Can I get a hard copy of my license thru BON?
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I read other posts on allnurses. All posters agreed that BON is VERY slow. I will go there in person and get everything done. Thanks again.

Can I get a hard copy of my license thru BON?
Hello all, My family is relocating overseas in 2 months and the Nursing Council over there asks me to have a hard copy of my RN license for license application. I understand that Maryland BON no longer issues license cards. Does anyone know if the Board would issue some kind of certificates in my case? I also have some documents which need to be filled out by the board. I tried emailing and calling them but couldn't get a hold on anyone. Would you suggest me to go to Baltimore in person and ask them? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hong Kong Advanced Practice Nursing
Thank you so much for the information. It's very helpful. My family is moving back to Hong Kong this summer and I had a hard time finding information regarding the practical exam. I have my US RN license but heard that the license exam in Hong Kong is quite difficult which kind of makes me nervous. Are you familiar with any other jobs that oversea RNs can work for while we are working on our license exam? I do have some experience in the OB area and have looked into Matilda hospital. It looks like it's an excellent hospital to work for. But the commute will be very long for me as we probably will live in the New Territories.

Pearson Vue Trick - Does it Work Every Time? Part 2
My name didn't show up on the board until Pearson website stated that "fast result is available if you pay $7.95..." I took the board on 07/07 around 9am and finished around noon. Checked the result on BON and Pearson website around 9:00am this morning, nothing. Results were on both BON and Pearson website around 11:45am when I checked again. I know it's hard but please be patient. I am sure you passed! It does take around 48 hours, nothing less.

Pearson Vue Trick - Does it Work Every Time? Part 2
I took the board on 07/07 with 113 questions, not sure about how I did with the exam. Came home a couple hours after the exam and got the good pop up. 48 hours later, my name is on BON and I passed the NCLEX! I don't even need to use the fast result service as my name is on BON as soon as the fast result is available. The trick DOES WORK!!!!!!!!!!!! A piece of advice, check your board when you fast result is available. You might be able to check you name on the board and save money from paying for the fast result. Good luck everyone!

University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?
Hi, angelp71, First of all, congratulations!!! I am not sure if you are going to SG or Baltimore. But for SG, you may buy your uniform at any scrubs stores (Just make sure you have white top and Khaki pants) or you may get all the supplies at the orientation in August. You can easily buy school badge from Baltimore bookstore and iron it on your top. A lot of us, including me, have done so without any problems. About the textbooks, I know some of us will be selling our books at the orientation. You may be able to get better deals. Congratulations again and welcome to UMB nursing!!!

University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?
Angalp71, I am not sure if your question has been answered already. In order to register for classes, you need to download a registration from the UM nursing website, fill in the classes you want to register, and fax it to the office of registration . (http://nursing.umaryland.edu/resources/students/forms.htm) BTW, I have the 2nd semester books like Gerontology, research and context I for sale. ( I am keeping the adult health for NCLEX.) If you want them, please PM me. Good luck everyone!! You are about to start a wonderful journey as a nursing student of UMB!!!

University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?
Good point, JRFraker. The statement doesn't need to be wordy, just long enough to sell yourself. Remember how many statements they have to read one day. I remember mine was 2 pages only and I didn't have any healthcare experience nor volunteering experience. Remember, SELL YOURSELF. Tell them why you are the best candidate, what your strengths are, and what you can bring to the nursing field. I know many of our classmates also don't any clinical experience. I feel like for those who have, they do have some advantages to start with, but we all catch up eventually once we start clinicals. Good luck!

University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?
Haha..you are right, we did have a student who passed out but it's not because of the trauma, it's because of something else. Oh..gosh...rumors do pass on very quickly.:chuckle To answer the question about clinicals, no...for SG students, we can only pick clinicals especially for SG students. So as Baltimore students, they can only pick wherever that available for them. I've heard that it is different for senior practicum. I know one senior who goes to UMMC for her senior practicum. Clinical sites of adult health for us this semester are holy cross, montgomery general, frederick, WHC, and suburban. Even though the sites don't sound as interesting as UMMC, I know pretty much everyone in our class got a chance to get off the floor and go to the ER, OR, PPR etc. You will still learn A LOT no matter where you end up. hope that helps.

Sorry I made a mistake. Bdg III is the Camille Kendall Academic Center where you can cafeteria, library and such. Bdg I is where you can the nursing office and labs. Sorry for the confusion.

You are welcome! I truly hope that you will like SG campus and enjoy your time in the program. It's HARD to go through nursing school. There were so many times that I questioned my ability, yet, I pulled it through the 1st semester and I am almost done with my 2nd. You will learn SO much in 2 years. Regarding to your visit, the weekend is pretty quite around the campus and the faculty will not be there. The campus itself is very small. There are only 3 buildings: building I, II, & III. Bdg I is the main building where you can find the library, cafeteria, computer rooms etc. Most of our lectures are in bdg III. bdg III 3rd floor is where the nursing program office is. You also find the labs at the opposite of the hallway. Walk around the campus, you don't need to be a student to get in. I would still suggest you to meet the faculty sometime in the weekday if you want to. They are all VERY NICE!!! If you still have questions, please feel free to ask. I am sure a lot of people on this board will be able to help.

