Relocating to South Florida from NYC
A 2 bed in the city of Boston or NYC is 2500-4k all day. That's a base price. In nice areas, upper end neighborhoods, if you have to ask the price you shouldn't be looking there. Those prices make 4k look like chump change. Not kidding. Avalon in Cambridge being built is going start price at 4700 for a one bed 700sqft unit. Some 2 bed units top 9k. I live 20 mins outside the city limits, and my rent tops 1850 for a 1 bed. That's not a bad price for Massachusetts, and that's an hour commute to the city in the AM. I was about to relocate to Florida, the cost of living is exponentially less, I assure you. It's all artificially inflated prices due to absurd tax policy. Regardless, MA is no picnic, NYC is worse. The rest of the country has no idea how good they have it

Nurse brutally beaten in a Brooklyn Hospital
I was actually using the words "old woman" because I wanted to stress just how dire the situation was. Anyone over 65 in a physical confrontation is a recipe for disaster, and I was stressing just how awful the situation was. Stop trying to twist what I say for personal attacks that are unsubstantiated.

And the over 2,000,000 times per hear that guns are used to stop crimes by average citizens? (That's a real number per FBI database, look it up for yourself, inconvenient truth for antis). Rapes, attempted murder, assaults, robbery....just write them all off so you feel better about the infinitely rare instance of an accident?

So you're not familiar with the real stats behind my opinion are you? Actual numbers, not emotions and knee jerk assumptions based on nothing but fear and misinformation

Nurse brutally beaten in a Brooklyn Hospital
I'm just stressing the importance of armed individuals in hospital settings. This incident was stopped, thankfully, but next time someone might not be as fortunate. I feel as though this is a perfect time to address a serious concern at hospitals, being the complete lack of adequate security. Signs and private security armed with flashlights simply do not suffice in any shape or form. In my opinion, it's gross negligence on part of the administration, and puts people in danger every single day. I couldn't think of a more appropriate time to bring this up.

I didn't use it as a soapbox, you're twisting my intention to demonize me and my opinion, failed on that. As for radical, you need to do some reading. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but 88,000,000 Americans disagree with you, and as of late, that number is increasing exponentially, especially in my generation of under 30s. The radical anti gun crowd is dwindling, phasing out, and becoming largely irrelevant politically.

Fired for refusing??
Education and life experience has no bearing on someone's ability to question authority. It's even worse if they have said life experience, and chose not to utilize it. I have a finance background, went to Suffolk. This is a second career choice. Lost interest in finance. Currently enrolled in an accelerated BSN program. I planned on completing this, and proceeding onto the path of CRNA, however I'm having second thoughts and heavily weighing the option of med school. Something I probably could have pursued right out of the box, however I would like to see this thru regardless as I'm not 100% sold on one direction or the other. Time and finances weighs heavily on the decision, as I'm 28, certainly not getting younger, and the idea of 200K in loans (on top of what I currently have) is a bit daunting to say the least. A few things currently in the works could change that, but as of right now I'm assuming worst case, as we all know...have a plan A, B, C, and D. As for the FDA, we could always start with Avandia. The list of their gross negligence is virtually endless, but this one is fresh. As for the CDC, well you're talking about an agency with a blank check, that classifies gun ownership as a public health concern...shining examples of human logic. For these guys, let's start with the OIG investigations. Matter of public record, certainly not conspiracy theory.

Thankfully, he's going to prison. Unfortunately, our prison system is backwards, and he will more than likely slip thru the cracks, being that he's a "victim of circumstance" of the "disease" known as drug abuse. And, how am I a ridiculous human being? Stating the obvious and logical response to a violent person doesn't make me ridiculous. If someone came into your facility with a knife, gun, etc....what would you like to see happen? A few people respond in kind with equal force, or would you rather risk the well being of yourself, colleagues, and patients? Let's face it, when you're staring down imminent danger to your life, you're essentially helpless unless you have the means to meet the danger with equal force. 911 doesn't offer a magical shield. Neither does the law. I don't understand how people are so comfortable with trusting their lives to signs that read "violence free workplace".

Disrespectful? Really? Where did you come up with this conclusion? Okay...so, you'd rather nobody stop the incident? Supposedly it was the other way around, said maniac has a gun. Are you going to stop this individual with harsh language and prey he decides to lock himself in the bathroom for fear of a vicious tongue lashing?

Judged by 12, or carried by 6. Won't matter if you have a job or face charges if you're not around anymore. I'd rather be breathing and pleading self defense than dead. IMO, concealed means concealed. What they don't know won't hurt them, and it could save your life someday.

How do we support our mentally ill
Deinstitutionalization was a huge blow. They made mistakes, but were in their early stages. If they turned it around, brought back facilities, we would be heading in the right direction again. We simply don't have coverage or resources.

Lifestyle Discrimination
Live and let live. If you're not hurting anyone else, I don't see how your lifestyle has any relevance. That being said, I so believe private entities should be able to hire/fire as they please. Private market has a way of sorting itself out.

