  1. Hi, thank you for the info. I am looking at Loma Linda to finally complete my OB & Peds deficiency. I also have reached into other schools to compare. This is my 2nd time of endorsement to BRN since I wasn't financially ready in 2021 & was on TN status from Canada & planned to settle in the East but my goals had changed. This also could potentially just solve the deficiencies on the other State Boards of Nursing if any, pending MA & NV. It looks like being fulltime out of state and commuting via flying from the East to West is doable.
  2. Hi, I crossed the border in Nov 2019 via car before the COVID pandemic and thinking back now, I still liked my choice. I still can visit my family from time to time since the Eastcoast/New England area is ~8hrs away by driving. 1. What are the pros/cons ? Pros - Depending on your visa/status, you can move from State to State whichever for job opportunities, I started in MedSurg then ICU. I only moved out-of-state to an employer who had the capability for GC sponsorship. - I have a compact/Multi-State RN license so technically I can work in other compact States without endorsing my license unless I relocate. - You can choose predominantly blue (democratic) or red (conservative) State w high income, protect their nurses, & follow safe patient to nurse ratio. Cons - TN Status expires every 3 years. I had 2 because of switching employers. - CNO renewals every year just because. - Cost of living 2. What were your first steps and how are you doing now? - I chose a State after attending a US career fair in Toronto, applied with the Board of Nursing(s) - 2 at that time, had my education/credential assessed by the BON & TruMerit (aka CGFNS for the Visa Screen) and waited for few months. I researched the ins/outs of importing my vehicle, NAFTA requirements, BON, the hospital, & the small city I was interested in such as rental apartments, registering car/converting DL license. - Since I lived by myself, I actually found few housemates (nurses) to share the bill. I thought of buying a house but deferred since I might relocate out of State again - possibly Westcoast. 3. Do you regret leaving? - No
  3. @Nikki Evening Hi, I work in New England (East) so we commonly use the metric system as well I.e. celsius, kilograms, milliliters. We use EPIC for charting and it follows whichever system of measurement in that State. Also, it does show conversion of values I.e. Celsius -> Fahrenheit , or kg -> lbs. For lab values, I find it similar except for some I.e. blood glucose.
  4. The Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) Academic Report provides a comprehensive course-by-course analysis of all nursing education received outside the United States. eDAS™ is an electronic document service that fully authenticates and verifies transcripts, licenses, and other documents from primary sources and sends them directly to third parties such as employers, state nursing boards and schools. Good question! ME BON wasn't satisfied w CGFNS (now called TruMerit) - eDAS report. eDAS wasn't required but I paid for it to supposedly expedite my progress but it didn't. So the BON requested letters from my schools and have their own breakdown of hours. My pre-BSN program specified Health Assessment Course lab hours (.. hr) for Pediatric & Obstetrical assessment and simulated role play experiences.
  5. Hi, finally, my I-485 was just approved this July 22nd & "Card (Greencard) was mailed" on July 25th - still waiting to materialize though since any docs/cards were first sent to hospital lawyer as per Form G-28.
  6. Not required as they have a educational breakdown form to be sent to the school. I didn't have CES Report, only CGFNS Visa Screen so eDAS would include the info re. theory/clinical hours etc. I also requested the breakdown from my school though.
  7. Any update on this? I'm also on adjustment of status i485, pending GC. My employer sponsored me through EB3, not ROW but PH. The hospital lawyer processed the paperworks. I first inquired w HR immigration specialist & they do sponsorship after 1yr of work. I have current EAD and expired Advance Parole (pending renewal) so I cannot exit the US. USCIS Visa bulletin currently processing anyone w Priority Date before Nov 22, 2022. Depending on your birthplace, it can take years.
  8. - Based from my experience/failures, it is who you know & not what you know. I eventually applied as RPN in the same hospital I was doing my RPN-BScN practicum. - The hospitals prioritized their internal staffs first before hiring external applicants. I tried volunteering & that didn't help me. Start casual/parttime position first before fulltime. Look somewhere else/relocate/commute (driving) to get that Canadian nursing experience. Try to include "phrases" from the hospital job description to your resume. - I tried nursing agency but I couldn't apply to same nursing home r/t conflict of interest.
  9. Hi. Did Texas BON respond yet re. deficiency? The Texas BON website has info re. course remediation, although I didn't see theory/clinical hours r/t Psychiatrics. You could wait with what Texas BON recommendations are. Regardless of the CES result, they could either give you the license or recommended for remedial courses. If the latter is the case, you can inquire from the schools in Texas w the deficiency letter. The BON usually would like you to complete the course w a transcript in the same State so usually preferred a Texan school rather than somewhere else.
  10. Hi. There are old postings here re. your question along lines "Canadian to California" etc w some info. If you're a new grad <1yr nursing experience then they might put you on a Nurse Residency Program (NRP).
  11. Ya, looks like even though you mail the SSN Affidavit form wouldn't answer your question. The Board transitioned to online renewal now and I can't even find an RN Renewal Application paper form which was stated on the SSN Affidavit form. You should email/call the Board & inquire.
  12. No unfortunately. I have been only in ME/NH and didn't try to apply anywhere else. Try inquiring - Level 1 Trauma centers & teaching hospitals as suggested above.
