  1. Thank you all for your helpful inputs. We receive our syllabus always last minute so I won't know where to get the information from until the beginning of August. Does anyone have suggestions on a good textbook that I can use to make my own flash cards?
  2. Hi everybody! I am from Germany but moved to the US almost 6 years ago. When I still lived in Germany I was never interested in becoming a nurse. The reason for that is, that you really don't do the same as an American nurse. You pretty much do the same work as a CNA plus the work of a Nurse. I am not sure but the salary is also less than here in America. I have a German friend who is a German Nurse. I might be able to get a hold of her and ask her a few questions.
  3. Hi everyone, I just finished my first semester of Nursing school. In the Fall, I will have to face Pharmacology and Clinical Nursing I. The class ahead of us told us how incredibly difficult Pharmacology is. Therefore, I would like to use my summer to study ahead and get familiar with the material. I would like to get a flash card set since I study best that way. However, I did some research and the reviews of most of the flash card sets, mentioned that they aren't going into enough detail So, I was wondering if anyone knows a flash card set that really helped with the difficult material in Pharmacology? Any suggestions are appreciated!

  5. I am starting my ASN program in the Spring of next year and what I have heard is that the previous classes were always happy to achieve their C's. Our school also has a 100% NCLEX pass rate and therefore is very precise about the reading requirement. Due to this percentage you can be proud of yourself to pass your classes, especially since you are a married woman who has a four year old and works part time. I have lot's of respect for people like you. I am sorry I did not have any tips for you when it comes to studying but I hope it helps you to know that C's are really common in Nursing School and from what I have heard employers don't usually look at your grades but it might be a small issue when it comes to getting your BSN. However, I am sure there are schools out there that are not too strict about that either, as long as you passed your NCLEX. Good Luck :)
  6. It shouldn't be a problem. I took Chemistry for Health Sciences and A&P I, as well as Human Growth and Development together. Next semester I will even be taking A&P II AND Nursing Fundamentals. General Psy. really is a fun, interesting, and pretty simple class. You will be fine. Good luck!
  7. Same here, together with Nursing Fundamentals which will be a very stressful semester for me.
  8. Same here, NCLEX passing rate 100% as of '09 and '10 - Incredible. I am also worried to be not 100% prepared yet. I know my life will be even more stressful starting January. We have to buy and read 13 books for just fundamentals, can you believe that!? CRAZY
  9. Where are you starting at? Good luck!
  10. You scare me, haha. I have to take A&P II and Nursing Fundamentals. I wish I wouldn't have to though. Why "after the semester from hell" ? How many credits did you take?
  11. It is my first semester of nursing school, starting in January. Ill be taking: A&P II (4Credits) Fundamentals of Nursing (7Credits)
  12. Thank you all for your nice inputs! I feel much better already! Many good suggestions, I really appreciate your help!!
  13. Well I know it has seats for 60 students. However, this semester only 22 (including me) got accepted. I know hundreds of people apply, hence I figured I wouldn't get accepted. So, I really can't tell you how many got accepted back then but it does seem pretty scary! My school actually has a library with ocean view haha. But the library isn't my place to study because I always read out loud LOL
  14. You are right, before I came here (Key West) I also thought A&P was a prereq. but I guess it is not here. I wish I already took the class but when I applied I honestly didn't I would get in. I just wanted to see what weaknesses I still have in my application. I hope I will be fine, I know I will have the busiest schedule of my life starting January though :)
  15. Florida Keys Community College (FKCC), I am at the lower keys campus...
  16. Thank you all for your helpful advices. I am planning on reading as soon as I get my books. Only problem is I cannot concentrate for long periods. I always get distracted, so hopefully I will do better once I start the fundamentals. At my school the Nursing Fundamentals is a 7 credit course and the faculty members told us because of the study time required it is seen as a 10credit course. I think I would feel much better if I had my A&P completed. I was wondering if there is a lot of A&P background necessary for this class? @Happyloser, the NCLEX passing rate was 100% at my school but only 8 students made it through the program. This might be a reason the rate is so high!
  17. Hi everybody, today we had our orientation for the upcoming term. Obviously the first course will be Nursing Fundamentals and I got seriously intimidated by the faculty members and graduate students. They were telling us how tough the program is and that many, many hours of studying are required to pass the course. They said approx. 40-50hours per week!! So, on top of that it doesn't include the lecture, lab, or clinical time that we have to invest into it. Also, I have to take my A&P II at the same time to get that out of the way. I heard it is much easier if you have that kind of background for all the nursing classes. So, I was wondering if anyone has tips on how to study for nursing fundamentals and how you organized your time for that? Any advice wis appreciated :)
  18. I am sitting in the same exact boat as you! I will be starting in January and the NCLEX passing rate at my school was also 100%. Less than 50% make it through the whole program, it is a tough school and the teachers are even tougher (at least this is what I heard). I am super nervous too. We have our orientation day tomorrow, so I will find out more about the program. Nursing school is no joke and I know if we put in the work we will be rewarded. Just don't take anything for granted and stay on track :) Good luck!
  19. I would NOT consider Kaplan! Heard only bad things about it.
  20. I live in Key West at the time, there is only one College on the whole island and it only offers ADN. I was palling on getting my BSN right away but then thought to myself that I can get my ADN and once I have achieved that I can take online classes to get my BSN while working. I this this is the better option, for me at least. Honestly, I would not pay that kind of money you are talking about. Good luck!
  21. I cannot wait until this semester is over! I am so mad about the Chemistry for Health Sciences and Psychology -Human Growth and Development classes that I am taking right now online. The teachers are just terrible and never respond to any questions! Next semester I will be taking: Nursing Fundamentals (7credits) A&P II (4credits) Other than that I still need my Microbiology class taken care of but they only offer this one on a Friday afternoon, and it would interfere with my lab and clinicals for nursing. During the summer then :)
  22. I am taking Chemistry right now and have major trouble with balancing those! I was hoping to never see them again This is certainly something I do not look forward to at all!
  23. Bummer, it would have been nice to know someone else! Yes, I too heard that the program is very tough! I love that the campus is right next to the hospital. I hope we will have the lab after lecture and not on 3 different days a week. I wish you the best of luck for your program and who knows, maybe we will get to see each other one day :)
  24. pookyp, yes we just moved here! I am excited to start in January, I am assuming you did the ASN at FKCC? How did you like it?
  25. I also just received the awaited acceptance letter a few days ago! I am starting at a two years program at FKCC and I am so nervous but excited at the same time. I have heard so many (about half the class) drops during the program. Where did you all get accepted at?
