Brown Mackie College
Hello all! I am a March 2005 Brown Mackie Graduate. The group I graduated with did pass state boards on first try. As far as the school, its ideal for classes that start immediately and you don't have to sit out a semester waiting on a class you need for whatever reason. Some clinical instructors are horrible they are just mean if they don't like you won't pass but there was only 2-3 of them when I went and only 1 was in my clinical area. You have a choice in that school either work hard or don't. The ones' who work hard and want it will graduate and pass boards. Others will get weeded out all the way up to your preceptor month. If you fail too many classes you can get kicked out your last month for having too many hours and no they won't tell you till the end. There's lots of instructors that will help you class and clinical. I had 2 of the best clinical instructors that school has and there located in the fremont area. The school is accreditted. I am studying for my RN and if it wasn't accredited I would not of sat for boards. Only prereq's pass on to other nursing schools none of the nursing classes will. So if you fail out half way thru NO it will not transfer but all nursing schools are like that and Brown Mackie has very few prereq's : computer, psych and some nutrition classes will transfer to/from that school. And yes now you have an extra month of class and you have your IV cert too!! Its a good school if you have the heart to be in nursing. Good luck with your decision.

No the ones who had to many hours had to leave school and start all over at another school if they still wanted nursing.

Medication Aids? Are LPN's at risk for being replaced?
Hi all. You have all the reason in the world to be concerned. I'm from ohio recently moved to oklahoma we have med aides here. It was a concern for me due to the fact I wasn't knowing my patients received there meds or not I had no idea what meds they were even on for that matter. The first night I orientated with another nurse one of the patients was bleeding profusely from a skin tear and it would not stop, well when I asked if the Resident was on coumadin she looked at me like I was crazy and said I don't know. Well upon my own I found Resident was on coumadin and i had her PT/INR drawn the next day and her results were off the charts both numbers well over 100. Guess having CMA's means nurses don't know nothing about the welfare of the Residents nor do they seemed concerned for it. Not to mention the number of CMAs that seem to have there own drug problem are passing meds to residents who don't know if they are even receiving the pain meds or other meds needed. I thought we were supposed to protect our patients having CMAs takes away alot of the protection we are supposed to give them. So to all nurses who receive a CMA to watch over pay close attention cause now you also have to babysit them to ensure your patients are getting their meds. Good luck

Oklahoma Nurses
I recently moved to Shawnee and I'm an LPN. I have had nothing but bad experience with the LTC no hippa laws followed and taking residents that don't have capacity to properly take care of and many more... Is this a normal thing around here??? I'm starting to get concerned....

New nurse need answers
I graduated in March and took a month off. I've been working in a LTC center. I worked with an RN the other night and was very unsure on how she responded to a situation would like others opinions.... a residents blood sugar dropped to 46 she was unresponsive with mucous and phlegm coming out her nose and mouth. You could hear her gurgling to get air in. The RN tried to pour juice and sugar packets into her mouth, then left to call doctor never checking her stats. I put the pulse ox on her and her SpO2 was 78 and her pulse was 46. The nurse never told doctor this. She was upset that I put oxygen on her till she decided what she was doing. Needless to say a day later she has pneumonia. I guess I know you need to stabalize her sugar but why wouldn't you suction her first to ensure that the juice and sugar are going to her and not in the mucous. She didn't attempt to swallow the juice at all. And do you think I should have not put the oxygen on without her telling me too. I am a new grad and an LPN but it concerns me cause I would of done things much different and I'm not sure if my thinking is correct or not????

Oklahoma Nurses
Hi everyone. I'm from Ohio, my parents and sisters just moved to shawnee. But plan on moving to Tulsa area soon. Sister and mom trying their hardest to get me to move there. Have family in Enid and Oklahoma City that I have never met, so I'm alittle interested. Curious to see what patient ratios, pay, further education, and hospitals are like in Shawnee and Tulsa areas???? And I'm an LPN with IV certification here. Wondering if your LPN's can be IV certified and what kind of stipulations are with it. Thanks in advance for any information.

Brown Mackie Colleges in Indiana
I attend a Brown Mackie in Ohio. All I can say is read the fine print. They change the rules monthly then if you repeat to many classes when it comes time for preceptor they tell you you can't graduate cause you have too many hours. Instead of telling these students earlier before they spent the time and money to be at the school they wait till they had there money and there was no other class for them to take. Read and re-read there catalog!!! Good luck!

Florida Roll Call ......
Thanks RNPATL for the information. Hopefully the schools work out for my children. Don't want to resort to home-schooling. But thanks again for giving me some insight to what I'll be moving to.

What does your spouse do?
My husband is in management, restaurants mainly. Currently managing demo store for water softeners. He also has his own websites and is very much a computer geek.
