  1. I'd like to know what registry are out in Portland or Gresham areas? We are possibly relocating before summer 2010 and am also an RN. Any pointers as far as job searching goes over there? Better facilities over others? THanks! -Veronica D
  2. Anyone who wants to share your brain with me can PM or email me your email, using the links below my name.
  3. I have seem an awful pattern of Hawaii medical facilities leaving their own kind behind to hire mainland or travelers first! ***? They should be hung! We need to keep our own and nurture our own, not pay out the #$@ for travelers and transients. Why the heck did we go to school here in Hawaii and get our licenses here for then? This trend is NOT cool
  4. I feel your pain! The islands are saturated with nurses and everyone is fighting for the same positions. Its tough, as i am recently now unemployed RN from the State system and basically worked almost all facilities in my 16 yrs here on kauai. Now what? I am thinking seriously about changing gears and possibly profession. Sometimes I just want to work as a bartender or something, just for a change of pace and scene.....
  5. your not "just" a military spouse! Good for you, thinking about going back to school, but I would look further and do more research before picking. what is your educational background and work background? What is your short term goal and your long term goals? -- A friend in Hawaii :) V
  6. BSN, or just being completing an RN degree on the mainland is a plus with a lot of employers here in Hawaii. The more letters after your name the better, so specialize and certify yourself. Belong to several nursing journals and affiliations. Make sure you have it all in black and white before coming, heard of people coming and being jobless and having already signed a rental or mortgage contract! Good luck it is expensive and u might get Rock Fever just from being bored, but if you survive a few years, you'll adjust just fine and see that it is harder to leave than get here!!!
  7. Been to Kahi once dragging my 9th grader there for suicidal ideation and threat years ago. Never tried working there, but was interviewed and hired for Kaneohe State Mental Hospital in Kaneohe, HI. That place was creepy in a beautiful setting, or neighborhood. I toured the facility but ended up get an last minute offer on Kauai so I took that. Good luck!
  8. Have you worked in informatics before? can you kind of tell me what you did in the capacity? I was cinsidering going to school again and thought this would be right up my alley! Aloha!
  9. I have similar knee problems as well and try not to directly kneel down because the pain d/t the pressure on my patelas are excrutiating. If i even try to kneel down ...say squat...to get something off the floor i have to brace myself and assit with my arms to get enough umph to get back up standing. I have bought some knee braces, padded that will work under clothing but leave u quite sweaty. I also tried injections in my knees but that only lasted about 2-3 months and only heloed the cracking/grinding sounds. It feels btter the more stabel and secure the patela is so I think it might be a ligament/tendon thing. Best of luck to ya...i'll help u stand back up to !!LOL
  10. being a charge rn in ltc i can agree that proper positioning to decrease anyones pain is crucial! the only problem and biggest problem is these insurance companies that will not cover positional equipment. i know we can use towels/blankets/pillows etc, but really......to get optimal positioning items such as wedges etc .. are needed.
  11. do you happen to have any psy cheat sheets?
  12. Can you email me a copy of your brain sheet? Thank you!
  13. i float to psy 3-4 times a week. Willing to interview via email.
