Did anyone judge you for being a male nurse?
Not yet, I only received some words from an old person referring me as a doc, but nothing special. I think that it happens more frequently in old people where they were used to an high percentage of female nurses in the profession, but now, in my enviroment at the moment they don't see weird for being male nurse.

Nursing in Spain
I could get you some ideas about Spanish situation: - Rental monthly price of house, bills include: 500€. Not in city center, not in periphery. Just a common neighborhood. - Food monthly expenses, 2 members in a family: 150-200€. This could vary depends on family. - Metro monthly bono, eg. Madrid: 52€. - Average breakfast price: 3-5€. - Average menu price: 8-10€. - Sport center monthly price: 35-40€. - Ticket of cinema: 5-6€. In my opinion, it is not enough to live comfortable in Spain. There are many many people who live only to work (can they save money with these prices?), therefore less intake and less jobs. The worst thing is that the average net income of a Spanish person is 824€ per month Spain: A thousand euros â€" a dream salary | Presseurop.eu: European news, cartoons and press reviews Hope you get an idea about this situation. Regards!.

Nursing in Spain
As a nurse graduated in Spain I could give my point of view. It is true what you said about equipment is update, public and private hospitals and family does not need to bathe their patients. In the other hand, nursing is getting terrible for many reasons as: - staff nursing are reducing, therefore, more work and more stress. - Cut of salary around 250-300 € per month. (just public hospital) - No expectations of professional growth (or you are known for "...") - Bad ambient in many wards because everybody have been cut their salaries. - If you work at private hospital you can earn 900€-1000€ at the best and giving thanks. In public hospital you can earn 1.300 € after cutting salaries. And so on...

New Graduate with no experience
Hello wahida, I am a nurse who come from an UE country so I had to pass the NMC process. If you are an UE citizen I could help you because we have to get through the same process. Anyway, NMC could help you better than me.

From Nursing Student to Nurse: Smoothing the Transition
I really appreciate that you share your thoughts and experience here. I write down the advices you give. Thanks!

To RNs: Would you encourage students to get into nursing from a practical standpoint?
I would say that vocation plays a fundamental role here, if you feel that nursing is the job you feel comfortable and enjoy your work, go ahead; but this advice I would tell someone in my context, because I have read some comments about you will have to refund the loan (in US), and then the point of view is different if you have to pay a loan and you earn enough for it. I am Spaniard, trained in Spain and the government payed for me the BSN (with good marks) and here in UK I realized that the NHS pay for nurse students, therefore you will not have to worry about wether you can refund or not, just think if nursing fits with you.

Getting Recognized by Former Patients On The Street
It happened to me twice times that I was recognized by the same patient. She stopped in the street twice to greet me because I did not recognize their face because she was in ICU in bad shape. My experience was that I felt comfortable because she told me that her life goes well and she always thinks in all staff that we were around her in that time, even she remembered my name. We wished the best and thank you for all.
