Thanks! I've decided that i'll just stretch my sciences through the full fall semester and just apply in the spring for the NEXT fall semester. I realized that it would be easier for me to finish all of my other classes before i begin the program, so i can just focus on nursing.

So, in order to apply for the nursing program and start it in the spring, I have to have all three of my sciences (A&P I & A&P II & Micro) completed by october 15th ! So im thinking of taking A&P I during thr summer, then take A&P II in a flex program. ( thats what our school calls the half semester program.) It would allow me to meet the october 15th deadline, but do you think the course load would be too much? Would that be a really heavy courseload?

Also, the nurse/pt ratio is generally 4:1 with about 2 CNA's .(In the ED)

I believe the VA is a horrible system to begin with. It's a government job, with nearly everyone protected by the union and many nurses know that they cannot be fired and are very lazy, putting much work on the new nurses and Especially the LPN's ! They pay based on education and experience, plus locality pay based on your location so the pay can vary very much! I dont want to scare you away from the VA, but if you have other options, you should probably take those.

Well I also volunteer at my local ER while im in school and I shadow many different nurses and it really just sepends on the nurse. Some will be mean and not teach you because they dont respect you as a volunteer, and some will be happy to let you assist in certain minor procedures and teach you! It also depends on the hospitals policies. (Like if you are allowed to do anything invasive, or do anything at all)

Hey! It sucks that nobody has replied until now! But im a pre nursing student at southwest right now and it's actually pretty good!ive decided to stay at southwest and go through their nursing program, but before them I went to sit in on a few nursing foundations classes at baptist, southwest, and the U of M. I also currently volunteer at the med and the VAMC emergency departments and theese schools often come to us for their clinical rotations. Ive seen firsthand many different aspects of theese schools and I would personally say Baptist is the best! (Not to mention their payment program!) I'm only at southwest because I do not think I would like to be tied down to baptist for 4 years after graduation. However, if youre looking for cheap schooling, southwest is the place!

I say you should just do your job to the besy of your ability. I'm going to sound like an ******* when I say this, but if the patient has that much of an issue that he can't let you do your job, to hell with the patient then! In my opinion, there is no way to professionally handle a gay/straight (nurse/patient) situation. Im sure onebof your future colleagues will be happy to switch patients with you! (:

In about 5 months im starting my pre-reqs during a summer semester at Southwest Community College. (Memphis, TN) I would like to start the nursing program in the spring semster if I can finish all of my pre-reqs by the end of the fall semester. I need to take A&P I & A&P II, Microbiology, general psychology, and English 1010 I believe. I've been told by a few of the nursing students that our school's nursing program refers heavily to my A&P I & II, as well as microbioligy grades. So can anyone please help me out with scheduling theese? My plan was to do english, psych, and micro during the summrer, and focus the entire fall semester on A&P I & II but im not so aure this is the right course of actions.. help pleas!!