  13. Hi. Initially, what I did was to email HR directly inquiring if they hire Canadian RNs and aware of TN1 Status. I was at least connected to a recruiter who said they did. Then they encouraged me to apply for a job position & get connected w the hiring manager. In my experience, they usually have Immigration Specialist & inhouse or contracted Lawyer to process such TN requirements.
  14. My experience w CGFNS is not to wait. You can CGFNS "Contact us" & inquire the reasoning behind such unacceptance. It will take some time for response but at least you did.
  15. Did you check "My Messages"?
  16. Do you mean in the US? Here are some links to read: Working in the US How to pursue an RN in the US with a Canadian LPN
  17. Okay, I found this on CGFNS website related to CGFNS Visa Screen which is needed to receive TN status. Exemption Due to English-based Professional Education A VisaScreen® applicant may be exempt from taking an English language proficiency examination if they have completed an English-based professional education. To be exempted, an applicant must meet both of the following two criteria: Entry-level professional education must have occurred in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada (except Quebec), New Zealand, Ireland or the United States; AND English must have been the language of instruction, including the language of the textbooks.
  18. Hi. Any update on this? I do know some internationally educated RNs (BSN back home) that still needed the Canadian RN bridging to meet their competency gaps in their education in Ontario. Some only required 1year bridging to receive the "equivalent" education and be able to register for RN designation. One of my friend completed her BSN in PH but required to finish the 3year RN to BScN bridging. However, when she applied to California BON they only assessed her PH education since that was her undergraduate and not included her Canadian education which pissed her off. Anyhow, she's a travel OR now in Cali under TN.
  19. Hi @psychrn101 Based on RN Pathway #4 form for Canadian, you needed Form 1 & Form 2 as well as Form 3F. Form 2 goes to the Canadian College and Form 3F goes to the College of Nurses for registration verification. *Form2F is only applicable if you are not educated in Canada. *Because CGFNS Visa Screen also requires the school paperwork including transcripts & verification of registration - they would have a copy afterwards. After you get your VisaScreen, you can request CGFNS to send I.e. eDAS (eDocument Authentication Service - $275) to NYSED if you wanted.
  20. @Ragnhild_Frydenlund 1. What are the steps I need to take to be able to work as an RN in Toronto, Ontario, Canada? - Start w NNAS then check the College of Nurses of Ontario initial step w RNs educated outside Canada. - Also, research into area you're insterested in - hospital setting, LTC etc. They will not entertain you until you have a temp/registration w CNO. Fulltime job status might not be available at first r/t job availability/union etc. 2. Do I have to get licensed in the USA first before moving back to Canada? - This would be beneficial because of passing NCLEX already & licensed w the US Board of Nursing. - Unlike Canadian RNs going to the US w US BON having streamlined the process w license reciprocity (me included), the other way around seems to be more time consuming. 3. Do I have to work for a period in the USA first? - An RN experience is essential even if less than a year. Also, it provides you w evidence of practice that CNO requires. - NNAS & CNO assessment could take time. Why waste time! Depending on your employment status in the US, this could be taken into consideration. 4. What will the NNAS want from me? - Check NNAS. 5. Can I write the NCLEX in Canada? - Yes, but why not do it in the US when it's more convenient (w the school paperworks etc to apply) & also would help your case in the future.
  21. I hope the Texas BON can suggest the next step if deemed deficient enough to require enrolling in a course like what they do in California where they have schools catering to Internationally Educated Nurses with theoretical/clinical deficiencies in Medical/Surgical/Psychchiatrics/Obstetrics/Pediatrics.
  22. Yes, while your're employed under TN status, you are allowed to take classes without the need for another visa. However, the employment is the primary purpose rather than school. https://www.boundless.com/immigration-resources/tn-status-explained/#:~:text=Yes%2C you can study either,1 or J-1 visa. https://bdzlaw.com/training-and-part-time-work-as
  23. Hi. I withheld continuing my application to Cali BRN just because I didn't have the money before, around <5-10k per class (theory&clinical) in College vs. University vs. Private. The schools were on waiting list (1-2years waitlisted & varies). Most schools didn't offer Obstetrics & Pediatrics in one semester so I would need 2 semesters (1year in Cali) in different schools. I could have done travel nursing with TN1 status but I barely started in ICU & I didn't want to resume MedSurg. My initial plan was to endorse RN license to either Arizona/Nevada/Oregon & commute to the nearest Cali school. I asked the BRN if I could take the classes out of state but they only approved nursing programs in California and they couldn't guarantee they would accept out of state. Noteworthy that the BRN are probably stricter now because of the Operation Nightingale in Florida w the nursing school scandals. Nevertheless, I tried to inquire at my home State and they didn't offer standalone courses that I should be back to zero & start all over again despite being RN (smh). I'll re-assess once I get my PR. Cali Schools Offering Deficiency Courses from my research: Loma Linda University Dominican University Stanislaus State Evergreen Valley College California State University Campuses e.g. Chico San Bernardino Unitek College Los Angeles Pierce College College of the Desert California Baptist University City College of San Francisco Cerritos College Palomar College College of the Canyons Gurnick Academy
  24. Here's an info. from the Canada.ca website. Nova Scotia's website also has information re. helping International Nurses Currently Registered and Licensed in the Philippines, India, Nigeria, Australia, US, UK or New Zealand. Good luck!