Law doesn't protect us. It's an illusion of safety, nothing more. The implied notion that all people follow laws. Criminals do not, making them criminals. Laws are invisible suggestions that protect you as much as air. They don't stop people. I'm sure there were violence free workplace signs everywhere as well. Seemed to work well. I know laws are for prosecution, and you cannot legislate human behavior, otherwise this incident would have been impossible. Unfortunately, this old woman found out just how effective laws are at stopping crime. Someone without regard for the law will not follow it because of consequence. Consequences are a inconvenience for such people, a looming threat that May or may not effect them. I've never relied on law to protect me, because when you need protection, law does nothing of the sort. It gives a family peace of mind if a criminal is prosecuted, but it did not prevent this woman from finding herself in this dire situation. What's the saying, when seconds count, police are 7 - 23 minutes away. I hope for the best, and it's disgusting that a floor full of people didn't take it upon themselves to stop this guy.

I'm fine with open carry too. I think it's completely relevant. Nobody was armed, nobody defended the old woman. If people were Armed, I dare say it would have ended much sooner.

Damn those pesky numbers and facts, those fantasy 2,000,000+ people that stopped an assault/rape/home invasion. Let's not pay attention to facts, emotion only is the name of the game right? You did read that I shoot 3-gun right? Look it up. YouTube it. Let me know how inept we are lol. I'm more than confident. I get more trigger time per week than most cops get in a career. Ps, Dirty Harry was a hack on a good day. But hey, better off not defending yourself and taking the whole death risk than potentially defending yourself and others, meanwhile facing the same risk... Me, I'll take my chances at owning my own destiny. One question for you, have you ever been in a house fire?

Nurse brutally beaten in a Brooklyn Hospital
Yeah, why not. And how exactly would he have taken it? While he was being plugged, or after? If someone tries to grab your gun, you create some distance with weak off hand, you pull the trigger with the other tucked. After shot one, raise to chest with two hand positive retention grip (thumbs forward), weaver or dynamic stance depending on balance, back up creating more distance, and center mass follow ups until the problem is no longer a problem. This isn't some mystical technique, it works every single day. 2 million times per year, a gun is used for self defense (that doesn't mean shot, that doesn't mean death, that could mean being drawn or present) This is per FBI crime database which is a compilation of every police report in the country. Whenever a crime was stopped, and a gun was used/drawn/"there", it is reported to said database. Don't bother contesting that number, as you'll look silly and I'll just provide the link, adding salt to the wound. I'm a pro 2A guy, and I know way too much on the numbers and legal end of this for my own good. My experience? Gun owner and 3-gun shooter for 8 years. You're from Chicago, so it's understandable if your experience is limited to what the tv tells you about south side. The ignorance concerning firearms over there runs deep. No fault of your own, just lack of positive exposure. Trust me though, two JHPs to the CNS "T", and nobody is grabbing anything.

Keep in mind though, this is NYC we are talking about, self help is discouraged and people lose their jobs for the such. Texas, on the other hand, I'd take a gander and say that said attacker wouldn't be long for the world. Can't say it would be a loss, attacking an old lady warrants whatever force is necessary IMO.

What do you think can be done to improve access to mental health care?
Deinstitutionalization was an enormous loss to this country. The practices were...less than ideal for quite some time. A reestablishment of it would be a great improvement. The stigma and complete ignorance surrounding mental health/diagnosis/disorders and varying degrees/etc in this country is absolutely astounding. Everything is painted with a broad brush, and people are scared to come forward because people In general are largely ignorant to the actual illness. Bipolar, for instance, is as broadly brushed as depression, yet a person with bipolar II (regarded by the educated as a mild mood disorder) is lumped in by the masses with the likes of violent bipolar I patients, thus chasing people that otherwise could receive help to the hills for fear of being looked at as though they were Adam Lanza. Ignorance is the biggest enemy of all, and we perpetuate it daily by not corrected the root problem.

Fired for refusing??
Well, which would you like me to address first? The list of FDA blunders, CDC failures, the members of each that have served on boards of big pharm businesses, etc? Doesn't take much to find hundreds of fed failures that previously were commended and pushed by individuals such as yourself, again, accepting what is told to them because they are gov and here to help us. As for age, where did I say anything pertaining to education? I was implying that the older generations are, by in large, complacent, rarely questioning anything presented to them by a higher power, be that hospital admin or gov. As I stated, typically someone's voting record is a reflection of the such. I'm currently on my phone, but I have a plethora of links at my house to back up my statements concerning your beloved and omnipotent fed organizations.

Another tattoo Discussion
I'm covered, sleeves...no neck and hands though, nothing that can't be covered by a suit or business attire of the such. I believe the under 35 crowd is largely color blind, Not phased by tattoos, race, etc. I must say, the stigma still runs deep in the older generations. I'll take a gander and say in 10 years the stigma will have long gone the way of the dodo.

It is awful. The assumption of safety anywhere is nothing more than an illusion. "Violence free workspace", "gun free zone", "safe zone", all just suggestions....hollow words that fall on deaf ears when someone is fixing for violence.

MSN to Medical School
My intended route is also BSN to med. Spoke to BU med admissions, apparently it's not as uncommon as one would think.
