  1. Hey there! I am on the South Shore, but I go to school at Anna Maria College in Worcester.
  2. Fantastic idea! how should I go about finding a midwife? Haha- I feel silly with how much I don't know!
  3. Hi there Heading into my Junior year of nursing school. I am ready to get into a hospital and become familiar, but I can't become a CNA (you need 2 semesters of clinicals in order to not have to take the CNA course if you're a nursing student in Massachusetts) I would love to be able to see inside the maternity ward and see how the in's & out's work prior to clinicals (We do maternity senior year) and I'm not sure how to do it. No places in my area allow for internships/externships. Any other advice for getting experience? I don't know any nurses I could shadow. If I could I would sit in a hospital hallway & just watch & learn- I am fascinated at how much I don't know yet. But they tend to frown on that type of thing!
  4. Good Habits- Making time to talk to strangers ( I learned this during my first semester of clinicals) I tend to be more open to talk to a lot of people, and I like to think it makes a difference! Note-taking and studying- must have good habit in nursing school, but I have definitely improved! Bad Habits- SLEEPING. I hardly ever sleep at night. I have a very difficult time (actually, it's impossible) sleeping if I do not think I am fully prepared for the next day (test, quiz, clinical) the whole "Ill study later" thing doesnt work for me. BUT. I nap like it is my job, 3 or 4 hour naps during the school year in between work and classes. And eating- I definitely am not the healthiest person in the world. I went from 135- 170lbs my freshman year because of stress eating My suggestion is try taking up exercise as a hobby! Zumba is a great way to take your mind off school, let a little steam out, have a little fun & burn off that mcdonalds you grabbed last week after clinicals
  5. I agree- I would take the Home Health care. 3 Large hospitals ? There's a good chance for a possible Med-Surg position! And if you are serious about MNP then I would think that would be the best for you. I know a few nursing students at my school who work at Divita Dialysis in Worcester- and they like the job- but there isn't much room for advancing.
  6. My school is extremely strict on uniformity at clinicals- we totally get lined up. They go by once to make sure you have black non-slip waterproof shoes with a back (no clogs)- then again for hair, again for nails, again for uniform jacket, scrub top, pants, hands, piercings, tattoos showing?, black socks, etc. And yes, your professor will pull you aside if you have pantie lines.
  7. Trust me... Welcome to my life of nursing school... All I hear is other students practically attacking my Patho professor. And EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. she takes those questions off. If you got them wrong GREAT - your grade goes up. But if you are like me (and actually did nothing but study over your spring break) and you got it right, your grade stays the same as if the question didn't exist. There is also a whole lot of favoritism in my nursing classes as well.
  8. Hey there! Just finished up AP2 & Patho! I would suggest (if you can manage it) taking them at the same time. That is what I did, and it help bundles because one class constantly reinforced the other. I took Micro as my first class, so I wouldn't necessarily say I used a lot of it in Patho. Best of luck!
  9. At my nursing school we have to take a spanish class every semester for the first two years! Good luck!
  10. I completely agree with you- though I am only in my second year of nursing school, mine is the same exact way.
  11. Hi All! I am going into my junior year of nursing school - all is well, finished my first clinical rotation at a rehab. I live in the Boston area, so I am attempting to get my feet wet before I graduate. I am starting to get concerned because I have very little experience in hospitals and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/advice/experiences of some sort to become more familiar with a specialty or a certain floor? As of right now, I would like to go into L&D nursing, or OB nursing- but I feel like without being familiar with the field, there would be no way for me to know what I like and don't like. And senior year clinical seems like it's cutting it close? What did you do for work/internships during nursing school?
  12. Basically it means on the other side of the bridge! (Not sure if she is referring to the Sagamore or Bourne Bridge, but you basically need those to get to the little arm part of Mass! :) Gotta love Cape Cod ♥

Same here- Pediatric first, Ob second, after that I think I'll take what I can get!
  14. You are totally where I would love to be!! I am a little nervous for Peds. I heard it can be upsetting on some days. Im still in Nursing school but best of luck & congrats! :)
