Outlook for experienced ICU nurse in bay area
I am in the same position. I have 4 years experience working in a Level 1 Trauma / Neurology / Med Surg ICU 34 bed in Florida. I would like to relocate to the SF bay area. Also plan on using travel nursing as an intro then try to find a full time position. Any feed back of pay scale and job outlook would be appreciated. BTY I also do adult and children psych, feedback on psych jobs would be great also.

What is your take home pay as Nurse Practitioner?
Can you explain to me the role of the PMHNP. Do you do more counseling or medication management. What is a typical day like. I'm a RN with 5 years Neuro/ Trauma ICU experience and also adult and children psych. Not sure if I should go for FPNP or PMHNP. Thanks

Can't Keep Looking at the Bright Side (I just want to cry)
This was my concern as well. Take care of yourself. As nurses we give so much and care so little for ourselves. I would broaden where I was looking. Consider relocating, some areas there are a gluten of certain specialties and finding a job is harder. Then take a lower paying job to get experience. And in all honesty it seems that the doctors prefer to hire the young blonde NP's. Speaking as a ICU RN, that's who I see working with the docs. Don't take it personally, men will be men. The smart old broads get work too, just keep chipping away.

GRE HELP ! What to study?
I'm planning to take my GRE in about 3 months. Can I get some feedback from people who have taken the test in the last few years on what was most helpful in studying. What books/study aids and how much time did it take for you to prepare? Thank You.

Earning potential
apocatastasis, I am a RN with five years experience in detox/substance abuse, Neuro/Trauma ICU and child/ adolescent psych. I'm considering becoming a psych NP. What is a normal work day for you. Is your job primarily medication management or is 50/50 with counseling. Do you do acute admissions such as Baker Act patients or is your case load primarily stable long term patients? Who makes more money a medical NP or psych NP. Just trying to decide what is next.

IRSC or Keiser for RN degree
I will never understand why people go into 40K dept for a ADN. Schools like Keiser, South University ect are so expensive. I went to Palm Beach State College and worked all throuh school and graduated with experience and dept free. All these private schools are rip off, state schools are better schools for much less. Get your CNA license, get a full time home health night shift job that you can study on, apply for grants and pay as you go.

Psychiatric NP Vs. Family NP
I am a RN currently pursuing my BSN and I'm trying to decide what the next step in my career is. I have four years working with substance abuse/detox, two years working with children psych and two years working in a Level 2 Trauma/NeuroICU. I currently work in the ICU full times and do the children psych and detoxper diem. I enjoy all three. My question is should I get my Master's in Psych or Medical NP. 1. What is the pay rate in South Florida starting for both? 2. What is the job outlook? I hear there are lots of FNP jobs advertised butyou have to know someone to get hired. 3. Is there a market for psych NP's? What does a psych NP do? Where do they work? 4. I know UF has a psych NP course. Does any other universities in S. Fl. offer this course. I would appreciate any other suggestions for other career paths. Thanks for responding

Psych nurse practitioner
Does anyone know the job market for psych NP's in South Florida? My background is in psych (adult and children) / substance abuse/detox/ Trauma -Neuro-Medical ICU. I love psych but I also love complexity and the acuity of being a floor nurse in the ICU. Trying to decide should I take the medical NP track or the psych NP track. What do they get paid and what are the job prospects for both? Seems like everyone is going into the medical NP area but few job postings for psych NP's.

Medical NP Vs Psychiatric NP?
i'm trying to decide what should be the next step in my career. i started my nursing career four years ago in a nationally recognizeddrug rehab/detox center as a lpn. in 16 months i became an rn and remained there per diem but went full time at a level one trauma/neuro / med-surg hospital. i remained at that hospital but i got a second per diem job at a children's psychiatric facility. i love both and now i'm trying to decide should i get becomean adult np or a psychiatric np? i would appreciate some insight into the job opportunities for a mental health np? how long did it take you to find a job after graduating? what is the pay difference/ pay scale between both if any? what does a mental health np do? i hear there is a shortage of mental health np's but when i look on the job boards i see mostly job openings for medical np's. any insight would be appreciated.
