I participated in a critical care intership which offered 3 months of c.c. training. We had classes coordinated with working on the floor. Many hospitals offers these types of programs. I participated in one in TX. It takes the right fit for that person to succeed. I worked vey hard to absorb every experience and learn as much as possible. I performed rotations in NICU and CVICU. When the intership was over there was a position in CVICU and the offered it to me. It was challenging learn basic RN skills as well caring for cardiovascular surgeries. The nurses in the unit expect allot from you (as they should) and they cut you no slack. It made me a better nurse but it was not easy. If you get this type of opportunity I recommend you work the day shift and not night but cause you experience and see more to shaping your basic RN skills as well as your c.c. skills. If you need any advice feel free to contact me. I've been there and done that. Good luck!
  2. After grad I participated in a critcal care intership - 3 months for a 2 yr commitment. Great experience if you want to learn critical care. I wanted CVICU and ended up with a position. Was difficult learning how to nurse as well as how to provided C.C. But if your a go-getter and live to learn I highly recommended it. The down fall to the contract is you generally get locked into the rate of pay you hirer on at. So, after 1 yr new grad's were making more then I. The up side you learn so much. Pay eventual became competitive. Good-luck!
  3. Hey ya - thought about St. Cloud seriously. Even went as far as to find daycare there. But them remembered it snows here - I hear allot - with ice and everything (just being silly). The road construction between here and there is mind numbing. I decided it was not a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion. What type of facility do you work at? I had a job break threw today. I have been interviewing for ortho/sports med clinical site manager and received the job today. Way different then what I have been doing but it has potential. Management always looks good on the ole resume. Hope the doc's rock. I miss my cardiovascular surgeons. Boo-hoo! Your right about no weekends and no holidays - who knew they existed working the hospital scene. We will see. Burrrrrrrrr it is really cold - snow flurries for fri night - I guess winter is here. So where to go and what to do in the cities? We go frequently but have a hard time finding anything other than MOA. Any tips or favorites? Take it easy.
  4. Hello - great to hear from someone. Appreciate the welcome. SO. Spazzy nurse are you a part of a unionized hospital? What are the very good things? I'm not farmilar with the union thang. I'm a CVICU nurse - missing it terribly. There was not one RN position available when I first moved here - I was a little shocked. The hospital here does not do cardiovascular surgery. Thought about telemetry but there are no jobs. Then I found out about the rotating shifts and now hospitals are out of the question. Husband is on call and we have a little one. Do you all like rotating shifts? If had a union leader that would be the first thing I would change. Again I encourage MN nurses to make some noise - I want to have a better understanding of MN nursing. Have a great one! BURRRRRRRRRR it's cold!
  5. Thanks for your help. I viewed this site but did not even see this. Much appreciated. I'm in West Central Mn as well. New to the area - approx 2 months. I'm getting ready for the cold. Have a good one!
  6. In need of CEU's. Where do you find yours? What is MNB policies? Read their sight but was not too clear. When I received my MN licsense they stated I needed 24 hrs but did not specify if they had to be so many live or if I could do all on line. Any help would be appreciated.
  7. R U in Ft. Worth? If so I use to work at Plaza Medical in FTW. We contracted a PICC line service. The RN who owned the company had a couple of employees and more business then she could handle. Let me know if you want more info. I can't remember her co. name off the top of my head but could probably get it for you if your interested and in the area.

  9. Hey, you all how are the nurses of MN doing? I'm new to this area but have posted on here a couple of times. I've noticed the MN forum is pretty quite? Just thought I'ld post this to encourage all the MN nurses to tell me about MN nursing, themselves, ande MN in general. Just moved up from TX and am loving the awesome fall. The cold kinda scares me but "I WILL SURVIVE". Still looking for a job but am keeping it positive. What do you all think about the union - good, bad, or ugly? Hope this stirs the need to type and tell me how the hell you all are doing out there. Take care and hope to hear from ya!

  11. 3 1/2 yr background in CVICU. Looking into a cardiac rehab coordinator position. Wondering what this type of position pays? Would like to be informed if I get the chance to negotiate for the job. If anyone is the coordinator for a cardiac rehab program could you tell me about your job, what you like about it, and what you do not like? I always loved the teaching I did in CVICU and thought I can translate that passion into this type of job. Any info on cadiac rehab would be helpful. Thanks and have a great day!

  13. I am interviewing for a ortho/sports med clinic manager position and am wondering what kind of salary I should expect. They won't discuss money with me until the job is offered. My background is CVICU. I know what hospital pay is but am unsure for this type of position. I would like to be able to have some negatition strategy. The job is in MN if that is helpful. Thanks!
  14. Welcome to nursing! It will eventually get easier. I'm a 3 yr RN. Started in CVICU. I'm very detail oriented, so patient care came first and paperwork last. Eventually you learn to prioritize and time manage. Once you get it down it is very rewarding. It is important to find a mentor and ask many questions. They can often lead you to working smarter not harder. The benefit of day shift is you learn and deal with things that nights do not. Plus you don't wack out your bodies natural time clock. Chin-up it does get better the longer your in practice. Good-luck!
  15. Recently moved from TX - worked CVICU, worked a weekend plan for $34.00 hr. Moved to Willmar, MN and there is one RN position. Wow how did MN avoid the nursing shortage? What is up with rotating shifts? Why would anyone want to flip-flop their life like that? Sorry had to vent! I'm frustrated! I thought once i had that degree I could get a job anywhere. Is MN attempting to unionize? I've read the MN nursing *** web-site and it appears unionization is high priority. I'm just trying to get a feel for what is going on with nursing in this state. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!
