How do you explain the DNP?
I am a Uk nurse (BSc) and have a chronic illness. My care is managed by both a CNS and medical staff. I dont know what post grad qualifications the nurses have, but they are fabulous in helping me manage my condition. I get more time and their approach is holistic. So a huge thank you to all CNS, however they are educated.

Help me deal with the 'tough love'
When I was new in ICU i had a little indexed note book. Put stickers in each relevant page eg Adrenaline, then the relevant info eg 5mg (5 x 1ml amps) and 45mls 0.9% saline 100mcgs per ml. Very basic but it worked for me. Each new drug went in the book, plus very brief description of how it worked. It made me feel less needy. Might be worth a try. But 4 months in is very new, and sounds like you're doing great. The Dr on the other hand may need a lesson in professional courtesy.

A day in the life of a UK nurse
Critical care patients. 1:1 in ICU, 2:1 in HDU. We have physio rounds daily, but we give almost all breathing tx. iCU is RN only, HDU have Health Care Assistants x1 or 2 to support the RNs. The HCAs are all trained to NVQ level 2 or 3.

Racial Refusals In Nursing
I once received a complaint regarding an unnamed 'fat blonde nurse' so I sent it back and stated it could have been anyone, questioned why they had sent it to me as the patient didn't give a name. I said it was offensive that they had chosen me and if they checked the roster I never was on duty when the patient was there. Nursing manager sent me on a customer care course for my troubles.
