I am a new FNP grad and I have been offered a job in Occ health. I'm very nervous as this is completely foreign to me. Is there any Occ health NPs that could share your experience??? My background is ICU/ER.

Wow, I had no idea so many people replied to my former thread. Most of you took this the wrong way. I was not inferring to someone using another person's name. I was talking about SSI, supplimental income, AKA people on disability. People who claim to be disabled and collect SSI and get medicare benefits but indeed have a HARD LABOR JOB and get cash under the table. This is the reason our healthcare system and why the US is getting into a deep dark hole. My questions is, would you report the people who are collecting disability and getting medicare benefits (YES MEDICARE at a YOUNG AGE).....when they are cheating the system?

I know I see it all the time, and it is starting to get ridiculous. I am nervous about reporting patients due to providing too much information that would violate HIPPA. Need advise and input on reporting SSI fraud on patients!

Nurses can make a lot of money without working overtime. I just joined a FNP group for networking and a LOT of them say they took pay cuts becoming a FNP. I made 75,000 as a ICU RN working 30 hours a week. A lot of times I only worked 24 hours a week. Never once did I work 40 or more hours! If you know how to work the system and you live in the right place, you can easily make over 100,000 as a RN. Just sayin....

This proves you do not attend WGU. Unless they changed something in the last WEEK, there is no responses to message boards. Your grade is determined by writing papers to assess your knowledge. Do us all a favor and join a discussion in which your are talking about the correct college, NOT WGU! Its almost not even worth defending your idiocy, since you are so far off from WGU's course content.

Mcclennan, there is no way in **** you are a WGU student. First of all, you posted on the wrong board, because ALL of us on here that have completed or attended WGU are friends and have completed the program. You are uninformed to say the least. There is absolutely NO discussion boards to post on, your grade is determined by your papers and some tests that are video recorded or taken at a testing site. Also, 90% of other colleges accept WGU. I finished my BSN in October last month, and now I am starting a FNP program in December with no problems what so ever. Obviously, for whatever reason, you are trying to downgrade WGU and steer students away. People use boards and assignments to brad about themselves? *****...are you serious. This statement alone confirms you are not a WGU student. A lot of the boards are bare to say the least, and most of the professors and course mentors are the ones that post responses to a lot of the questions. Most of the WGU students are parents? Really? And where did you get your information from? Most of the people going back to school in general are parents....but trust me there is a lot at WGU that I know personally that have no kids and struggled. High Mormon quotient on staff! Are you kidding me! I actually have no response to this ignorant statement. To all the people considering WGU....GO FOR IT. This has been one of the most pleasant experiences and is truly one of the best and most supportive schools out there! There is actually a few people from WGU that hae gone on to CRNA school and have been accepted! So don't listen to the fraud Mcclennan, who probably works for another college!

I am enrolled for Walden University 12/3/12 start date. It is a well recognized school, accredited by CCNE. I have a few friends that started in september who like it so far with no issues. 80% retention rate which is really good. And the cost is unbeatable! 23,000 for the program, they also offer the DNP post certificate if you are interested in that. I also live in a rural area :)

I didn't read all the posts, just want to throw my 2 cents in. ALL SCHOOLS ANNOY THE HELL OUTTA YOU. I have had so many grad schools call me continuously. Walden actually was one that stopped after I said I wasn't ready until so and so date. Then they waited and called me again after a few months. I got my BSN from WGU. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that school. Great people, great mentors, very organized and cheap. I am also going to Walden right now and start the FNP program Dec 3rd. Process was smooth, they reviewed my transcripts within a week, and I have not had any problems. WGU is accepted anywhere, as long as they don't require more than a 3.0 average, since WGU is pass/fail, the most you can acheive is 3.0. Everyone will have good/bad experiences on the same school.

Your information is incorrect. Walden actually has like an 80% retention rate. It is a very recognized and well known school, especially for the PhD in education. The NP program is new, just started in September. I start Dec 3rd. I have friends in it right now, they are happy. It is CCNE accredited and also regionally accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Why does it matter if you do it online or school? You are prepared to take the SAME test, regardless if your school if private, public, for-profit, or not for profit. You really make NO sense. There are hundreds of RN's that pass the NCLEX....it doesn't really make them a nurse except by paper and law. Its the experience you gain through clinicals and a good preceptor, along with years of practicing that make you a nurse, NP, etc..... Just sayin...

To be quite honest, I don't think there is an online FNP program that ISN't certified....I have yet to find one that isn't CCNE accredited....I mean....that would just be retarded!

I don't know how I never got emails that people were responding to this thread :/ I am doing good. I finished 42 credits in 4 months....took a break over the summer for the last 2 months of my term because of all the gatherings, birthdays, etc.... Plus I wasn't sure if I would finish my practicum (90 hours) in time. So I've slacked a little bit, but I'm very close to finishing and will definitely be done by the end of October or sooner. I am then applying to Walden's FNP program :)

You are correct doodledome. In fact, they are going to be getting VERY picky especially with all the nurses retiring in the next 1-10 years. They need experienced nurses to take over these very experienced people that will be leaving, or else the entire hospital will be run by new grads who don't have any experience, which is a very very scary thing!

What is UAB?

It may help to have a reference also, or call the HR department directly. I know the Columbia St. Mary's is needing help right now, have you tried there?

What is the cost for this program? Is it completely online or are there any campus visits required?

Almost 8 years ago when I was an LPN made 17/hr straight after boards. However, almost all hospitals in WI have done away with LPN's, unless you have worked there for 20 years. Mostly just nursing homes hire now, or you can work at a hospital as a tech college.

Milwaukee pays the best, just moved to the Fox Cities area (Oshkosh, Green Bay) and the pay sucks, but the people are a LOT nicer. Jobs are tight here, but I've been seeing posts that they are tight in MKE, although I find that hard to believe. I MISS working in Milwaukee, but its a crummy city that is going down the drains. If you have a family, I say move to the Green Bay area. Less crime and great to raise a family (that is why we moved).

Up north at St. Joes hospital is DYING for help, but you'd need to relocate. They are Ministry Health System.

I find that very hard to believe, I have done agency nursing in MKE for 5 years, just moved up north last year, but my Agency still tells me they are dying for help.

I have been searching and reading and reading some more. I seen many old posts of students doing the online NP program at many different schools. I would like to know who has graduated and what online program you did? Pros and Cons? Cost? I am considering Walden's online FNP program but it is new and too soon to tell how it is, but cost is great with books included. Any help would be great!

So in order to qualify you need to keep paying for 10 years and then anything left over would be forgiven?
