  1. STLCC Nursing 2015

You can put your name on the waiting list at any of the campuses, but you have to stick with the same campus once in the nursing program. Sometimes people transfer from one campus to another, but you can sign up for flo valley classes if you're in at...
  2. STLCC Nursing 2015

From what I've heard, there were a lot of names on the list, but a lot of those people had moved, changed their minds, or whatever.
  3. STLCC Nursing 2015

No, it's in the lab at school. They teach the skills in there, and once you've mastered them, you can do the skills on a real patient in clinical. The lab is taken in the first and second semesters, worth one credit hour.
  4. STLCC Nursing 2015

With scheduling, in first semester, you have lecture two days a week (I think Monday is noon to 3pm and Thursday is sometime in the afternoon) with a skills lab on one of those days, along with one clinical day (Tuesday or Wednesday) that is 7am-1pm....
  5. STLCC Nursing 2015

I am at the FP campus and about to start third semester. So far, I have had a good experience and have had good luck with instructors and that sort of thing. i don't work, but that is a big issue with some students. Working full-time in first semeste...
  6. Common Mistakes to Avoid?

When you are doing a skills check off and you make a mistake, don't come off as defensive if an instructor points out your error. Ask questions if you need something clarified, but don't act defensive, and try to learn from what they are saying. Be ...
  7. Monster of Pre-Requisites

It might seem like a lot, but it will go by quickly. I had to take two years of prereqs/coreqs before I started nursing school.
  8. Nursing School Vs Med School, no comparison

    Cool story, bro.
  9. I know that you cannot use a medical diagnosis in the r/t part of a nursing diagnosis, but is it generally okay to use the medical diagnosis if you say "secondary to"? For example, is it a valid nursing diagnosis to say something like, "Risk for inju...
  10. This is really creepy. I wouldn't like knowing that my nurse was a nurse only because of something like this.
  11. Cheaters.... What is our responsibility?

If they are cheaters, then they're not going to pass the NCLEX, assuming they graduate from nursing school, which I doubt. At my school, when you take a test in the nursing program, they treat you like you're taking the NCLEX (no jackets, no shirts w...
  12. I'm curious as to when the average ADN program starts their clinicals. A few weeks in? No syllabus yet, and I can't recall them telling us at the orientation. My program starts after MLK day. I'm just wondering what everyone else did.
  13. Best Shoes?

I'm just starting school, but I ordered Crocs Chelsea work shoes from 6pm.com. They are very comfortable and lightweight. They are made of leather and are non-slip. The great thing is that they were only $28.
  14. Four years to earn an ADN :/

I think it will be worth it. It's great that you have delayed taking out loans. Also, I'm about to start an ADN program, and most of the people at my school will have been there 3-4 years by the time they finish.. It often takes a couple of years to ...
  15. Wind chill and outdoor recess

I live in the St. Louis, MO area. My kids' school had a policy that it had to be above 20 for outdoor recess. They changed it to 32 because some kids don't show up with a coat. I would say it should depend on how it feels and the windchill. There was...
  16. psychology?

Hello- I am starting in an ADN program next month. I had some credits transfer over from when I was in college a long time ago...back in 1998. They accepted my general psychology class, so I didn't have to retake it. The other day, I bought a fundam...
  17. About Microbiology

If you earned an 'A' in A&P 2, even with bad instruction, then you can get an 'A' in micro. I'm finishing up micro right now and should be studying for my final. It's not difficult to understand, but it can be time consuming. I wouldn't want to t...
  18. stlcc waiting list?

Does anyone know how often STLCC mails out the letters that tell you how much longer your wait is to get into the program? Is it twice a year?
  19. Practice on each other?

Just curious about something. I've seen pictures of nursing students practicing injections (and other things) on each other. Does your school do that? I think it's a bit odd...like it would be too much of a liability.
  20. stlcc waiting list?

Someone at American Databank told me that STLCC does not require fingerprints at this point in the program. I would still ask, in case someone gave me the wrong info. It's confusing because their site mentions fingerprinting. I've submitted all of t...
  21. stlcc waiting list?

Do you know if we have to do the fingerprinting now, or does that come later, in the 3rd semester? I think the website where we have to do all of the background check stuff is a little unclear on that.
  22. I know everyone's case is different, but I just wanted a general idea. If you have health insurance, did they cover your physical exam, titers, vaccines if needed, and the TB test?
  23. What percentage make it?

For those of you who are almost finished with nursing school, how many of your original classmates are still around?
  24. Health insurance covering titers, exam, etc?

If only I could find my shot records. I love how I saw them around when I didn't need them.
  25. Nursing School and Kids

It's great that you have a supportive family. You'll find a way to make it work if you manage your time well. I have similar worries, but my kids are older (in elementary school). I think a good percentage of parents who go into nursing school have t...
