I actually have a very similar situation. Went from working fulltime nights in the ED and having a prn ED position, then switched to days because my mom passed away and I did have any help with my kids any more at night. It was still extremely hard on the days I worked because daycare closes at 6pm and school doesn't open tile 730, so I ended up taking a m-f no weekend, no holidays position. Took about a $16000 paycut and paying an extra $5500 a year for after school care, but I'm home every night with my kids, I dont have to worry about how I'm going to get them to school or get them home after schools. Being a case manager is a lot less stressful than an ED nurse, it has its stressors but its very different. I don't know what I'm going to do about school breaks yet, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I know I made the right choice and a feel like I'm a different more happier person because of it. My kids are 5 and 6 and they'll only be this age once and I'm thankfull I'm able to be home for it all now. I get that living is expensive but money ist everything and if you can swing it, I say go for it. ..

I know exactly how you feel. I'm 31, married, I have a 3 and 2 year old and start my senior 8/19. Last year 27 out 60 students graduated. Up until our summer school session, we still had 58 out of 60 in our class. I'm proud to be part of such a successful group of smart and hardworking individuals. But I'm extremely nervous about whats to come. Good luck this year! I wish you continued success! Believe in yourself! You can do this!

Hi kellerev! I don't think you'll have an issue. I have a Bachelors Degree, however I'm returning to school to become an RN. I had several maths that were higher than the required Math class for the nursing program that I was accepted into and didn't have to complete the lower level. I think you'll be just fine. At Stanly Community College anything less than an 80 is failing

I know this post is a little old, but Stanly Community College has a hybrid nursing program. Classes are recorded and posted online for students to view, you can do your clinicals on Saturdays. T

I'm so glad you posted this. I have the exact same thing, but its my left ear. I was diagnosed at age 12 and have had several surgeries over the years. I've turned in my medical form, but when I found out we had to have a hearing test, it made me a bit nervous. I haven't heard back from the school yet, but just in case they say something about my hearing loss, were you able to find a stethoscope?

I've done the research, I've been researching nursing schools for two years. Both online and in speaking with different schools about their accreditation as well as speaking to students who ahve graduated from different programs. That's actually how I found allnurses.com. I love this site!! I'm sure the links you posted will be very helpful to others when they are making their decisions on which schools they would like to attend.

I meant to say no ADN schools have the CCNE accredication.This is for BSN programs and higher.

Congrats to you too! I'm not really nervous I did some research and apparently no schools in NC has the CCNE accreditation. I know to many people who've graduated from Stanly and are working to be nervous! Good luck and I look forward to meeting you in August!

Congrats to you as well! I know of a quiet a few people who've graduated from SCC's program and none of them had a hard time finding employment. I know of two who work at CMC-NE and I know of one who works at CMC-Union that just graduated last year. But congrats again and good luck with getting into the other programs as well!

In webadvisor my status was changed to "moved to student", which means I got in! Anyone else attending SCC in fall 2013? Now that Im in Im so excited but Im nervous....Good luck to all!

In speaking with a few friends, theres not much of a difference in pay when you're first starting off. Most companies have a "new nurse" salary guideline that they follow. Like amny of the other people have stated, the difference is the career advancement and management opportunities.
