    What kind of setting do you work in? I think most if not all hospitals these days use computer charting!
  2. I would just slow your roll and wait till you are actually hired and have an actual orientation date. This is in like 9 months. There is no way to plan for this.
  3. Hey everyone, I am switching to night shift soon and would like everyone's opinion on how everyone handles the big switch! I feel like my options are.. For the first few nights prior to my first night shift: 1) stay up as late as possible, and try to get myself to stay up late and sleep in as much as I can Or 2) stay up as late as I can, wake up early and then take a nap during the day. My only issue is I go to bed pretty early so as much as I try I think I will only be able to stay up until like 2 😁, so I think option 2 is really my only option. Does anyone else do this? Also does anyone on night shift switch their sleeping schedule on their days off? Thanks everyone ☺️
  4. I'm not sure where you are moving to in Arizona, but where I'm at (near Phoenix) it was a bit difficult. I was a new grad coming from out of state as well and I found out that this area has quite a bit of nursing schools surrounding the area so it's really saturated with available nurses. BUT I was quite persistent and didn't give up (definitely not trying to brag, but I really was super persistent). I applied to about 150+ jobs, got two interviews, and one job offer and took it and love it! I would religiously apply to the banner hospitals, they Are super supportive and generous with their on boarding process as well as orientation. Other hospitals in the area are John c Lincoln, honor health, and dignity health. Good luck!
  5. Go online or call ask for recruiters of hiring managers in the department you're applying for.
  6. I would look at the job openings for these hospitals, and see if the job positions specifies if they "will consider a new grad"
  7. Ask your instructor? Depends on facility. Also it doesn't take too much time to just go to your bag in the break room and grab a quick snack. Cuts down on contamination risk

  9. Go to your teacher and ask if they can go over a few questions and see if they can explain how to get to the right answer, and see where you went wrong. FYI nursing questions are pretty much, "well this answer choice is right... But this one is better". So maybe find out why certain answer choices are better. Main point: ask your teacher ASAP while The info is still fresh and before your next test.
  10. I actually start in a few days haha it's been a long wait! All my questions we're pretty much expected and behavioral based. Questions like why should we hire you? Why do you want to work here? Name a situation where something changed how did you handle it? Explains a situation where communication was hard, what happened and what was outcome? Basically Google behavioral based questions and boom. As long as you have like five - seven examples that can be flexible for different questions you should do great!!
  11. I just got hired on a pcu unit in AZ near Phoenix, the ratio is about 1:6, a little steep from what I'm used to in nursing school. It varies daily.

  13. I agree with everyone above me! Also, part time trumps unemployed. Maybe use this job for some experience and then keep looking!

  15. Don't use a different expiration date! That doesn't work! What state did you apply to? Sometimes those results come quicker than the quick results
  16. Ebooks are cheaper, but it depends on how you learn! For me there is no way I could use purely ebooks because I need to actually be holding the book and not looking at a screen to retain information. I don't know why that is, it's just how my brain processes info! If you can learn with ebooks then I say do that option because they are way more cost efficient?
  17. If they told you to apply the why not! But unfortunately I found it extremely hard to be a good candidate without my license. I graduated in may and did Hundreds of apps since March. I finally got my license in July and that's when things got rolling. Good luck!
  18. I know you don't want to hear this, but I would take some type of refresher course! Five years is a long time and some of the information you learned could be outdated! Once you master content I would absolutely do Kaplan for the questions, they are very helpful
  19. I have been in this position before, j say wait exactly a week and then call the next day just asking if they have made a decision...blah blah blah. Since it's only been like three days do not that! I wouldn't expect calls on the weekend either. Wait till like, next Monday!
  20. I would say work ethics isn't in a percentage of all people in all ages, not just the youngens!:)
  21. Thanks! Normally when I call I specifically ask for a recruiter on whatever unit I'm on, and I'll call as soon as two days after I submit an app and if I don't get ahold of anyone I just try the next day. You got this!

  23. I actually just landed my first job. I too graduated in May, took my boards in June and got licensed in July. I apples to hundreds of jobs from April until now and I just got my first offer yesterday. you need to apply to every new grad job available and try to get ahold of the nurse recruiter and the hospitals your applying to. You may want to look into other types of nursing if money is of issue to you, long term care facilities are always hiring new grads I find. Long story short, don't give up. You need to be on top of each job opening with all the hospitals you are applying to, and you NEED to follow up with them.
