Hello everyone, I am working on a caremap for a young women who just had a lady partsl birth. I need to include diagnoses that include the families strengths? I was thinking of using effective breast feeding r/t infants weight gain Would my goal/outcomes be : mother able to pick up on infants cues when hungry, decreased nipple soreness could be a sign of proper attachment to nipple. Mom states "it is going well" with a confident smile. I wouldn't have any interventions or evaluations right? I feel like I'm missing something. I'm not use to having patients that are doing this well. If someone could shed some light on this for me I'd appreciate it! Also if you could think of any "positive: ND I'd appreciate it. Thank you! Hi everyone, I am required to have two home visits with one patient this semester. My patient is a 56 year old women with three previous incidences of CSF leak through her sphenoid sinus and subsequently out her nose. She has had three surgeries. The cause possibly structurally but nor definitive cause. She is over weight and has diabates. On our first visit we assessed her nutritional intake medication knowledge, did a functional health history, helped her develop a list of questions for her doctors,and encouraged her to start a walking program with her neighbors. She is ready to move on with her life and isn't thrilled at the idea of students coming over again. I feel like she is trying to move forward with her life and my coming over is a reminder of what she has been through. With that said I am completely at a loss over what we could possibly teach her. I was thinking of reviewing her meds with her but she says she has been on them for years and dosn't need any information on them. I have to go over her house on tuesday and could use some ideas on what I could possibly help her with. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Elizabeth

OK the first thing I would do would be to relax and start gathering information and talking to the schools you are interested in. Have an prerequisites changed? Is there a waiting list for any programs? Second I would make a pros and conc list for each of the programs and see what you come up with. I wouldn't reccomend any medical field unless your heart is really in it other wise it will just drain you. I wish you the best of luck.

When you say the "past" how long ago were these classes you took? At my school you can apply for academic renewal after five years and have those bad grades erased. Just a thought. See an advisor they can be very helpful. Elizabeth

I don't disagree with you. There are many concerns. I would hope she'd have all the "details" worked out before she decided on invitro. Hopefully she didn't spend her retirement :) I read about all the horrible stories about what happens to kids in the news and in my opinion if someone wants a child that much then who I am I to stop them. I will admit had it been 87 and not 66 then I definitly would not agree. But hey maybe she's retired and can give this kid all the love and attention he/she needs. Elizabeth

I would much rather have a mom for a short period of time who loved me and wanted me with all her heart then a lifetime with a mom who didn't. Just my two cents. And of course their are other issues involved. But the rest are just details. Elizabeth Latham

THANKS! We're pretty much in the same boat. Yes I am petitioning this month at TVI. I am also finishing prerequisites for UNM as well.I'm planning on doing the RN-BSN after I finish TVI. I am already a bit overwhelmed with class and two kids and I don't think I can add a ton of community service on top of that in order to get into UNM for my RN. So by the time I'm done with my UNM prerequisites and CNA classes I should be ready to start TVI anyway. Right now there is a 2 year wait but most people I know have moved up at least one semester. I'm taking Pathophysiology 2, Math, Eng 219 and Spanish this semester. Have a great semester! Elizabeth

You can have ticks tested to see is they carry Lyme Disease but to bring them to an emergency room is just crazy. Elizabeth

Yes UNM is the school I want to get into. I am on the waiting list at TVI but UNM is really where I want to be. I will be taking Spanish as my prerequisite next semester. I'm sure you experience as an EMT was huge! Thats awesome for you. Congradulations. How long have you been in the program? Thank you analee and onherway for your advice and kind words. I just joined the Student nursing asscociation and they are very involved in community activities. I am going to contact the hospital by my house and see what type of volunteer work I can get involved in. And like always I'm studying my butt off to get my GPA higher. I appreciate your thoughts. I am taking spanish next semester anyway because I need to take a language class. I live in NM so speaking spanish would definitly be an aset. It is hard to get a community based volunteer position if you don't speak spanish. Thanks for the ideas. Elizabeth Latham

The advisor I met with in the college of nursing is the one who suggested I do all these things. She said they are looking for people who are commited to the field and know what they are getting themselves into. GPA is of course important but since there are so many candidates they can afford to be even more picky. It's very competative thats why I am also on the waiting list (2 years) at a local community college. Thanks for your input. Elizabeth

I appreciate your ideas. What is ACLS? If I don't get into this school in the spg 07 then that is when I will take the CNA classes because I will be done with all my other classes. I'm on a waiting list at a community college for spg 08' as a backup and I need the CNA classes for that. HI everyone, I will be applying for a very competative BSN program in September 06' and I am looking for some ideas on how I can set myself apart from others and improve my chances of getting accepted into this BSN Program. I have already met with the nursing advior and she was very helpful. I have a 3.48 GPA and my only experience working with people in a clinical setting is through being a massage therapist. I'm looking to see if there is anything I may not have considered. Here are some of my ideas. Please feel free to chime in with any thoughts or ideas. 1. Keep trying to get A's (obviously) 2. Volunteer work (community and Hospital based as per advisors reccomendations) 3. I joined the National student nurses association as well as the local chapter and will get involved in communty volunteer work through them. Elizabeth Latham

TVI has a two year waiting list and UNM has no real waiting list but it is very competative to get into. They usually accept 1 out of every 3-5 applicants. A high GPA and volunteer work/medical experience is what they look for. I hope this helps. Elizabeth

I don't have any personal experiences with the school as I am between TVI and UNM with prerequisites at the moment but I have heard good things about the school. I've heard they do not have a waiting list and that you can take your nursing classes along with some of your prerequisites. Good luck to you. Elizabeth

I'm so sorry it is very hard to want to be a nurse these days. I am planning on applying to UNM. After this semester i will start finishing up the rest of my prereqs. It is sad that tvi and unm can't mesh their classes better. I need to see an advisor as well. If I can't get into UNM I'll apply again after the tvi adn program. Good luck to you. I hope everyone is enjoying their break. I don't know what to do with myself. What is everyone taking next semester? I am registered for Phil 245, Nutrition 244, Itt 101, and A&P2. All westside!! I will be busy but it just can't be worse then taking Micro and A&P 1 over the summer. I'm so happy its over!!! Elizabeth

Diane- I'm glad you got the class you needed. What a relief for you. Everyone does have different teaching techniques. It is just a matter of finding someone that works for you.
