a Psyc nurse and for me, it's not just passing meds and charting! Today I did my meds and charted for my patients, but susi did mental status exams on all of them, did iv meds and an in and out catheter for my patient q4 hrs, did medication education, diffused many situations, counseled a pt on alternatives to medication for severe anxiety, did 2 dressing changes, passed meds, prns and charted it all!
  7. We're currently have 2. 1 for q4 hr antibiotics and one that is saline locked, unsure of why..
  8. I used a couple of Psyc nclex books and my notes from school.
  9. Thanks!
  10. It was not as bad as i thought it would be. Common sense scenarios.
  11. Woo hoo! Got my exam results letter a week early! I passed. Looks like my cohort has a 100% pass rate.
  12. My site has both 8 and 12 hr shifts on the 3 units .
  13. Ours all wear business casual as well.
  14. Martial arts cannot not and should not ever be used on any patient, psyc or not. Learning how to verbally de-escalate a patient and how to get out of grabs, hairballs, etc is useful, but martial arts will get you into trouble. Try looking for non-violent crisis intervention training instead.
  15. I had mono vision for and had to have a correction done 45 days later as I could not adjust to it. I had really bad headaches and couldn't see clearly. Apparently this happens to a small percentage of people.
  16. While it may not be the best program nomark, it was the best choice for me and some of my peers who took it. Going to Douglas is not always an option. I needed the flexibility that online learning afforded me. While it definitely has its challenges, I learned a ton and fresh that I am ready for the licensing exam.
  17. They are several in ft St john As there is a severe Dr shortage up there
  18. If you love in the outlying communities it's not too bad and could manage. My sister pays 850. Inclusive for a 2 bdrm basement suite. Houses are expensive to buy right now.
  19. 31.xx/ hr to start
  20. We have a 1:6 ratio on the acute psyc floor I with on, with a mental health worker as well for supports.
  21. So, to check back ink on this thread, I have now graduated from the psyc nursing program and write my licensing exam in a bit over a month. I already have been hired in Fraser health and have 2 other interviews for next week. At least 6 others in my cohort have jobs and many others are interviewing for the different health authorities. While it wasn't always the easiest or smoothest way to learn, I feel confident that I will be successful in the exam.
  22. We can apply for the same jobs, just not supervisory without a ba. I want worried about that as I have my ba in psyc. I have spoken to several Stenberg grads working in the field who all have been hired by various organizations. I am not concerned about getting a job in November.
  23. I understand that a full nurse had 3-5 patients. What I meant was that we were doing all the same duties as the other nurses in the floor within our scope.
  24. Contact the crpnbc to see if you can get the pass rate.
  25. By the end of both hospital placements, we were acting as full nurses within our scope with minute supervision. In the acute psyc rotation, by the end I had a patient load of 3 and a patient load of 2 for the med surg. We were doing full med, charting, observations in other departments (etc, imaging, surgery, etc).
