Experience goals, what lead you to apply to the program etc..

Heads up, if you did not get in and want to apply to another speciality they reopened the deadline for several specialities from March 2-April 1.

I got my acceptance email today, for FNP.

Ohio State U. offers direct entry NP with no nursing experience.

When I was a bedside nurse at Ohio State U $25.00 an hour, you commit to a minimum of 4 hours, and they give it out like candy. After, the first 4 hours I was making time and a half, plus the other incentives so around $70 an hour I think. You could pick it up every day if you were willing to work any unit.

When I worked in Columbus Ohio, there was a bedside nurse making 260,000 at my hospital, was working 6-7 days a week though it was at a major university with all the employee salaries being publicly available.

In general 3 years part time, 2 years full time.

I applied to Post-Masters FNP, fingers crossed.

Oh yes you are correct, I thought you were out of state, it would be within a 2-hour drive of your home address, and 1 semester you would be expected to go anywhere in the state.

It comes as a surprise to everyone, the clinical portion, the last 3 semesters is 3 days a week and 1 day of classes, you have a figure in the travel times and getting hotels often complicates things. We are talking about the onsite FNP? the online distance program you have to arrange your own preceptor's. One semester your clinical can be anywhere in the state, the other semester's 1.5-2 hour drive radius from Columbus.

They provide preceptors, but the site can be up to 2-hour drive from Columbus, and 1 of the semesters they will place you anywhere in the state of Ohio, a friend lives in Columbus, but gets a hotel in Clevland a few times a week.

Ya, it's only part time which is 2-3 classes per semester till you hit the last 3 semesters. The last 3 semesters, you need to do 670 hours of clinical for FNP, a typical clinical experience is 6-7 hours per day, since most of the clinic's are open around 8 hours, so around 18 hours a week give or take. Some, of my friends in Acute care NP, where able to work 12 hour clinicals in the ER, or ICU which shortened the number of shifts per week. Family is more difficult to do this, since most place you will go to are open only 8 hours a day. There is one class meeting per week as well, not sure how they work it for online students. When I went to OSU, they told us family NP only has a 25-30% acceptance rate, so I ended up going into another specialty, I have a lot of friends who got in, and a lot who got rejected, and there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why.

I have a friend who just started the clinical portion. He said 3 clinical's per week, then one 1 class meeting per week.

Everything is garbage compared to Uworld.

One of the people I graduated with moved back to Michigan and got a job at the UM a family member got her in, as-far-as the board's go in the last semester the school will ask which state you plan to receive your initial RN license in, once you graduate the school send's a completion letter to that states board of nursing, and you fill out the application to that specific state, as far as the NCLEX goes when you take the exam you specify which state to send the results it's all rather easy. I think red cross offers BLS, but everyone I know of went to American Heart Association. I had an apartment a month before I moved down there.

Forgot to mention you need your BLS certification from the American Heart Association before you start.

It took me 8 hours to find a job I only applied to 1, I applied to Cincinnati Children's and they called me the next morning. Interview the next day job offer same day. Alot of people had job offers lined up before graduation. The school has a great reputation in that area, but if you move away no has has heard of the place obviously. When I moved to Columbus no one carried where I went to school it's all about experience after your first job. I forgot about preceptorships, you don't pick a specific unit, I think you pick your top 5 picks, and they try and place you on one.

Don't know if it's good or bad, just pointing out you cover the same amount of material in less time during the summer. Did everyone get your Hep B vaccine started, they take 6 months to get all 3 shots, and you have to have them complete by the first clinical, which is the last week of the first semester.

The preceptorships are in the last semester, you can work any unit as long as its not OR or ED, I did ICU.

If you are starting in May the summer semester is even more compressed, I think it's 2-3 weeks shorter than the rest of the semesters. In between fall and winter semester you get almost a month off!

You can get 1 C as a final grade, 2 and you are kicked out of the program. I would say pharm is the class that will keep you most busy but not impossible. I would not worry about doing anything before arriving it's all self contained

I started in January, don't worry about financial aid. By coincidence (not really) the maximum you can borrow through federal direct loans is the cost of tuition each semester. The first semester I lived off savings, the last 3 semester I took out direct plus loans for about 5-6 grand per semester for living expenses I never worked. I ended up borrowing around 55 grand I think for the entire program. Then when I graduated I took out a federal direct consolidation loan combing them with my undergraduate loans, and now working on loan forgiveness through PSLF (google it), they forgive your loans after 10 years, unless congress ends it. I think maybe 2-3 people worked 1 day a week during the program mostly locals, I was from Michigan. The area around school is very safe almost like your out in the country, north of there it gets a little rough. I commuted from Mt. Washington area paid about 650 a month, the apartments where called Deer Hill. You will need a car to drive to clinicals unless you can find a ride, if you miss a clinical then fine you 250 dollars I think. Ya it was rigorous a lot of busy work, presentations and research papers. I studied maybe 3 hours a day when I had class, maybe 6 hours a day when I had no class, 7 people dropped out or failed out of my group of 32 I think. My lowest grade was a high B, 6-7 people had 4.0 g.p.a's. Anything else?
