Mistake
Marie, I too have made a mistake. I have not forgiven myself either. I have been going to counseling and am receiving medical care. I have not gone back to bedside nursing and do not think I ever will. This has changed my life. The mistake, my mental and physical state, the help I did not receive prior to when asked for help, the lack of support from coworkers and administration, the list goes on... The entire situation was horrible. As if the mistake wasn't bad enough, my coworkers and employer made it even worse for me. I appreciate your post. I've been looking for support groups of other healthcare givers that can relate. I have yet to find one. Just know you are not alone. ?

Is this normal orientation for ICU??
I was told to speed up a lot as well. I remember another nurse comment that I was "turtle slow" [emoji34].

Does nursing really suck that badly?
I graduated as an RN Sept. 2012. You have to remember with any job there are things to complain about and not like. In nursing, there are so many different areas that you can work in. If there is an area you don't like then you can look in another area. You can also specialize in an area of your interest or travel. I have worked 2 different jobs as a nurse so far. First was a nursing home. It was not for me. (no breaks, long hours, demanding, short-staffed, memory care area, not enough supplies...) I did enjoy my coworkers and most of my patients. Who knows I may like it later in my career. I now work at an urgent care and I like it. I think that we like to vent to others in our field and here is a great place to do it. Sometimes we forget to mention the good with the bad. Overall I personally love being an RN. There are certain situations that I wish wouldn't occur, but to me the good far out weighs the bad. Use your best judgement. If your heart tells you to do it then try it. Never hurts to try and then you won't look back and say 'what if'. Also, research the many possiblities in nursing. (teaching, mentor, admin, floor, inhome, hosp, labs, dr office, imaging, research...) Good luck!

Stethoscope
I have a Littman Master Cardio III that I like it works great. I am looking to sell it just because I prefer a longer tubing and different color. I got it off EBay over a year ago.

what type of watch do you prefer?
I've been thinking about purchasing a watch that goes on my stethoscope. Not sure yet. I've used an adidas wrist watch from JCPennys that was on sale for a couple years now and works great. Nothing fancy or expensive is my advise. If you do wear a wrist watch you will probably want to replace it every so often any way due to cleanliness. There is only so much cleaning you can do. ;-)

Reliable website to buy stethoscopes from?

Future Career Advice, please help!!
Can you do both? I am taking online RNBSN courses at IWU. I know a couple of my classmates travel and take one course at a time as well. Just a thought. I lean towards school now travel later, but I can see it both ways. My opinion, it depends on what you want in life. Kids, family, settle-down then travel now. Unknown then you could go either way.

Which to pursue? RN-BSN or RN-MSN?
I am currently working on my RNBSN. I plan on continuing to my MSN and NP. I'm not sure which way is better. I feel like I am taking the long expensive route, but so far I am enjoying it.
