  1. Is it even legal for them to hand out medications like that? It sounds like you were being interfered with.
  2. It's not a "nurse" thing, it's a human thing.

Impetigo! Sounds like a heck of a summer, Al lol. Luckily, if I'm not mistaken, it is only contagious for 48 hours, and can easily be treated with a topical antibiotic. I remember having that as a child. Sounds like your summer isn't going to terribly bad, my friend. Hope all is well, and see you on the flip. Josh
  4. Can I just say that I know you are sad about this situation. I honestly would not take it personal though. I think that he was just probably truly looking for someone that had a lot more experience. I agree that the way that he approached you seemed irregular, though. Please don't feel bad. There are lots of other jobs out there, and I know your going to find a good one. You seem like such a nice person, and I just don't want you to feel bad about this. Keep your head up!! :)
  5. I'm almost hesitant to say this, but I'm thinking males may be considered before females. I may be wrong, but from what I am reading, it's a possibility.
  6. Absolutely insane.
  7. My goodness, you sound just like me. I guess you just gotta go for it, and make it work.
  8. Couldn't you do home health care or some kind of travel/agency. You girls seem like you know what your doing. Besides, isn't it like riding a bike? My thoughts are with you....
  9. O, ok lol.. I thought you were saying that there are some hospitals in Boston that only pay 10 bucks an hour for RNs. I nearly fainted. I'm originally from MA (western part), and I know how expensive it is up there, and I don't even think anyone can even live on that. You would have to literally work overtime every week just to have a roomie in a crappy apartment somewhere. Wshew, I knew it was getting bad on nurses, but that scarred me lol. Thanks for the clarification, Esme
  10. They want a BSN, and they don't wanna pay for it. It's like going to a fine steakhouse and telling the waiter you want the best filet in the place but your not gonna spent more than 5 dollars.
  11. Wait Wait Wait 10......Im sorry, did you say dollars? Or was I reading that wrong?
  12. O , it's ok, I don't mind doing that. I know that after I get out of school, I'm gonna be looking for a job. I can go anywhere in the US, it's not an issue. I just want to start a family one day, and you can't do that without a paycheck, rite?
  13. O dear,, I don't think I would like this experience very well. LOL
  14. This may be an obvious question, but can you make the same money in the rural area hospitals as you would in the big city ones? If not, on average, how much less would be a good estimate? I'm just curious. I actually wouldn't mind living/working in some rural areas. Usually the cost of living is better there anyway. Thanks in advance my friends..
  15. If they cancel your shifts, since your on contract, wouldn't they be obligated legally to still pay you? I'm not sure how it goes, but I would feel like since we have a contract, I'd want to be paid.
  16. I don't look at people with mental illness badly at all. When I worked on the sheriffs office some years ago, we would transport them to the regional mental health facility to get some help. I had coworkers that wanted to put them in handcuffs and leg irons, and I generally refused when they would hand them off to me. I don't want to treat someone who is in need of help like a criminal. Now, if that person were to start getting violent, that would be different. I have always found that if you treat people the way that you want to be treated, you will 9x out of 10, get it the same way. See, just because someone has mental health problems, doesn't mean they are "bad", it just means they need some help. The good thing, most of these problems can be treated with the rite care.
  17. I'm just wondering if it's possible that MOST of the population has some type of mental illness? I've often wondered about this.
  18. I hope you will hire me when I get out of school, cause I'm gonna need a job! :)
  19. My concern is that some nurses aren't trying to be business executives. Some folks just want to nurse people back to health and care for the patients. I can understand not being in management unless you have a BSN, but some people just don't want that. I just wish the hiring managers would get this through their thick skulls.
  20. My gosh! another few years you'll have to be a PA just to take a temperature. It's sickening the way all of this is happening. It's like they are saying ADNs are incompetent. We are not amused.
  21. Well, I certainly hope they can back up that snooty "We don't hire non BSNs" with some extra cash.
  22. My goodness. Chemistry in 6 weeks? What type of college would be that cruel?
  23. Excellent article, big al. I think one of the many things that probably makes you a good nurse at a summer camp is that you have the drive and the passion for it. You mentioned that your talents lie in other places outside of answering phones, talking with certain people etc etc. I'm the total opposite. I'm an extreme extrovert. My fuel comes from others personalities. I do better talking on the phone than I do cleaning up vomit, lol. I have always been that way. This is why I want to be in nursing. With you, you just a pure NURSING MACHINE lol :) At the end of the day, it's guys like you that end up getting the stuff done. Be proud of who you are, Al. I sense your a good person. Stay cool brother.
  24. Why would they act like this? It sounds like someone wanting to punish her for being a "bad little girl" In my mind, if you ask for a day off, your asking because you NEED to be off. I'm not sure I want to work at a place that disrespects the RNs like this. I just want to get out of school, pay my dues for a year or so, and go on to travel. I hope she gets this worked out, though. I don't like people messing with other people's lives.
  25. I've considered doing pediatrics after I graduate. I really want to "save the world" is my problem. I've spent so much of my life being useless, lazy and insignificant, that I feel like I have a lot to make up for. I considered an internship at St. Jude, initially. While thinking about it long and hard one evening after work, I had second thoughts about watching children pass regularly. I'm not sure that I could work somewhere where I had to regularly watch this happen. My heart goes out to all of you that work so hard to take care of the young ones, though. God Bless.
