  3. Good luck in your job search. I'm in NYC and it took me almost a year to get my first job. It also took close to 500 applications both in person, online, email, volunteering at hospitals and places of interest to me. Are you on linkedIn? If not i strongly suggest it. recruiters look there too. There's definetly no shortage of nurses, me and my classmates were hustling to try to get some nursing experience anything.
  4. Wow to insist on iPad purchases
  5. keep applying and consider relocating to upstate NY. They're hiring nonstop and are desparate for nurses and will take new grad. It took 450 applications for my 1st nursing job
  6. Get an attorney because it's going to get complicated and you want your rights protected
  7. Yea wait for official offer letter before you submit 2 weeks notice. In the mean time go do something fun to distract yourself
  8. Know the answers to why you why us why should I hire you. Also read john Hopkins nursing interview guide http://nursing.jhu.edu/life-at-hopkins/career-center/documents/interview_guide.pdf

  11. I'm answering this as a successful FNP applicant. You should just answer the question. Give specific examples, show them what you have done and hope to do. Your essay should tell a story about you and answer the question at the same time. Make sure to have someone proof read it too no grammatical errors allowed. Good luck
  12. LOL I don't think anyone cares what color your stethoscope, they care if you know what to do with it. Have fun with your yellow lime color. I picked one for my favorite color.
  13. answer the unspoken question of: What can you do for them? why should i hire you? What do you bring to the table. Your answer is all about how their program will help you. Give specific examples too. good luck.
  14. need a section on computer software skills, and what type of electronic medical record software you can use. Try to get a job as a patient care tech if still a student, volunteer too. Any nursing experience is better than none. Under your clinicals describe what you did. Google up nurse resume to see how others write theirs. good luck
  15. Hello there, Well I just got into an FNP program so had to update my resume. Mine is same as one used for work, list your 1.5 years of experience, show your accomplishment, all resumes should have: summary, objective, work experience, skills, education, languages, activities. They just want to see what have you been doing since getting your RN license, you'll be asked to interview and need to be able to convince them that you'll be a successful student and future NP. There's nothing "special" about the NP school resume that wouldn't be on your regular resume. Google nurse resume, monster resume to see how to write one if needed good luck
  16. Can anyone give me some tips on how to get an Ambulatory Surgery RN job? I have almost 3 years experience in adult primary care clinic and 5 months of psychiatric in patient. Every listing I see all require experience in PACU, ER, ICU, etc. I'm hoping some place will hire me and train.
  17. bassett medical center in cooperstown is always hiring, they have a new grad residency program and your best shot at getting in the specialty you want.
  18. sadly no. new grad programs are for new RN's so if you went to a community college and got your RN then graduated from BSN you're considered an experienced RN. Good luck
  19. Hi Everyone, I am trying to find a job in ambulatory surgery. My background is BSN, 2.8 yrs in adult primary care clinic and 5 months in pysch inpatient. Where do you suggest I start to look for work? All the postings I see all require OR, PACU, ER, ICU acute experience which I don't have and can't get because they too want specific area experience. I'm hoping to find a place that will train me. Thank you in advance,
  20. transfer schools and retake any class under an A
  21. I would take them separately if working FT because both are hard classes. good luck
  22. plenty of OT to be had, I was offered OT 1 day out of orientation.
  23. congrats on everyone who got in and good luck to everyone else. I'm glad this lagcc thread was helpful to you all. It's been a few years since I posted and requirements have changed so see nursing school handbook for updated details. I'm very happy that this thread took off on its own and other lagcc students are keeping it alive with questions and answers.
