No, it's not that hard to get into, but it is a tough program. The 2nd degree program is easier than the regular oneto get into. My class had about 25, but it varies each year based on new students. They are very serious about application deadlines, so if you want to start in the fall, you have to apply by the end of this month. their big weeding out process is the prereqs. If you already have a degree, try Ball State. I graduated from their 2nd degree program last May

I am a new grad that is on a unit that is trialing hourly rounding by CNAs. I am finding that they tell the CNA that everything is great, and then call me, even for water....

Thank you, nfahren, you are 100% right. I KNOW it will help me a lot in nursing (ie:dealing with families, referals to other agencies and I already know how to document my butt off, let alone the fact that I had to deal with OT, PT , and ST on a daily basis). That's the important stuff, not an extra .50 per hour!

That's what I thought, but I guess that I was holding out hope that since my experience was in social services, instead of finance or something, that it might do SOMETHING. Oh well!!!!

I have a question. I know that typically prior degrees don't mean anything and that new grad rates are new grad rates. However, I have a BS in sociology and have 5+ years of experience in social services. Does this give me the potential to make anymore (even loose change!) than other members of my class? Does anyone know? I have a career fair tomorrow and supposedly they will be doing onsite interviews, so I'd like to be prepared. Thank you!!!

I will be in the same situation in May when I graduate. I think nights would work best due to kids schedules.... Their dad lives four miles away, so he will watch them two nights... my plan is to find nursing student or elem ed college students to sit for the one night.

Yep, sorry. I was in preconference 1 minute late one time, and was told that one more day and I'd get an unsatisfactory (two satisfactories and you're out). Also, they don't care about weather, traffic, ect. Nursing is HARDCORE!!!

I don't know what to tell you. I am just a student, but... I look at the ads all the time and I think you're assessment is correct. I have done clinicals in indianapolis and there aren't LPNs on the floor, however in the the outlying areas there are (again from clinical experience). Lastly, what about correctional nursing? From previous posts, there seems to be a need, and the pay is ok....

I am in BSU's second degree fast track program. I have a friend that is in the 3 yr. program. It is HARD. They are STRICT. But, their NCLEX pass rate is one of the best in the state and I honestly believe that I'm learning a lot. I would (and have) recommend BSU nursing program to anyone. Good luck! Dawn

Sorry, don't really know, but I'd NEVER take the school's word for it. EVER. You need to do more research. I would go to the websites that do the accrediting and see what they have to say. Let us know what happens.

I am a senior nursing student. I have been in your typical clinical settings (nursing homes, all types of hospital adult care, surgery, home health, psych..) and am now on a Peds floor. I cannot TELL you what a difference there is in the staff. They are SO good natured. They take breaks, lunch and even get to check an occasional email. However, the biggest difference is that they know their pts and spend time with them. They answer questions, rub shoulders, explain proceedures. My first day there, I was too busy finding my way around in a new hospital and new equipment to really put my finger on it. Was it just the difference in working with kids? Then today, it clicked. Ratios. These RNs were taking 3 pts a piece. One CNA, no LPNs, and of course, many parents do hygiene care for the kids. This is not a ICU Peds floor, mostly gastro and ortho. Wow, is all I can say. They actually get to do pt care. Is this the only area left in nursing in which nurses have time to do this? I never realized how stressed, busy,and sometimes unhappy nurses can be until I saw it NOT happening. This is my second degree, so I've already been in the "real world". Why do nurses NOT get time to spend time with their pts (or get to pee!), when I used to play solitare while on conference calls in my other profession for hours a week. Health is So much more important. So, ARE there other areas in nursing in which you can give true pt care?

I'm will graduate in May and left a message on the recruiter's voicemail, trying to get a little info, as I live in Noblesville. That was two weeks ago and no one ever called me back. Hhhmmm, and they wonder why so many nurses go to work in Indianapolis....

I'm glad to hear so many enjoy nights. I will graduate in May with my BSN, have two kids and think nights would be best so that I can be a part of their lives. Also, seems to me (and confirmed by your posts) that there is SOOOOO much BS on days. I do, however have a quick question. For night shift, are weekends considered Fri night and Sat night or Sat and Sun night (actually Monday) ??? Thanks!!!

I am in my last year of Ball State's fast track BSN program and love it. I have two classmates that went to Purdue for their first degree, but didn't go there for the fast track BSN, and I can't remember why. I'll see them again when classes start on the 21st. Do you want me to ask?

Ummm, I don't think anyone said anything about 9-15 for an RN (except the one). In addition, a lot of these posts were last year and even the year before that.

I'm still a student, so can't tell you anything about the hospitals, except that there are many. The biggest is http://www.clarian.org (it has at least 4 hospitals), I think community's site is ecommunity.com. There is also St. vincent's hosptial, St. francis, and wishard. They main newsparer is http://www.indystar.com, if you want to look at employment ads. I live in a north suburb and love it, however there is a lot to be be said for the south suburbs as well (Greenwood, center grove, ect). A good housing site for the indianapolis area is http://www.mibor.com, it lists current homes for sale in the area and some rentals. I hope this helps! Dawn
