  1. St. john Fisher and Utica have online NP programs but they are too expensive. I think my best bet is to do my MSN online and then take an NP certificate course
  2. Hello, I have my BSN and really want to take the next steps to become an NP. I currently work and live in NYC and also have RN licensure in NJ. I work full time (50 hrs/week) so would need a part time program. So far I have found online programs to be very expensive, and the ones that seem affordable, will not accept NY residents. There are so many NPs working these days, how did they manage? Where did they study? I'm stuck.
  3. I was placed in a school that is not in the same borough in which I live.
  4. I'm not sure if they are currently hiring directly. All my DOE nurse friends started as DOH and then transferred over.
  5. You can definitely ask to be assigned to the school, but there are no guarantees. Because of the shortage they try to fill schools that have very high need (I.e. diabetics) first. But I've seen nurses make requests with the supervisors. Try it.
  6. Hi! I was wondering if you could tell me how the orientation process went for you? I was offered the Sept 11th start date but had to decline because it was not sufficient notice for my job resignation. I start this month.
  7. Sounds like you went to my school. Lol. All I know is my school experience has changed my mind about my career path and now I want to move towards Nursing Education because it just has to be done better. I have over 12 years experience in education and decided to study nursing when my school closed for financial reasons. I love everything that I am learning but a LOT of it I am teaching myself. I've had one or two decent classroom instructors so far and only 2 clinical instructors out of 4 that actually wanted to instruct. It's disheartening but it's also my motivation to work hard and learn as much as I can. I know I will never stop learning. I don't want to. That's what the schools should be instilling in their students.
  8. I'm on other nclex forums and it's the same. People post screenshots of their pop-ups (which are exactly the same as 90 other pop-ups posted) asking whether or not they got the "good pop-up".
  9. Thanks, Suey816 I will definitely do the readings. I admit that's where I've been trying to cut corners, using other resources besides the textbook. BIG mistake.
  10. So last semester I made the Dean's List... I was very eager and wanted to excel in nursing school. For some reason I started off the next semester in slacker mode, as did many of my classmates. The only thing is I haven't been able to recover. I failed 2 out of 4 of my nursing exams and I am passing by the skin of my teeth. The semester is coming close to the end (finals are 3 weeks away) and lots of students are contemplating dropping the course. I in no way want to drop but I don't want to flunk out either. I'm in such a funk that I can't seem to get out of. I know what it takes to succeed and I know that I'm not giving it my all. Has anyone else been in my shoes and made it through? What helps you get through the tough times?
  11. I guess the hardest part about finding comfortable shoes were making sure they were all white. I mean they can't have anything on them otherwise I'll fail clinical. Would it be cheesy if I just spray painted my most comfortable pair of NBs??
  12. Hi! I'm a first semester nursing student and unlike some of my counterparts, my clinical group is in full swing! I'm finding out fast that the white shoes I purchased for school (dr. Scholl's) are not cutting it on the NH floor. And they are the second pair I've bought so far. I came home today and had to elevate my legs, they are throbbing. Can anyone offer advice on the best shoes for comfort that are also reasonably priced? I've been to some stores specifically for nursing and the shoes were as expensive as Jordan's! I just can't afford that right now and I need better shoes by Friday. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  13. I'm a single mom to an amazing yet rambunctious 2 yr old. I started NS in August. I was laid off in June and decided to apply for the evening program so I could stay home with her in the day instead of put her in daycare. A family member watches her while im in school. I love my daughter with all my heart but she makes it almost impossible to study. Thank goodness she still takes naps. Considering the fact that for every hour of class time we have 2 hours of homework is intense and the first semester is 18 credits. I'm doing pretty good so far and I have a few single moms in class with me. We try to do study groups as much as we can (sans kids of course) but its not always feasible. Now we're up to midterms which are all cumulative and I can already feel my study skills are starting to become as lax. I suggest when you do start allot yourself study time. Alone! Arrange for sitters if you can or if you have significant others (or family) that can help TAKE ADVANTAGE!
  14. I've never ::knocks on wood:: had the flu nor have I ever had the vaccine. My two yr old has as part of her immunizations but my school suggests it for clinicals but we can decline... We'll just have to wear masks the entire time. I'm on the fence. I don't want to get sick. I can't afford to get sick. But I know that if I want to work in this field ill just have to do it. Mind over matter in this case for me.
