  1. I hope everything works out for you! I know how fustrating this wait can be.
  2. A&P I, lab, college algebra, computer science, english I, and some cheesey college experience class. This is my first semester but I hope to start clinicals in the Fall 2014! I will be taking full loads every semester including summer.
  3. I agree I think that the volunteer work would look good on a resume. Managers know how hard nursing school is and that you must focus on your studies. Some people can work full time and some can't. I volunteered at hospitals too and I love the flexibilty it gives me. Just be sure to detail the things that you did as a volenteer on your resume. I basically do everything that a PCA does without the paycheck but you better believe just because I did not get paid for those activities that I won't put it on my resume!
  4. Since you are done with your pre-req are you allowed to sit out until your clinicals start? I am just asking because I hear a lot of posters in your situation. At my school if you start out as a freshman whenever you met the requirements to start clinicals you get first priority and are guarenteed placement with no wait. This is something they just started this coming fall.
  5. I know how you feel. I went to orientation about 2 weeks ago and start classes on the 9th of Sept. I feel like it can't get here fast enough. I am so ready to get it over with. Atleast when I start I know that it will go by fast. Congrats! We can do this!
  6. Don't worry! I think your concerns are definitely just thejitters and excitement. They will definitely teach you those things in yourprogram to make sure that everyone is comfortable and understands the basicsbefore you get to the "nitty gritty."
  7. Congrats
  8. [COLOR=#003366]PMFB-RN http://www.aacn.nche.edu/media-relations/fact-sheets/impact-of-education here is one of the many studies that suggest this. You can look up the rest. It is not a biased opinion! And many hospitals are trying to become magnet status which is pushing out ADNs and hiring more BSNs because of the studies that suggest patient care is higher with BSNs. Hince the creation of the original post. I am not pro ADN or BSN I am just saying why write a post about someone belittling your program ADN or BSN and then in the same post belittle there program. Unless you can state facts. If everyone passed the same boards why does it matter.
  9. From what I take from your post I would say that I would not assume that you are out of the running. I would think that the hospital just posted more position because they need more people. If I were you I would apply for all the positions! If you do not get the one that you applied for maybe they will reconsider you for another position if they see your name on the list and it shows that you are ready to work wherever they put u.
  10. With the nursing surplus you must always stay competitive.Like with any other job nursing is a competitive field. Have you consideredgetting certifications in PALS, ACLS etc. Maybe you should try volunteering. That is a great way to network and meet people in the field that you are tryingto get into. Show them that you are an asset even when not being paid and maybethey will hire you! You must put yourself out there just being the average candidatewon't cut it anymore. Stay positive... if this is your dream... you will find a job
  11. I don't understand why ADNs get so upset because they think that BSN grads belittle them but in the same breathe belittle the BSN by stating that BSN grads are ill prepared and don't have clinical experience. Aren't you doing the same thing that you don't want done to you? There are studies that prove that BSN students are better prepared, which is why most hospitals are transitioning to BSN only. But does it really matter who is better prepared? We all pass the same boards, right? Get over it!
  12. Great post! I was starting to get discouraged from all the negative posts from some of the nurses on this site as well.
  13. I have never heard of six figure debt just from one BSN degree.
  14. It's like with any job. You must prove that you are leader and have people skills. Like you said many people just want to be floor nurses. So there is room for some advancement but you may have to look at other facilities because once people go into management they tend to stay there until they retire. And it does not always take a long time to move up either. Employeers can automatically see potential in those who are ment to lead (which is def not everyone). My sister is in management and she says that although she misses the patient contact that she had as a bedside, she has more flexibilty with her life (at her job).
