  1. I am starting nursing school very soon and will have to purchase DOVE brand scrubs in "wine" color. I am told they are very expensive and I am required to purchase them at orientation, which is a few days before classes start. I am wondering if there is a cheaper brand whose shade of "wine" and fabric is a close match so I can stock up without spending tons of money. I really want to get pants before orientation so I have time to get them altered if necessary since I am not very tall and length is usually a problem. Thanks so much!
  2. Hi, I am currently starting a BSN program in January with the ultimate goal of becoming an NP. I live in California and am wondering what the process here is? Do I get my MSN, and then apply to an NP program? What is the average length of time and will I be able to work as nurse while I go to school? Any info, thoughts or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
  3. I'm starting my nursing program in January...Yay! Getting all my supplies and things like that. I was thinking of getting a lapel clip on watch. I don't really like things on my wrist, and it seems kind of like a germ catcher too. So, just wondering what everybody thinks about watches?
  4. I study in all the usual spots too, especially when I'm studying with others. However, I do my best studying when I stick to routine, same place, same snack etc. But, I also have made my car a study spot. I get to class about an hour early and study in the car. Works for me.
  5. Hi, this will end up being a great experience for you. I have studied ASL and Deaf culture and I can you that there are some things you can do to ease their fears and communicate more effectively. It is very frightening and stressful for a deaf person to be in a medical situation. The first thing that you need to do is maintain constant eye contact. Writing notes is also good, Deaf people are used to it. Also, be prepared to mime or act out certain things. You may feel silly but it is common practice and will be appreciated. Learning some signs is great too, there is a great website called signingsavvy.com that will help you with that. Don't assume that they can read lips, some can and some can't. Just treat them with compassion and kindness and do your best, you will both come out of it feeling great! Good Luck :-)
  6. Hi, I have been driving an hour each way for my pre-reqs and it has never been a problem. You just fit it into your routine and make it work. I have actually learned to enjoy the alone time! Do what you think works best for you, remember to consider wear and tear on your car and gas prices too. Good luck.
  7. Thank you!
  8. Hi, I just got accepted to a BSN program and I am very excited! Just wondering what immunizations you all were required to have before starting?
  9. I just found out yesterday, I'm in too! The fun begins in January, I'm so excited! Congrats to everyone!
  10. Hi, I know this is an old post but, has anyone applied to, or been accepted to APU's two plus two? I just sent my application online and I'm wondering how long it takes to hear something. I feel like my essay was good, I also have two letters of recommendation from my micro and physiology professors and my GPA is 3.5. I received A's in micro, anatomy and physio. I can barely stand It, wondering if it's enough! I really want to be accepted for the January cohort!
  11. Hi, I am finally finishing my pre-reqs and applying to nursing school for my BSN, yay! I have to write a 200-500 word essay that must include my professional nursing goals, including my definition of nursing and concept of career opportunities. Needless to say, there's a lot riding on this essay and it has to be a stand out. Just wondering what any current students did that made their essay stand out. For those who have read essays, was there something in particular you were looking for? Thanks so much.
