My being afraid comes from hearing that they are really unfair to unwed mothers... I know one girl quit because of things that where said about her.

Plus they never asked if anyone is pregnant in my school

My whole issue is we do not have our hand books so I do not know what our pregnancy policy is as no one in my class or the class above us is pregnant. I am hesitant to say anything until I know what my rights are with in the class when I get the handbook with the policy in it...

Hi everyone, I know this has been talked about before but I was unable to find the old topics. So I recently found out I was pregnant surprising, word to the wise even when using depo shots correctly you can still get pregnant ;-) I started class in July and am set to graduate June 14th. I am due April 22... My question is how did everyone broach the subject of being pregnant with their administrators/ instructors at school? I do not even have my class handbook with all the rules and regulations in it still as they keep saying it is at the printers, I am nervous to say anything because I don't know what their policy is. I am wondering should I wait to get the handbook? It's already been over a month and half since class started and I am not sure when I will even be getting it....

It all depends upon where you live too. My school has a 100% job placement rate for all the last 8 classes...

In PA if you have two or more misdemeanors you can not sit for the NCLEX but schools will let you in, all the while knowing you won't actually be able to become a nurse because of them just to get your money.

I just want to say CHECK WITH YOUR SCHOOL ON THEIR ELECTRONICS POLICY BEFORE GETTING THE EBOOKS!!!!! I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH ( NOTICE THE CAPS) we are not allowed to have any electronic device including computers, phones, kindles, tablets, and the likes in the classroom OR clinicals. We where not informed of this until this past Monday when we started so a bunch of people are out the money they spent on ebooks since we can't use them in class and need the books in class. Just double check before you buy!

I would personally say if you are for sure starting the LPN program, while the CNA program would help I wouldn't do it. I know where I am it is a month long program that is 900 bucks and if you're going to be a nurse in a year anyway why spend the money? (I am cheap so just my opinion). You can get some experience working in Long Term Care facilities as a personal care aid without the cna class, in my state you do the same thing as CNA's (NO LIE) I do the same thing now as a CNA as I did as a PCA, the only difference is the pay rate. Most assisted living homes hire pcas without any medical backgrounds.

LUCKY! My orientation consisted of sitting around in a room, getting measurements for uniforms, going over the book list, and fin aid information. When we asked about schedules we where told they where not finalized and we would get them on the first day of class which is now MONDAY so I have no idea what to look over as I don't have any idea what classes I will be starting with :-(

Thanks for this post! I start school on Monday, however I guess Monday we are having a slow day. We are supposed to only bring a pen, pencil, notebook, and highlighter. We are getting our photo ids I believe and going over policies that should have been done at orientation, however orientation was a JOKE!

I agree, CNA job are hard to come by anymore. Ive been a cna for YEARS, and recently moved to a new area for the boyfriends job, think I can find a job? No. I ended up with a slightly more than minimum wage medication tech job at a small assisted living home. It sucks, does not pay the bills, but is flexible with nursing school at least. As hard as it is keep your head up, something will come along.

I agree with getting your house organized and spending time with family! I start Monday so I have been trying to get all the laundry caught up, mopping, shampoo the carpet, and making some easy dinners for the crock pot that I can throw in before school so my boyfriend doesnt starve. Now if I can get him to help with keeping the house work done I'll be golden. As for studying I got to talk with a few current students at my school and they suggested reading the first chapters of the books that we will be using right off the bat and doing the questions at the end of the chapters so I am ahead for the first week. That way I can adjust to being back in school

I also used the NLN testing study book and worried myself sick about the test. It was hard at times, especially the physics and the genetic questions. However it will not be as bad as you think, good luck on it :) take a deep breath and get a full night of sleep the night before. By already getting that study book and looking it over you already have a leg up. When I went to take my test 80% of the people in the room never looked over anything before and I did not see them during my orientation day.

My school was pretty easy. 1. Pay $50 to take the entrance exam and obtain a 60% or better in each three subjects. 2. If Passed personal interview with nursing program director. 3. If Accepted (found out the day of my interview) obtain shot records, physical exam, FBI background check, PA Child Abuse Clearance, drug screen, and dental exam. 4. Pay $200 deposit 5. Go to orientation and take a cpr class. My class starts on July 15th and they only accepted 32 of the applicants.

We where told during our school orientation that if you have a bachelors degree you can not get any grant money at all but to fill out your FAFSA anyway. However you can still get student loan money as long as you haven't maxed out on your previous degree.

1:July 15th at York County Tech School 2: 11 months Monday- Friday. 3: Because I enjoy helping people and RN school is so expensive right now. 4: $12,000 5: I have no idea anymore, all I know is it will take 11 months off the top of my head.

Every schools interview process is different, with mine I just had to answer 10 question then we went over the uniform and program. The questions where really easy, like why do you think we have an uniform policy, why did you choose this program etc. The worst part is the lead up to the interview and sitting in the waiting area waiting for your turn. I am sure you will do fine!

I had ten questions, and there was an 11th on where the program director wrote down if you where dressed professionally and clean. The ten questions where; 1. Why do you want to be a lpn? 2. What made you pick our program? 3. Are you planning on working during the program? 4. Why do you think we have a professional dress code and do you agree with it? 5. The program drops you if you get below a C, what are your plans to study to make yourself successful? 6. Have you worked in the health field before? 7. Have you taken any other college courses? 8. Uniforms are $60 for all three pieces are you able to cover the costs? 9. Do you understand you are limited on where you can work as an LPN? (usually only ltc and clinics and offices, however johns hopkins and the VA in my area hire LPNS) 10. What was your favorite and least favorite classes in high school? At the end I was told I was accepted! But all the questions where easy, and with our testing she told me she is happy if people that she accepts get 60s in all three categories I scored in the high 90s so I am interested in seeing how my classmates will do in class. I don't wish failure on anyone but I get the idea that my program sets people up for failure. 32 are accepted for classes starting in Jan and July respectively and only graduate 10-12...

Hi! Congrats on your acceptance, I too just got accepted to my program, however we begin in July. I have talked to a few people that have taken the course and passed. I don't know about your program but mine during my interview the program manager straight up told me that working during the duration of the course would be a very bad idea. However I think once you get into the swing of things that working won't be as bad. As for the classes I was told by students to read a head a little each night because the course goes fast and if you didn't read ahead to cover that days materials you could easily get lost. I also was told that if math is not your forte that you should really brush up on it before you get to the sections with math and meds. Not sure I helped at all but good luck!
