LPN to BSN online program at Indiana State University
1: they use a program called lockdown browser along with online proctoring service. So you must have a laptop with camera or a desktop with a camera. You have to pay for the proctoring service with your own pocket. 2: you would have to complete 45-120 hours of clinical depending on the course. It's recommend that you should do it every other week but if you have extenuating circumstances they are pretty good on letting people complete it in 3-6 weeks in one sitting. 3: whatever course material you need to succeed they will provide you or mention you. Also search on amazon for reviews to see which book is good for Kaplan. Also if you do some research university website mentions which book to use for the KAT exam.

How to get ICU New Grad
Also you need to get a cgfns certificate to show that your education is comparable to USA standards. Takes about 6 months to get or you can get express service by paying extra $700 to have the certificate in 3 months. Your NCLEX will be valid as it's the exact same exam so no need to take a new exam. I would recommend getting it while in Canada as it will expedite a few things if you apply for cgfns certificate after NCLEX exam.

How to get ICU New Grad
Are you in Canada or in the, USA? Also, where do you want to work? USA or Canada as they both have different paths. I can share my experience as I have done that in both countries as a New Grad. If you want to work in Canada take a post-graduate certificate in critical care along with ACLS/BLS, TNCC. Even with these certificates, you will have a very hard time getting into ICU. Usually, people work in Med-Surg for a few years before getting into ICU. I'll be surprised if you can work in Canada right after college in ICU. If you want to work in the US as you are us citizen looks for a nurse residency program. There is no such thing in Canada but the USA is great for this. You can actually work right out of college in ICU if you can get into a residency program but you will be competing with anyone and everyone from the USA. I applied for Moses cone, Vanderbilt and Houston Methodist residency programs and was able to get in 2 of the 3 programs I applied about 5 years ago. So in the USA, it's highly possible to work in ICU right out of college provided you can get into a residency program. Remember they are super competitive so good luck.

Canada nursing
Canada never had an ADN program. The had 3 year diploma program which was eliminated after 2005. Since then except for the province of Quebec all schools offer 4 year BSN. It's too late to get admission for September. Either you start a BSN in USA or you start BSN in Canada in September 2020. No college/University offer January start date. Hope that helps.

Applied to Indiana State University for LPN to BSN?
https://www.indstate.edu/health/department/son/clinical-agencies/agency-contracts Look through the contract sites first and then contact the site person to ask if you can do clinical there. You need to secure your own placement even if there is a contract already in place. As some agencies only allow their employees to do clinical. So call these agencies and ask.

Call every location in 100 miles. Tell them what you need and both the organization and you can benefit from each other. ie you working for them once you graduate. They might already have a few places with current clinical contracts in Oregon. Don't delay. Start looking from now. These things takes time. Also it's summer time so the people who can make decisions may be on vacation or going on vacation.

What is the grading system like and how is everything weighted? Its a typical 4.0 grading scale Are the exams timed and how many questions are they typically? Timed yes, proctored yes but only the final exams. Quiz, midterm and final have different %age associated with it. I think somewhere 25 to 70 questions depending on the %age assigned by the instructor.

Canada nursing
I agree with you its all stupid when its the same NCLEX and even more and less same work environment as well. Most of the books that are taught in the BSN programs in Canada are written by US nursing professors. I had to do the same when I moved from Florida to Ontario. Hang in there and I agree with the suggestion the above post mentioned of either cross border job, looking for a nursing agency or travel nurse positions in the meantime.

LPN to BSN online program at Indiana State University
It use to be not very competitive but now it's hard to get in. I did the program from 2013 to 2016 and have worked in Florida and NC since graduating. Great program and support from the ISU faculty and staff during the program but beware that you have to arrange your own clinical which is a very tedious task especially if you don't work in the hospital setting already. You have exams, papers, care plans, and clinical's depending on the course. Exams are applied questions and knowledge-based either from the book or the lecture notes or from both. Appointments can be made by emailing the course instructor if you want to have 1-1 chat via phone. Workload is huge and if you have a fulltime job or have family responsibilities don't take more than 2 courses at a time. They offer courses in Fall, Spring/Winter and Summer terms. Any site is good depending on the course you are taking. Health assessment: A doctor/Np office is ok Med Surg/Critical Care courses: Must be a hospital Community course: A school/college/public health/LTC facility Mental: A mental health agency or hospital etc. The hardest part is finding a clinical site who is willing to help you. It's not impossible but certainly time consuming and hard. Hope that helps.

Any nursing students out there with ADD/ADHD?
I have ADD/ADHD and was diagnosed as an adult, while in the nursing program. I was absolutely having difficullty with aspects of the program. Once diagnosed though the disability services department needs to become your best friend. Unfortunately, they can also be lacking and therefore you must become your own best advocate. I had to make my own plan for accomodations - things such as more time for tests/exams, extra time to finish assignments (remember that if this is a difficulty for you that you can ask your prof to release information early in the semester on what essays you will have to give you LOTS of time to get it finished), etc... And I know another person has indicated that they're cautious about a person having ADHD and being a nurse. I've actually had a PROF discriminate and state that she "would do anythinng and everything to ensure that you (me) didn't become a nurse b/c they couldn't be competent" - UNBELIEVABLE!!!! BUT, I'm here to say that I have been able to be a nurse (currently a practical nurse) and have been able to go further in my education and be successful. If you can't do a full time load, go part time - there's no shame at that! I can assert that it makes things WAAAAAY easier. Good luck to you though
