  1. Hey if I dm'd you my email, would you be willing to send me that email? All I got so far was the IT email about signing up for falconnet/link.
  2. oh gosh ??‍♀️ hopefully I'm not the only one. I'm worried I'm going to miss the deadline. I should have been more proactive LOL. I wasn't sure if they were going to send more information to our emails so I held off.
  3. hi everyone! Did anyone sign up for the one class in Fall? I called and left a message but haven't heard back yet.
  4. OMG I looked at the decision letter and it says it right there ??‍♀️ . I think I got so excited about getting accepted that I missed it. Thank you for taking the time to answer I really appreciate it. I'll give them a call on Monday. Hopefully it's not too late to sign up. See you next year!
  5. Really? Did you receive an email about signing up for classes? I haven't heard from the school since I paid the deposit last year.
  6. Hey! Did you apply for Fall 2024 cohort but got offered a spot for Fall 2025? I did too. Have you heard anything about taking courses?
  7. I haven’t heard anything yet either ?
  8. oh awesome!! I’m glad you are liking it so far!
  9. I got an email about the critical care exam. looks like the last day for exams was 10/19. Have you heard anything else yet?
  10. Did you end up going to La Roche? How are you liking the program so far?? Do you feel adequately supported by the faculty?
  11. Thank you for posting! I missed the deadline but I'm hoping to apply for May 2024. Do you feel like students reach the 2000+ clinical hours required? How are you liking the regional anesthesia training? That is what I am most interested in utilizing in my practice when I graduate so I'm scoping out programs that emphasize it.
  12. Didn't see a thread for the Summer 2023 start date for OHSU. Was wondering if anyone else applied.
  13. Check your local community college and see if they have any periop 101 classes. I'm in an OR internship program and we're following the Periop 101 curriculum and take the AORN final exam after 6 months. Only difference is that we don't pay for the classes. When I was shadowing, I had a chance to speak to the OR clinical educator in a level 1 trauma center hospital in Philadelphia and she would regularly call the local community colleges to set up clinicals for their periop 101 classes and would see it as a 'soft' interview. After you finish that class, you're technically an 'experienced' OR nurse. So maybe that's an option?? I shadowed at 2 hospitals and I think I would have been offered a job easily if I applied for their residency program. Try that too! That way it shows initiative that you're very interested in the career.
  14. I had to retake peds and 12 other of my classmates had to retake peds or advanced med surg. I thought the program could use some work. I wrote this for another poster a while back and the tone is harsh. Can you tell I was a little bitter? Otherwise it wasn't too bad. I feel like you'll hear the same with other nursing programs. I feel sort of indifferent by it. I believe the professors are caring but if you're a person of color, you will have some moments where you just sort of roll your eyes at what either professors say or some of the students say. Most of your classmates will be over the age of 24+ as opposed with the traditional group. A lot of the academic professors are older which can be a little frustrating because there can be a disconnect with theory and clinical. I don't like the fact that Villanova uses ATI instead of Kaplan like Jefferson does. However, Villanova requires only a 73 to pass their courses which is very generous compared to surrounding schools. Villanova's first time nclex pass rate for last year's cohort was at 85% which isn't too bad. I think the class of 2015 and 2016 were the first guinea pigs of a new curriculum and it sucks. Villanova grades you for clinicals and depending on the instructor can make or break your grade. Originally the Dean wanted the CEIs to prevent grade inflation but there's a huge difference if your clinical instructor grades you strictly or in a more relaxed manner. They use a Clinical Evaluation Instrument where 1 = Failing Level: Does not meet course objectives 2 = Basic Level: Meets course objectives 3 =Advance Level: Often exceeds course objectives 4= Superior Level: Consistently exceeds course objectives Let's say you meet all course objectives since this is your first clinical ever so you're not gonna know everything right? That's considered a C. Granted, I haven't gotten a C but it's definitely not unheard of. So I could be breaking my back for my clinical instructor and get an B+/A- while another classmate who has a laissez faire instructor gets an A. For your last semester, you would think your leadership/senior practicum would be the most important right?? WRONG, You only get 60 hours of leadership clinical, 60 hours of health promotion, and 60 hours of HOME HEALTH. Don't get me wrong, I think home health is very important but I don't understand why it isn't part of health promotion? Also we started our leadership (clinical) rotation when health promotion (lecture) started. So when that ended and we started our health promotion clinical and had a final project it was sort of a hectic moment. I personally felt it was poorly organized. Study tips wise, I would study the content and look at test taking strategies for the NCLEX. Do all the questions your textbook provides you for that chapter. And read the questions carefully. I got by fine using the powerpoints and supplementing what I didn't pick up from the lecture with the text book. I felt that I was mostly teaching myself and felt that most lectures were a waste of time. Except for pathophysiology. I wish Dr. Capriotti taught all my classes. I was fortunate to live with my parents during my time at Villanova so I can't really help you there. I would find house to share in either garret hill or bryn mawr or even ardmore. I did have two friends who would commute from the city via train or the NHSL.
