  1. I started nursing school at the end of August and have been trying to get a stethoscope. I've been getting the run-around, though! It's not their faults. They're just not familiar with my disability. I had a congenital cholesteatoma discovered at age 3 that required several surgeries between the ages of 4 and 9. I was left with little hearing in my right ear, an almost completely absent ear canal, a small what you could call eardrum constructed from one of my ossicles (lost the others). I have coped and adapted with my hearing loss for 20 years and just recently got a behind the ear hearing aid for my right ear. I had to get it so I could meet the minimum hearing requirements for nurses (and it has already improved my life). So, I need a stethoscope now. I can not take out my hearing aid. There is such a large hole that I would be opening my patients and myself for infection. What type of stethoscope can I get that will work for me?Here's what I've found during my research:Modify a binaural stethoscope to make the earpiece fit in the ear mold vent on the BTE-worried I won't hear sounds well enoughGet an electronic stethoscope that I can plug headphones into-I would have to wear HUGE headphones to not get feedback from my BTE (methinks)My audiologist told me to ask my professors. I spoke to several professors and they have no idea what I should do. I'd love to contact AMPHLS but I do not have the money to become a subscriber and their stethoscope overview was thorough but did not address my specific problem.thank you for any help/suggestions you can offer.
  2. I apologize for the repost but the website will not allow me to edit the above post. Welcome to the club ladies and gentlemen! I, too, know no one else who is going to be in the nursing program. I don't even know anyone who applied. So, it will be a shot in the dark. However, I'm sure we will see people we do know that we didn't know who are also in the nursing program (wow that was worded funny). Also, now at least I know of you :) we are all in this together! Ok, so I was running some numbers on books and here is what I came up with: Santa Fe Bookstore (recommended and required MINUS Sim chart 2 yr electronic med chart acc): 634.90 NEW 476.25 USED* *in my experience, buying used is a good idea. There is a problem though, some books will not have any used copies available any longer so it's like gambling to hope you can Find all your books used... Amazon (recommended and required minus SIM med chart): 515.10 NEW???.?? USED* *they offer many used books in varying levels of use and varying prices; the price could potentially be much lower. One down part of this is that when you buy used from amazon you must pay 3.99 shipping on every item because they come from different sellers (unless you have amazon prime which I'll get to in a second)If you buy from amazon you can sign up for a free 6 month membership to amazon prime student. Amazon prime = free 2 day shipping. So, not only will you get cheaper new books but you will also get them quickly! As I said this is from personal experience. No two experiences are alike I bought all of my books (minus the recommended test prep book) for 485.67 (new). I ordered them Wednesday and all but one got here yesterday. The last one will arrive Monday. Oh and add whatever the book cost is to the flat rate of $264 for that 2 year med chart access from Elsevier. (I posted a link to it in a previous comment and think this is it. Anyone else have any ideas? Maybe we will get it more expensive through Santa Fe and that is why it is to available to buy? I don't know...speculating.) As for scrubs, I am going to buy my scrubs from scrubsandbeyond.com I found some on there that I like a lot. Also found a stethoscope there (littman classic se ii) and bandage scissors for pretty cheap. I bought shoes today (JCPenney). Picked out a pair of plain old white reeboks 8D. My grandma recommended them, hehe! Anyways, sorry for the ranting post. I'm kind of delirious and have been up since 530 this morn. Let me know if I said anything incorrect... Also, what kind of calculators do you all use/have? I've been using the same TI-89 titanium for the last 6 years! I am so sad I have to leave it home while going to nursing school. It's my baby! Oh and by the way, my name is Jaime. In case you haven't noticed I am really excited about starting nursing school. Should be a good time. :/ :)

  4. CShaia: I asked about the current handbook when I made a call for my fingerprint appointment. The office said the 2012 handbook would be up at the end of June or first week of July (so very soon!). However, she mentioned the dress code was not going to change if that was a concern. Ok book question: I am getting around to pricing my books and materials and noticed there is something called the "Sim chart 2 year electronic med chart acc". I copied the ISBN into Amazon and there was nothing! I then copied it into google and came up with this: http://www.us.elsevierhealth.com/Nursing/Informatics/book/9781455710881/SimChart-2Year-Access-Code/ YIKES! Expensive!!! No way to get around paying less for that one, lol.
  5. Congratulations to everyone reading this who got into the program. I'm getting very excited! However, I still have a lot of school work to do before the semester even starts...wahhhh! Ah well. Can't wait to get my scrubs and shoes and pick out a stethoscope. Haha.
  6. I just applied today. Really hoping I'll make the cutoff. I applied last year but obviously did not make it. Good luck everyone!!
  7. Congrats to everyone who interviewed today. I interviewed at 9:30 and everyone in my group seemed to do amazing. Our interviewers were really awesome. I really enjoyed the time we got to spend with the nursing students for questions and answers as well. It was extremely helpful and certainly helped calm my nerves. Now we wait :)
  8. Woo hoo! I have an interview! It is at 930! I'll see you all there. Good luck in your preparations!
  9. Awesome! I calculated and got a number of 724.5. My stomach feels a little better. I'll let y'all know, lol. Again good luck to us still waiting and congrats to those waiting to interview in a month!!
  10. I also applied for RPL Summer 2011! Hi everyone. I did not get my letter yet but thinking I'll get it tomorrow. However, I am so curious...how do I calculate my score? Is it pre-req gpa or GPA? And how do you add up your TEAS score? Adjusted individual score on each section or how? I'm so nervous! Congratulations to everyone who got a letter to interview! Way to go! Hopefully I will see some of you there... :)
