  1. One home I worked in had a cat. We always knew when someone was going to die because that cat would lay either on the bed or in the doorway. Always wondered if the residents realized this. None did that I know of but would sure make me "nervous" if the cat came near me lol
  2. That seems to be a common thread. Our LTC has "children" on the one hall. There has never been children there at least not that lived there. The home was built on farm land that had never been anything else. Although a lot of the residents in the past were moved from the old home that used to be the county "poor house" that was built in 1850. :gandalf:
  3. :roll :roll :roll :roll :roll :nono: This is absolutely Hilarious and I can see it happening!!!!!!
  4. I have worked LTC with hospice etc for a very very long time. (God I'm getting old) Anytime you get a resident/patient talking to a dead relative with great deal of pleasure on their faces or say look at the pretties you can bet probably 99% of the time that person will die within probably 24-72 hrs. People tell me I'm nuts but believe me I've seen it way too many time. We also have a resident who is very demented and chants etc. Well when she gets extremely loud and hangs around outside a certain person's room, you can almost bet that person won't be there long. Rosie:kiss
  5. Ok you are all gonna say that I'm cruel as hell on this one and yea I guess I was. We had this one LPN that was scared of her own shadow but was constantly trying to scare us. The nursing home I worked in on 11-7 I was the nursing supervisor. (I still work there but now Restorative nurse) This home is infamous for being haunted even though it was a new building compared to the old home that a lot of the residents came from. (It had been the county poor house, infirmary, lunatic assylum etc since 1845) Well apparently they brought a few of their "old friends" with them when they came cause believe me there is wierd stuff happening there all the time. Anyway, as the supervisor you had to go to the basement and check all the doors and make sure they were locked twice a night. Well it was Halloween time and they had an old casket down there for the haunted house they put on for the residents and families. Well I told one of the other nurses about it and she insisted we go down to see it. (I could already see the cogs turning lol) So I took her down and we pulled it down the hall so that it was right in front of the elevator. We got one of the aides to comes down and lay in the coffin and I went up and told this nurse that I had to go to the basement for supplies. (she should have known something was up cause I was the only one that would ever go down there alone). Well it was harder than hell to keep a straight face all the way. When the elevator doors opened, the aide pushed the lid of the coffin open and slowly sat up. I thought that nurse was going to go throught the back of the elevator and they could hear her scream clear upstairs. LOL. Needless to say she never tried to scare anyone else again. But me on the other hand, I'm bad it's just not so easy to do it when I work day shift now. HEHEHE Hugs Rosie:rotfl:
  6. I totally believe you. You had a special angel looking after you. The spirits will always protect you when you have protected them. Love Rosie
  7. I got the copy of the regs yesterday. They are marked advanced copy but are already in effect. What the heck sense does this make. Oh well we are talking government here so I guess I answered my own question. We are a non-profit county home so we have to muddle through the best we can. I'm still trying to make sense of them. Restorative nurses beware cause we are getting slammed here. Rosie
  8. We also had one named Harry Bush. What in the world was his mother thinking?
  9. I have them much more often lately than makes me comfortable. I've been in nursing for a very long time.. 27 years. was emt, lpn and now RN and am getting the to the point of being totally fried. But the laughs do help. Can I suggest seeing your doc or a counselor to get you through this bad period cause it will get better if you can get yourself through it. Hugs Rosie
  10. We Have a urologist here in Ohio whose name is Dick tapper. Had a referral for one of our Residents and I about rolled lauging.
  11. One of our nurse managers is the one that doest the bullying. Wish I had an answer for you cause I'm the one she like to bully the most.
  12. It's amazing where tv remotes can be found weeks later. (600 pounder that came to us in the nursing home from the hospital.)
  13. I had a woman demand to see the RN on duty and said it was an emergency. So I walk into the room and ask her what I can do for her. She says "Pick my nose" OMG :angryfire I said maa'm I don't pick my nose I am surely NOT going to pick yours. She said well that's what I am paying you for! You are supposed to do whatever I say. When she did this it made me very angry but believe me we have gotten a lot of laughs out of it since.
  14. Try working nites in a nursing home where your grandmother is a patient with severe dementia. I learned more things I DIDN'T want to know about my family than I tought was possible. :rotfl: :rotfl:
