I am a new grad NP and had the same experience while interviewing. The majority of questions asked were about my RN experience, I only had a couple of questions about my NP clinical rotations.

Good luck on your job hunt! I work for Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree. Our facility is currently going through a huge renovation and adding on a ton of patient rooms. So I know they have postings open for RNs.

Yes grades are important when applying to graduate school. I graduated GCU with a 4.0 so that was helpful with grad school.

The instructor would let us know that the particular person did not get the same grade we did. They always told us to keep them informed if anyone doesn't pull their weight.

I wear business casual along with my school ID badge. We were advised to check with our preceptors for dress code requirements. Some preceptors like the students to wear a white lab coat - mine doesn't, she says it's "too formal", lol. She's fantastic.

I also may be relocating to the Dallas area this summer. Any tips on health systems that are great to work for? I'm a BSN RN with 10 years experience. I currently work for a HCA facility in the Denver area. I believe HCA has some outpatient surgical centers in the Dallas area - so I have the option of applying for a transfer to one of those. Here in the Denver are HCA/HealthOne systems are at the bottom of the pay scale - do they have the same reputation in Dallas?

We usually did make up their part but were very clear with the instructor so they didn't get the same grade we did. I was a little worried also about getting accepted into a graduate program but is isn't have any problems!

Direct feedback to the instructor about the slackers so that my grade wasn't affected by their performance. It did get better the farther along I went. I made some great friends and we just requested to be in the same group, and the professors usually allowed it. I am now going to UCCS in the MSN-FNP program, and really enjoying it!

I did the GCU RN-BSN program and graduated in May 2012. I found the program fast paced but manageable. I worked full time throughout the program. The only thing I didn't care for was the group projects - I had a few groups where members did not pull their weight. Good luck to you both!

ajboujieajboujie, I haven't seen a forum for UCCS on here. I am in my second semester in the MSN-FNP program, and I like it. I attend school full time and work part time (2 12hr shifts/week). I started out working full time but had to drop to part time midway through my first semester in order to keep up with all the work. I like the program - I think I will be well prepared when I graduate.

I never use it - I find it condescending, disrespectful, and inappropriate. I was raised in a military family, so I always use Mr/Mrs/etc until the patient advises me to use their first name. I don't mind if an elderly patient calls me honey or sweetie because you can tell they mean it as a term of endearment. A coworker doing though? No thanks! I always say "please don't call me honey, I really don't like it". Usually works!

I didn't have to send transcripts because I had been a nurse for 10 years already. I think I did the licensure by endorsement?? I remember that I ended up emailing because I just wasn't sure how to do it through Dora! Very confusing!

I think I printed it out, filled it out, and then mailed it. I remember that it wasn't real clear to me exactly how to do it. Once I submitted everything it didn't take long at all to get my license.

You need to register on the nursys website first and have your info available to the state of Colorado. On the Dora site you should be able to fill out your application and submit. I transferred in from NM and it was pretty once I found all the info. I had to email someone about some specifics and they responded really fast. Maybe email them and ask for the specific link to the application.

I work at Sky Ridge Medical Center, a HealthOne facility - I think HealthOne is the worst for pay in the greater Denver area! I stay because I love my job in the PACU and I live 2.5 miles away. My wage is decent but not nearly comparable to what I made in the Phoenix area when you factor in cost of living.

I attend University of Colorado - Colorado Springs online program. We have the option of attending an on-campus lab for Advanced Assessment class but those of us that are not within driving distance obtain a preceptor and a clinical site, and complete 45 hours of preceptorship. As our final project for the class, we have to perform a complete head to toe physical on a partner using a rubric that is about 5 pages long, video tape it using one take and no notes or references, and submit.

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't logged in for a while. I am doing the full time online MSN-FNP program. The classes are going good - just a ton of work and very time consuming!! I had to drop down to part time at work in the middle of my first semester to be able to keep up. I much prefer a traditional classroom type setting, but that just wasn't possible for me, but besides that I am happy with the program. It goes year round, so I started Aug '13 and will graduate in May '16 going full time. I think it will go by really fast due to the fast pace of the program.

My program starts this month, but I don't have any clinicals until next semester. I also have to find my own preceptors and am a little nervous about that! I plan on working with the education dept at the hospital I work at to help me find preceptors - maybe you could do that too?

I looked over the review they sent me but didn't really "study" per se. I was pretty familiar with Tele but I still did a pretty thorough review because it had a been a while since I worked full-time on a tele floor. Good luck!

Anyone else starting the FNP program at UCCS this Fall? I am excited but nervous!

I took it last summer and passed both on the first try. It was pretty basic stuff, but if you don't work Tele frequently I would definitely review rhythms.