  15. Congrats on deciding on Villanova! I just graduated this May. I was part of the alternate sequence group and I believe my second year we had our classes with the bsn express group. I didn't pass a course by 1 point so it took me another year to graduate. Let me know if you have any questions!
  16. Have you accepted any offers by chance?? I'm trying to look for residency programs in the OR but I missed my window of opportunity to apply :/ so I may have to pay for an intro to peri-op to gain experience.
  17. I'm thinking about applying for their October start date in either the NICU or the emergency department. It would be amazing if they offered a position in the PACU. Have you worked or had clinical at evergreenhealth?? I hope you hear back from them real soon!
  18. Hey 07courtney1993! I was wondering if you could please tell me what the hiring process was like? I'm a new grad from outside of Philadelphia and I'm trying to enter the new grad market anywhere in Oregon. Did you apply to a specific specialty by chance? I also checked out Good Samaritan in Corvallis and I feel like they only want rns who went back for their bsns. Peacehealth rn residency program in Bellingham is too far for me. I'm also considering evergreenhealth up in kirkland, washington. I don't think St. Charles in Bend has a residency program. I would appreciate any advice~

I believe the professors are caring but if you're a person of color, you will have some moments where you just sort of roll your eyes at what either professors say or some of the students say. However, you'll be in the alternate sequence group that will eventually join with the BSN express group after your first year. Most of your classmates will be over the age of 24+ as opposed with the traditional group. A lot of the academic professors are older which can be a little frustrating because there can be a disconnect. I don't like the fact that Villanova uses ATI instead of Kaplan like Jefferson does. That's considered a C. Granted, I haven't gotten a C but it's definitely not unheard of. So I could be breaking my back for my clinical instructor and get an A- while another classmate who has a laissez faire instructor gets an A. Let's say you still went to villanova. Also we started our leadership (clincal) rotation when health promotion (lecture) started. So when that ended and we started our health promotion clinical and had a final project it was sort of a hectic moment. I personally felt it was poorly organized. I still got an extern position at Jefferson though in my final year. There were about 6-7 Villanova students out of 10 in the november's orientation group. My advice: Inquire about senior practicums/leadership clinicals, what specialties at what hospital, and how many hours. When you apply for new grad programs, it's very beneficial to apply in the speciality of your senior practicum. Sorry this came off as a vent :x I hope this helps! :edit: ah I didn't realize your post was from 2015! My bad!!
  20. Hi Argo! I'm a new grad from PA and I was wondering if the surgery center is willing to hire new grads? I'm interested in Peri-op and the PACU but my school did not have a senior practicum in the OR. I did mine at the ED of philly's VA hospital. I currently am working as a nurse extern/tech at a major hospital in philly on a med-surg unit and I'm trying to find shadowing experience in the OR. Could you please recommend me a good way to get started in the OR or PACU in Oregon?
  21. Hmm wasn't sure that villanova required a pre-licensure exam. I know that Drexel does it too. Most likely our senior year before we graduate? I know for Drexel, you can't graduate/take the nclex until you pass that exam. Not sure if that is the case for Villanova. Pretty much it's like a practice version of the nclex. It's probably why Villanova has a high passing rate on the nclex. If you can't pass the practice version, you can't take the actual exam.
  22. List of courses that I took before applying: Sciences: Intro to Biology I, Intro to Chemistry I & II both with labs, Anatomy and Physiology I & II both with lab, Nutrition, and Microbiology Math: Pre-Calculus, Introduction to Statistics (I have not take this course yet. Plan to do so in Fall Social Sciences: Intro to Philosophy I & II, World War II History, Intro to Sociology, General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Abnormal Psychology, Intro to World Religions (gotta take this in the fall as well) Liberal Arts: Intro to English Writing I & II (equivalent), Intro to Spanish I & II, and Intro to Piano I My first semester of Freshman year I had a ~3.3 gpa coming from a private, liberal arts school. But I transferred to a community college and from then to now as an incoming first semester junior, I have a 3.56-3.67 gpa. I can't remember. I thought my personal statement was professional but still conveyed who I am as a person and what I wanted to learn from Villanova. I also volunteered at a close by hospital. Good luck, EGM1!! Let me know if you have any more questions. :)
