Just wanted to throw it out there that u arent alone! In highschool I worked my butt off (never met anyone who ever studied as much as me) to get into a really good college. So i got there and personal/family issues made it really hard to concentrate. I ended up doing fairly well in some classes, and well, some of them I just plain didnt bother to go to cuz i was too depressed. Even tho I had worked for so long to get there, poured a lot of blood sweat and tears into it, there just werent any benefits to finishing school there. LIke NYU, it costs around 45K a year to go to. I left and it was the best decision i ever made. I too had loans, and to this day, I am SO GLAD i didnt fork out another 20 grand per semester, and more importantly, glad I didnt waste anymore of my time. In all honesty, private schools are the biggest joke. Not all of us have trust funds, so lets get with the real world here. If you want to be a nurse, just go to a public school. Look at the job market for nurses...its not exactly cut-throat. Finish going to NYU if u wanna throw money down the toilet. Dont get anymore loans, hun, for a degree that you wont use at all. You wont even be happy, and its only gonna haunt u for a very, very, very long time. I actually did research on the internet as to how much student debt is too much....from what I gather, take what you wil expect to be paid as a newgrad, and your loan payments shouldnt exceed 30% of your income. My best advice to you...consider the amount of money u will have to pump into this seemingly worthless degree. You're going to have to go back to school most likely to finish nursing school prereqs...and to get into nursing school these days u still have to have a really good GPA to get into nursing school. Can you afford to live with more debt? If you can afford it, finish your degree and work to save up to send yourself to school. Research other schools in your area to find out which ones consider you total collegiate GPA (yah, they might look at your NYU GPA) for admissions, and some might just look at prereqs. If i was from your area, id give you recommendations on schools to look into. But again, you arent alone...ditch NYU, view it as a good learning experience, and move on.

best suggestion i can give you... Talk to the pre-nursing counselor, or the nursing school admissons rep. Any questions reguaring finances should be fielded to a financial aid counselor. Ask about grants too. Dont be discouraged, there are people paid by your school to "advise" you Good luck

Believe in yourself, you'll do great :) :) :) Dont let anyone elses' experience be the deciding factor. Whether things are "easy" or hard depends on many things...professor, your study habits, your organization skills, the quality/rigor of your program. Only you can tell yourself what you can handle. Maybe you could talk to other students in your classes the first day of classes and find out if anyone is doing the same thing as you...if so, a study/support group could be the ticket to making it happen. Depends what kind of student you are, if you can handle the pressure. Seems to me like it would be hard. Im doing my prereqs for BSN. Im not taking summer classes becuase I want to work full time to get some money. What I did was contact my professors for my fall classes already and get the syllabus (a previous semester even) just to get an idea about the course load. Also, I'm studying over the summer, so that by the time I get to my classes this fall, I wont feel pressured to get the good grades necessary to get into nursing school. Medical terminology tho is a lot of memorization, If you can do it on your own, you should. But me, Im have to hear a professor to say all those confusing medical words I have never seen before. Once i hear things, if i read them again, i learn them much faster if i was just reading it on my own. My class is a whole semester long, but meets only once a week. Its defiantley easy to handle. You might overlook it if you have to do micro and A and P 2. Those are some tough classes, but YOU CAN DO IT if you have the motivation :balloons: :balloons: But dont let other peoples experience tell you what to do. Only you know what kind of work you can handle, and what might be pushing it. In anycase, u can always drop out after a week or two if you think its too much work. Even if you delay your enterence into nursing school, its not worth cramming them in and getting an a and a b (risking the fact that you might not get in on those grades, and have to retake the class). If you have to take your time, then who cares. It's not a race, its how you get there :) :) :) Good luck my fellow pre-nursing friend

Are you aware of the fact that nurses have to do a lot of "gross" stuff as u said - smell things to check for a distinguhed odor, put suppositories in peoples rectums, and do PLENTY of things that are "not for the faint hearted" as someone put it. But dont forget, this is why you learn STANDARD PRECAUTIONS. Wash hands, wear gloves, etc. Gloves are your best friend! CNAS do a lot of the dirty work, but to me, if you cant look past all the blood, guts, and gore...u might want to evaluate why are you going into nursing??? By nature, we look after SICK people. Sick people dont come in pretty packaging. Did you know that when they didnt have all this high-tech stuff, doctors and nurses use to TASTE people's urine to check to see if it tasted sweet (diabetes test)? We have it good! Maybe read on up some of the heros/heroines in our profession, and see that its not so bad, becuase its for a good cause. :balloons:

You could also look into taking a Nursing assitant class (takes about 4 weeks to do at your local community college, plus one week clinicals). Its kinda a pain to have to go through the class time, but u make 10 bucks an hour (here in MN -starting pay), and it looks great on your nursing resume. Even if you did it just over the summer, then on the weekends during school. Most places are desperate for the help, and you dont always have to do the nursing home scene. Most places will even refund your tuition if its a medicare-medicaid facility. Shop around, its defiantley worth looking into. I know I am so glad that I took the course, and am working as a CNA (im prenursing)...I cant even imagine walking into my clinicals having no beside experience. PLUS I have to deal with so many different types of people...not everyone is extremly appreciative of your hard work as a nurse/nursing assitant. You learn how to deal with the crabby/demanding/extremly over-protective. And you learn where u have to draw the line. Im not so sure you would get this experience just volunteering, since u arent being paid, people know they cant walk over you. When you're staff, its a different story. What does everyone know about getting a job at Mayo clinic as a new grad or doing the internship? I guess im just wondering since its world-renouned...do the resumes/transcripts have to be equaly as astounding? Thanks :balloons:

Okay, I'm gonna try to put this nicely...but I think you could maybe re-examine why you want to go into nursing. I think too many people are going into nursing for the "job security". You will "make a difference" if u go into nursing, but there are many ways that you can influence society...it doesnt have to be healthare related!!! Start by volunteering (your local news website should have a listing online of volunteer oportunities, or contact your school)/ Or maybe look at Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, etc where u wont have to deal with peoples' bodily fluids. I hate to break it to you, but its REALITY. People puke, get diarrahea, and pee all over themselves sometimes. They dont do it on purpose! God made us this way, and we're beautiful no matter what.I hope you are able to overcome this dilemma. :redbeathe

Do you have a bachelors or associates? Where did you go to school? I'd be interested to know how things are working out. I'm from the cities, and juat embarking on my nursing school journey (still doin prereqs).

Do u have a ADN or Bachelors???? I know many people who are getting jobs is Wisco but they have bachelors from UW oshkosh, and they also got sign-on bonuses. I think it all depends on education. What type of education do you have?