University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?
Congratulations and welcome to USG! I am in the 2nd semester of the nursing program in the SG campus. Like someone has said, the class size is smaller here. You will know EVERYBODY by their first names in a couple weeks. You will get to know almost all the professors in a couple weeks as well. Basically, you will see familiar faces on daily basis. I know a lot of students transferred from Baltimore to SG this semester, they actually like SG a lot better. We have GSS sessions for harder classes, like Pathopharmacology and adult health. The professors will go all the way to help you succeed. Congratulations again! See you in the fall.

University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?
Hello, I am in the 2nd semester of my first year in the nursing school. If you think the first semester is stressful, wait until you have adult health in the 2nd semester. I seriously don't have a life outside school. Well....I thought it's stressful enough right now...haha...not too much so until I heard how the seniors talked about their final semester....Gosh..it never ends. Anyway, I remembered my acceptance letter didn't come until the beginning of April. But the online status did update before I got the letter. So keep on checking it. Good luck everyone!

UMB's BSN textbook list?
Hi, could someone suggest which study guides you use for Health Assessment? The NCLEX-type of questions are really confusing to me and we have an exam coming up soon. Thanks in advance!

Pregnant!! Anyone else?
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I also had a miscarriage at 6 weeks before I had my daughter. It's heartbreaking but it also makes us realize how blessed we are now having a healthy and beautiful little girl. I was 16 weeks pregnant when I got the admission letter from the school last year. Then, I had everything planned--was going to deliver my little one and went back to school. However, it turned out my daughter was breech and had to be delivered by a C-section. Everything was out of my control in the end. I wasn't able to go up and down for 2 weeks and was in pain for a whole month. I deferred my study to this coming fall. But I have never regretted my decision. It's precious watching my little one going through all the developments. Anyway, things might not be working as we want sometime but it has its purpose in the end. Good luck and my best wishes to you. ((HUGS))

anyone from shady grove program?
TakeTwoAspirin, thank you for correcting me. I actually got accepted last year but I deferred my study to this coming fall. When I submitted my application a year ago, they didn't have the Spring option yet. It's a very good news for those who want to apply. More chances to get in. Good luck!

anyone from shady grove program?
Hi, I just got accepted to Shady Grove for the coming fall. The admission is indeed very competitive since they are only available for every fall and there are only 50-55 spots. I remember when I was in the information section a couple years ago, they said a lot of their students actually got 4.0 for their science subjects. I had heard rumor about how they would rank the applicants' GPA and see which campus did the applicant pick. Once the spots at Shady Grove were filled, they would ask the applicants (if they got accepted) whether or not they would go to Baltimore campus. Also, the recommandation letters and your personal statement are very important in their admission process. Good luck to you! Feel free to ask more questions if you'd like to know more.

UMB program textbooks
Hi, all, I just got admitted to the UMB Shady Grove BSN program. I'd like to make good use of this summer and read some textbooks ahead of time. I usually buy textbooks online because it saves a lot. However, on the books lists, a lot of required texts are either 07 or 08 editions which I can't seem to get a great deal from buying them online. So, I am wondering if it is okay to buy older editions for this program. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

A new (pregnant) nursing student
Hi, msmahan, congratulations on your pregnancy! You and I are in the same boat. I am currently 23 weeks pregnant with my #1 and got accepted in the nursing school. I am due in the mid of September but my BSN program starts at the end of August. I am very nervous about having a baby in the middle of the school as I am so new to the motherhood. I don't know how fast my body will recover and such. Since my program only opens once a year, if I decide to defer, that means I have to wait a year before I can start again. I really want to finish school and get my degree as soon as possible, it's a very tough decision to make. If you search for "pregnant and nursing school", there are a lot of people out there who have given birth and are able to succeed in schools. They all said it's very hard but doable with a good support system around. I wish you best of luck and a smooth pregnancy. I was pretty sick in the 1st trimester but as soon as I passed 15 weeks, I feel great again. Congratulations again!!

***Chemistry - Fall 2005***
- Start a family VS nursing school
Hey, Bean 76, thanks for sharing your experience. I do want to hear opinions from different sides. You know, my Dh nickname is Bean too. It's interesting. :chuckle I have been thinking if I could get a nanny for my kids but it is kind of unfair for them. I do want to bring them up by myself. That experience is invaluable.- Start a family VS nursing school
Actually I am very young, turning 22 this year, Dh is turning 31 and has a stable job. So, he thinks that he is ready to start a family. He didnt push me to have one, in fact, he cant! I love kids a lot. When I look around of my friends who have kids, I know it is not easy to raise them, expecially before they go to school for a whole day. They need a lot of care and attention. so, maybe we should wait until I finish school. :stone- Start a family VS nursing school
Thanks you so much for all the replies. I am so touched by getting supports from you guys. I will rethink about this with my DH. My plan now is just go ahead finishing my prereq. classes first which might take me at least a year. Thanks again.- Why do you want to be a nurse?
My friend who is a Education Ph.D went to the nursing school a few years ago because of the attractive salary as a R.N. I have some hard feeling when I heard that. I know it is the truth but it is still disappointing. what about you guys? - Start a family VS nursing school
