...and then you have people like my grandmother, age 86, and pretty peppy for her age who have a VERY off day. Forgetting what she had for lunch, who came to visit her earlier, falls of a chair when she was trying to fix the blinds and ends up cutting her leg and it wont stop bleeding, her BP was like 159/115, she maybe weights 95 lbs soaking wet. It was all I could do to convince her to go to the ER, because she didn't want to "bother" the ER nurses. I was like NANA GET IN THE CAR, THEY WILL BE GREATFUL TO HAVE AN ACTUALY PATIENT WHO SHOULD BE THERE....

I have dealt with addictions both in my family personally and professionally, this is not what we call "insanity" it is was we call "the DISEASE of addiction" and although it can make us on the outside feel insane trying to treat/fix/help these people, we must remember that they are suffereing from a disease, and until they are ready to get better they just won't. I agree with the fact that not all docs/nurses/health care professionals are not all on the same page, but at the same time, who are we to judge, it is our job to provide care and compassion, even when we may disagree. I think all docs should be mandated to attend and become certified through ASAM and maybe this would help some. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place I hear ya

hhahahaha my boyfriend just yesterday came out of the bathroom (now mind you he has had a cold for a few days) shows me his tissue and says "hey J is my snot supposed to look like this...?"

Hi There- I recently also graduated and have accepted a position at a large teaching hospital. During my senior year we had to put together a portfolio project and this is what it included... A cover letter addressing the nurse recruiter as to why you are applying for the position 2-3 letters of recommendation from either clinical leadership or previous employers in the field What your 5 year plan is for your future and goals Extra activies above and beyond school that you may have done on your own Why you became a nurse. Maybe not all of this need to be included in your portfolio but those are some ideas. When I sent my information to my nurse recruiter I included awards won and letters of recommendation. Those things definately go a long way. Hope this helps. -J
