Asking offer letter of another hospital
I don't understand the hesitation. I would send it without hesitation. I don't think they will match it 100%. However I do believe they will increase their offer.

Nursing is the Biggest Mistake of My Life
Are you kidding me what med surg unit will not take a new grad???? I would call the med surg director and let them know you have applied and are they still recruiting i would email the manager by calling the unit asking for the email address. you have to by pass the system and email the manager directly letting them know how very interested you always have been in med surg and would welcome an opportunity to interview. every job i ever had was because i did this.

Would you report possible diversion?
actually i would speak to him and let him know this does not make sense and it looks bad on him and you will not waste with him again. let him know the other nurses will not be happy if he involves them in something illegal. that should scare him enough, if not i would report anonymously IF i was sure

What's up with all the 'failed NCLEX' posts?
i definitely agree the failures are coming from the for profit schools that charge 3x the amount in tuition. the good news is if they continue to have increased low nyclex pass rates they will loose their accreditation.

My preceptor is everything they taught us NOT to be...
I am giving you a strict WARNING. If you want to start your nursing career do what she says...UNLESS you will be held accountable. Like giving a medication without following protocol. Take the BP before giving med you will never be fired for that. Take glucose before giving insulin you will never be fired for that. However you will be fired if you call the doctor without your preceptors permission, you will be fired if you can't keep up on a med surf floor which, means getting your charting done. Doctors look at the charting so get it in there they make decisions based on your charting. Do not feed anybody or do anything extra that a tech can do, unless you have Your charting done. Please heed my warning. what you are expering over 1/2 the new nurses experience I including me. Remember you will be fired from this job before you finish orientation of you don't listen to NURSE Ratchet. Suck it up. You have to be smart enough to get out of orientation. The boss will listen to the preceptor. Once out of orientation do not do something a tech can do unless all of your work is done. I got in trouble for giving a bed bath to an obese stinking woman. I was gonna throw up on her if I did not get that stincth off of her. She is wrong on most accounts but stroke her ego. Always I mean ALWAYS ask at the end of your shift with a notebook in hand what Did you do well today and what can I work on next shift. They like that you want there opinion. Plus if she makes up stuff u can pull your notes about your progress with the dates .

SNF/Rehab - I hate my job!
Consider Psych nursing or specialty units like icu where the ratio is more manageble but the patients are more ill. I love my job as a psych nurse it is not as physically demanding and we get more help with techs because we have to constantly keep our eyes and ears open. Any psych nurse you meet will tell you they would not go back to bed side nursing in most cases. Being a psych nurse is the best think if you want to help people cope and understand themselves.

Placed on Performance Improvement Plan - What should I do?
If you like the job and want to keep it, suck it up and make nicer. I think keeping track of your day and interactions is perfect and keeps you accountable to yourself, sort of like keeping track of what you eat while on a diet. My other suggestions forget about confronting the techs. Assume it was all of them and say to them XYZ I just want to make sure you feel comfortable coming to me if you need assistance or guidance, if I have ever seemed rude my apology its important that you know I am here to support you as well as my patients. Kill them with kindness. Thrust me I have been through this. You are not in a position as I was, I told my nurse manager unless she can give me an example or make up one similiar please do not approach me in this manner any more, for if I don't have an example I can't make the necessary improvements. If you could take the job or leave it I start looking for another job, signing up with an agency is a good back up plan while you look for permanent employment it pays very well and easier mentally to do sense you don't have a threat over your performance all the time. You are on a unit that requires constant monitoring of your patients, chart as you go or chart in 10 minute increments so that you can monitor your patient properly. thats why I am a psych nurse. I only have one organ to keep an eye on and that is the brain and its mentality. In ob you always have 2 patients to 1 which includes the fetus.

Advice on creepy doctors?
Have your husband call him and be very polite. This should put an end to it. If you can't have your husband do it, have a male friend do it and pretend to be your husband. Basically "I am her husband, she is my wife, she has indicated to you she wants nothing more then a professional relationship. Please do not ask my wife out anymore not lunch not nothing. Do you have any questions? Good bye."

Stuck between Nursing Major and Education?
As far as nursing. I had to decide what to do to get away from a 13 desk job at Verizon. My nursing friends kept bringing up nursing. One finally said to me nursing is whatever you want it to be, its more then the sick and dying. With that said. Your options for nursing ranges from a hospital floor nurse - a University Nursing Instructor (the best of both worlds for you). You will need your Masters however with so many affordable nursing programs on line you can get your masters in about 18 months. You can work in a doctors office where you will be appreciated more, you can work in Hospice where you will be appreciated more, school nursing where you will be a city or county employee with great benefits. Its just so many options. I have had no problem finding nursing jobs. My friend works in a call center as a Phone a Nurse making $33/hr answering calls from patients. So please do not hesitate you will have a ton more options with nursing then education. Also nursing schedules are flexible in the hospital, most hospitals allow you to schedule your self up to your required hours 36 a week. Actually nursing is the most flexible scheduling of a job I have ever had. I work 3 (8 hr shifts) and 1 (12 hour shift). I have another friend who is a flight nurse in a helicopter. There is research nursing, clinical trials just tons of stuff. Long term the money and earning potential is endless and that will be important when you are raising a family or looking to retire and you have saved up a good amount of money from what you have earned as a nurse.

Wester Governors U -Statistics and Microbiology
Thank you for your information. I talk to WGU and they said if I do the RN-MSN I actually get my BSN first and will have 9 less credits to take on the MSN program. I read up on academic incest. With this in my mind I will definitely get my Phd else where. WGU is the cheapest and quickest route to my MSN since I plan to knock the ball out the park maximizing on taking as many classes as I can during each 6 month period. "How long did it take you to get your BSN and on average how many weeks did you spend on most classes"? Did you like your experience at WGU? One of the university here has a test you can test out of microbiology for $30 its like CLEPing it. I am going to see if WGU would accept this. It would save me time and money overall.
