  1. I worked with a colleague who is in her 60's who seems has a lot of energy. She said she loves to work and would not want to take days off if she could. I asked her what makes her motivated to work everyday. She said jokingly if you see your bills that gets you kicked out of bed. She is hyperactive at work and she could work 12 hours all week without taking days off. I can get exhausted at the end of the day just like everybody else and working long hours is not my cup of tea. Is there something wrong with her? Is that an indication that she may be manic or ADD?
  2. They did not say they would get rid of me. Before I worked for them, I heard they have fired few staffs when they had the former NM.
  3. I'm afraid that they will fire me the next time I would have any issues with my performance. I would be humiliated. I would rather quit than get fired. I have never been fired before.
  4. Hi all thank you for your reassurance. I had a talk with nm and the assistant and they went all evaluation with how I wasdoing since since I started working for them. The NM said that there were few safety issues that they need to addressed. They understand that I dont have a lot acute care experience, they will offer me some refresher course. The worst thing I would hear from them is to let me go but sounds they gave me a chance . They still put me on schedule to work today. I am still sitting in my car And heartbroken waiting for my shift. I would feel embarassed to face my colleagues because they were the ones who wrote me up. I'm thinking and planning to submit my resignation shortly. Sounds like they will let me go if I have another issues with my work. Did I make a right decision?
  5. hello everyone, to begin with, I had a fall incident the last time I work in the hospital. We called rapid response and sent him for xray and ct head. The results were negative. We started monitoring his neuro check. After the Labor Day, the nurse manager left a voicemail and said she wants to see me in her office. I replied to her call and she wants to set a meeting tomorrow before I start my shift. My shift starts at 3pm and she wants to set a meeting before 1230 before I start my shift. I felt alarmed about this. Why she wants to set a meeting that early when I start my shift at 3pm if there is nothing wrong.Does it mean that I would be fired? I feel so scared and thought of not showing up if that would happen. It would be very upsetting. I got a headache and very anxious what's gonna happen. I've never been fired before. I am a new nurse 6 months in that hospital and just learning the work routine. What are the warning signs or the process if you get fired? very confused.
  6. HR did not asked for SSN. I went through interviews with HR, NM and Nurse educator on the same day. Anyhow HR did not ask any of the requirements she asked me to bring. After the interview they told me they will call at the end of the week if I get the job. I sent a thank you note via email then the NM called the following day to set up a peer interview. I'm kinda nervous how would that go.
  7. I had an phone interview with the HR for about 10 minutes. The hospital I applied for is out of town. The HR scheduled me for another interview and asked to bring the following requirements such as references, CPR, copies of resume and etc. Does this mean they will offer me the job for sure? Thank you for your inputs.
  8. I moved in Illinois from Canada and received my work authorization. I am currently five months pregnant and wants to work in the hospital. My area of interest is medical. However, I don't have a a lot of med-surgical skills experience such as IV's, bloodwork, telemetry and etc. I worked mostly in a psychiatry and long term care through the agencies. We don't perform a lot of technical skills in those areas. I am planning to start a job hunting and this will be my first nursing job in the US. I noticed that they require at least one year experience in the hospitals on their job listings and assuming with technical skills. Do they provide orientation or training in the first place? How could RNs with little skills experience would gain hospital experiences if they don't give them a chance and if they only hire with more hospital experience? Besides, I'd like to know some suggestions on what areas that will be suited in my situation working in the healthcare while pregnant. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.
