New to VA Nursing
Hello rhonda and athena,I have been working at visn3 for about 3 months and I dont like it at all,I was originall hired for med-surg and was placed in LTC,I do no clinical work besides placing foleys, big deal.I did not go to school to be a RN to lose my skills.I have asked for a transfer but was told I needed to wait a year.I am so upset about it.I left a great job because I thought this was going to be a better one and its not.Plus, the benefits are so expensive and not that good.

Military/VA RN's - Please post experiences for Students
I was wondering if any VA RN's who are currently employed can give me any information about the hiring process. What happened was I had faxed my resume to my local VA hospital back in 2/06,they had called me in for a interview 7/6/06,I went and met with the nurse manager and we interviewed, she said she had a few interviews left, but I would be hearing from someone after the interview process was over, she dais sometimes it takes 6 months.A few days ago I decided to call the staffing coordinator whose number the manager had given me,he stated the nurse manager was brining him tha packets that evening then they are sent to personnel,Well this morning he had called me and said what he now needs is for me to fax him 2 professional who I have worked with and he gave me the number,I was shocked he had called, could this mean I am on my way to employment with the VA?What comes after this point?Any information would be gladly appreciated as I am very excited, with the VA do they actually offer you a position?Thank You for your response.

Helene fuld entrance exam nyc
Hello, the test was just very basic math, some word problems, some division things like that.there is also reading comprehension questions. The test is not very hard at all,in the reading comprehension read the question first then go to the paragraph,it is easier that way,you should try to answer all the questions.I just graduated from the school in april,it was quite hard, but just study, study, study. If you need any help just ask me.

LPN to RN Program?
To be honest with you I had been a LPN for about 5 years before getting my RN,I dont think they are that serious about the amount of time you have been a LPN,they may say so on the phone, but in person its a different story,If I were you I would finish your LPN and then go there with your grades,if you graduate with an overall 85 or so average I dont think it will be a problem, thay mainly look at what kind of person you are, work ethic things like that, remember they are a private college and basically make their own rules, unlike your local community colleges. When your done with school look into it and sit for the admissions test, its basically basic math and reading comp. Good Luck

LPN to RN Program?
I'm sorry, the papers I had said nothing about being a LPN for a year, you should call them anyway, trust me,they're not that set on half of their rules. They have 4 different sections for the nursing, usually it is offered either in the am,or the pm,I went at night from like 5-9 tues, and thurs and did clinical on saturday from 8-3,it's all different though. They have clinicals also on tues or thurs, the saturdays were better for me with traffic.Well I hope you find somewhere to go,you should call the school anyway, they may very well tell you to fill out the application.Good Luck

LPN to RN Program?
I went to Helene and just graduated in april,It is a year long program, you have to take an entrance test,I didnt find the test to be very difficult,I dont believe you have to be a LPN for a year,I looked in the brochures I had for the school and it said nothing about that. You should try it,I traveled their daily from Long Island.Well good luck

Which Saunders book is better?
Just stick with the saunders book you have,I had brought all of them and the questions etc are basically all the same, just make sure you know the rationales for each answer, why something is wrong or right etc.

The Verdict Is In!!

Workload split between RNs/CNAs
As A GREAT nurse not just a good nurse, you should be there for the whole patient, from just listening to changing beds to just getting your pt some ice water, its you.I remember in nursing school I recieved clinical recognition because I had a 2 day post c-section who had to go to the bathroom really bad and the pt before her had urinated just a little on the seat,I tried to find housekkeeping but couldn't,so I obtaines some cleaner, donned my gloves, and cleaned the seat myself so she could go.If not the end result may have been a urinary tract infection,it could surely have hurt her,but cleaning the bowl didnt hurt me. The funny thing was that I had no idea the pt had told my nursing instructor what I had done, which I thought was pretty nice. But Always remember that and you will be a great nurse not just a good one!Thats what my instructor had told me,and now being an RN I think of it often.

Took Nclex Yesterday.....freaked Out!
Mine shut off at 75 as well,I felt I was guessing my whole way through, prioritizing, infection control teaching consistently one after the other,I was a wreck when the computer shut off at 75,but I passed thank god,you probably did too if you got the same types of ?'s,relax, take a deep breathe the wait is the worst part.I am saying prayers for all of you waiting for answers,I was a wicked woman to my faminy after that test,it's a killer to wait, but the end result will be o.k trust me.

I am feeling crazy after I took this exam!!!
I think by tuesday you should here,I had a ton of prioritizing as well as delegating, trust me my first question was dumb like the side effect of morphine and I swear I must have stared at the screen for a good 8 minutes to try and think of the answer until I had to shake myself out of it,dont underestimate yourself you probably did very well, and heres a quote from your family and friends who dont have any idea what we go through,"dont worry you did fine"how the heck do they know what I did, they weren't sitting there with me,anyway from one colleague to another,Dont worry yourself sick about it,it will happen!

I am feeling crazy after I took this exam!!!
Stay positive,I left pearson feeling the same way,I studied soo much but when I sat down it started with some super easy morphine question and then went on with peds and so on,the computer shut off at 75 and I could have cried,I wanted more ?'s because I thought I wasnt doing well and wanted a chance to redeem myself,I drove back to Long Island from rego park in a state of disbelief, yesterday however I found out I had passed!Hang in there you probably did well, keep your head up.Let me know how you did,you can go on the office of the professions site in about 2 days and do online license verification, its quicker and cheaper than paying by credit card for your results .
-
My time has come!!!Nclex tomorrow 8:00AM
When you are taking your test dont worry about the other people in the room, how much time you have etc, just concentrate on each and every question, you can do this!I just found out I passed, the time waiting was worse than the test, trust me you know the info, you just have to go in with a clear head.

Question (disaster/emerg.)
We must have taken the test at the same time on the same day, your first posting was one of the same questions I had on mine and so is this one.Mine was filled with delegation and "a nurse is teaching a test in infection contol"it was crazy
-
Delegation question
A cva is a stroke

Took nclexrn today 265 sick
I took my test this morning,I felt I was doing so bad that by the time it got to 75 I was praying the questions would keep coming, but then it shut off,I know I failed it,I studied like a mad woman and nothing I could have done would have prepared me for what I stepped into.I'll pray for both of us.
-
Delegation question
Had the same question today also,I put the one with the cva, aspiration, you wouldnt give to a uap and I was thinking it doesnt matter if the nurse wore a resp mask, the pt wouldnt be transported to radiology with active TB,would he?I'm not sure, that test killed me,I had alot of a nurse is teaching a class in infection control etc..

For those of you that have taken Hessi...
HESSI, I wouldn't stress too much about the hesi,I didn't really study for it that much,my school had a hesi review but it was a waste of time.Just review your notes, the info should all come back to you when you are taking the test,I passed the first time with a 910,alot of people in my class did not pass, however,In our school you didnt need to pass to graduate, they just wanted you to take it twice if you failed the first time you took it again then if you failed again that was it,it looks better for the school if you pass,it has something to do with the accreditation I believe.Good Luck.
