@Hay RN, Nothing is private online (regardless of whether your fb is private). FB is known across the online community for NOT protecting ones' privacy & exploiting their members.

@Bortaz RN, I feel the same exact way and have similar experiences. One nurse in particular always flaunts how much fun they are having and posts pictures on fb, when they have called out of work for being "sick" that very same day. What a bad precedent this sets for nurses. Do people not realize that your online identity can follow and haunt you in the present & future?

This also happened at my hospital a few years back, huge influx of Filipino nurses who were subservient to the hospital. Then we became unionized - not sure that helped either.

Excellent points! We should not be stereotyping an entire gender based off some misguided nurses. Bad behavior cannot define nurses or women.

Hi:) I'm a single 28 yr old female who's looking to travel first to CA. I sent in my CA license app over 6 weeks ago (I know CA-BOA is known for not being speedy) I would like to start mid August if all goes well. This will be my first travel nursing adventure and I would love to have a traveling nurse friend to share that experience with. My family is basically petitioning me to stay in New England and they are definitely not thrilled that I want to go literally across the country. But this is something that I have wanted to do for many years. I don't smoke and unfortunately I'm really allergic to animals so that would definitely be out for me. I love to explore and see new places. I love playing sports (I hope I can get my bike to CA along with all of my other athletic gear, but if not thats okay to). I also love to travel and I'm crossing my fingers that I can get an assignment close to the ocean so I can work on my surfing and tan! PM me is any of this sounds interesting. Any advice on the traveling companies would be greatly appreciated and important questions to ask. Thank you

theopenroad54 & jdickrn - I've been doing a lot of investigative work and I'm finding out exactly what you are all talking about. A good friend of mine who has been traveling for over 10 years said to me "travel agencies aren't paying what they use to. They stopped paying good in 2005" This is a rude awakening to me. Travel nursing use to be the way to see the country, while making great money and being compensated for it. Now from what I'm gathering now it seems that it is just a way to see the country and not make that much money while doing it. Unfortunately this is all extremely discouraging. Travel nursing is something that I have been dreaming about for years. And now that it seems I have the opportunity, it doesn't seem to be panning out. I've spoken to over 10 companies and almost all are making the nurse run around like a nut. I'm glad that I'm not feeling alone in this situation.

Where are you looking to travel to? I'm planning on taking my first assignment in CA.

I've been talking about travel nursing for almost 10 years and I finally have the opportunity to do it. However, I feel as though most of the travel companies give me all the same scripted info, "We're honest" "You're not going to find it better anywhere else" When they say that I almost feeling as though they have something to hide.
