  1. I'm really interested in learning what I can about different areas of nursing. Can anyone explain to me your job description as a forensic nurse?
  2. Neosho County Community College Class of 2014 (December)!!! We start in October with Intro to Nursing and Dosage Calc. I'm VERY excited and can't wait. We had orientation last month and met our instructors and got our badges, planners....Anyways, I'm sure I'm going to need some support through this journey! I'm glad to have found this thread :)
  3. Thank you all for your encouraging words. I will keep going! I was having a bit of a pity party when I posted this thread originally! Thank you so much!
  4. For anyone who was waitlisted- How many students are accepted to your program? I'm waitlisted and our school takes 48/year...hoping for a call!
  5. Here's a little back story on my situation. At the age of 27, I decided to go to college for the first time. I knew the only thing I would ever do was nursing! I started last fall and have completed all my pre-reqs except for Micro (3 weeks of class left) and Interpersonal Communications (taking this fall) I have a 4.0 GPA and scored an 81% on the TEAS V. I go to a local CC and got my nursing app turned in this February. I just recieved a letter that I did not get accepted, but that I was eligible to be an alternate. I wasn't expecting it. I have to admit it's hard for me to read all the posts where people are encouraging people to never give up because "it will happen"! I'm not a bitter person, but I felt really let down that I was not accepted. I feel like a 4.0 shows that regardless of a test score, that I can retain information and understand it. Now I'm stuck praying to get a call to get in as an alternate, and I am reading posts about people who were accepted to their programs and are struggling or wondering if they are in over their heads. I would give ANYTHING to be in nursing school, and I am ready for the hard work and dedication that it takes to succeed. Am I the only one feeling this way????
  6. It just depends on the school. I'm going to a community college and we were required to take the TEAS V!
  7. I cry all the time, in front of anyone! I wouldn't worry a bit. Because none of your co-workers are thinking about it!
  8. I think a US position is a great way to get your foot in the door. I started working at a local hospital when I turned 18 as the US on the Med/Surg floor. I learned SO much from my job. I would ask the nurses and doctors all kinds of questions. I became familiar with diagnoses', medications, labs, tests......It was a great opportunity to learn, and realize that I really did want to pursue a career in the medical field!
  9. I can't begin to think how common it is for a 4.0? I would really like to think that it's fairly uncommon LOL! I'm really not sure though?
  10. LOL, thanks guys for making me feel better. It is hard for anyone here at home to understand how important this is to me! They are very supportive, but they look at it like- if you don't make it this time, try again. I don't want to wait. I'm ready NOW!!
  11. Thank you, and CONGRATS to you!!!!! I will make it, it is just hard to think about LOL!
  12. Ok, here is my story. I go to a local CC. I turned in my Nursing App in Feb. Deadline was 4-30-12. We are not supposed to get letters until the end of June/ beginning of July. I was told yesterday that our school had approx. 450 applicants for 48 spots!! All I want is to be accepted and get that big fat envelope in the mail! I do have a 4.0 and I did decent on my TEAS exam....Any thoughts on how to stay busy and quit worrying so much? LOL....These last few weeks are killer :)
  13. Thank you everyone..This will be the only semester I will be "pushing it" with BSN pre-reqs..After fall semester I might just take a class here or there that goes towards my BSN!
  14. I'm also in the waiting game....Applications were due the end of April. I submitted mine in February...Took my TEAS in March and got an 82%. I have 29 credit hours down with a 4.0. I'm REALLY hoping to get that big, fat envelope!! We don't find out until the end of June/ beginning of July....I hate waiting!!!
  15. Thank you for your input! I don't think it's too much, however the last thing I want to do is under-estimate these first 2 nursing classes! I don't believe we can test out of the dosage class, but I don't know for sure!!
  16. Hey everyone! I need input on my fall schedule! Keep in mind, I'm assuming that I will be starting my nursing classes this fall! ( I should find out in about a month, YIKES!) So, here is what I signed myself up for Marriage/Family (This is a BSN pre-req, taken over 3 weekends) Algebra (BSN pre-req) Interpersonal Communications (online and last ADN pre-req) If I'm accepted into nursing I will also have Intro to Nursing and Dosage Calc. but only for the last 8 weeks of fall semester... So my question is, is this too much? I just did a 17 credit hour semester and managed to keep my GPA at a 4.0?
  17. In my opinion, you have to do what you can because it will pay off in the end. If you can manage the tuition (through loans or grants) and you are accepted, I would totally do it! At least you know you are in a program! You have to do what's best for you! I wish you the best of luck!
  18. Hey! I'm taking Micro this summer with Eric Row? I'm not sure who else teaches it, he was the only instructor for summer class...Do you go to the Ottawa campus? A 94% is AWESOME!! Good job! I would say youre safe for sure!
  19. I agree...I'm 28 and have just started college for the very first time! I have 2 kids at home, and usually have to work a full time job. I was able to get my pre-reqs down in 3 semesters! You can do it, believe me!!! It is well worth it if you are in love with the idea of nursing. I should have started when I was 18, but I let my fears get the best of me. Do it now while youre already in school mode!
  20. I'm so happy for everyone! I'm hoping to recieve a nursing acceptance letter the beginning of July! Ready for the wait to be over!
  21. How do you figure out how many points you have?
  22. I only applied to the college I'm currently attending which is Neosho County Community College in Ottawa, Ks.
  23. Wow, thank you guys SO much for responding, I'm really starting to feel better!
  24. Thank you so much for your response! Our school will have around 200-300 applicants with only 48 spots to fill. They use a points system to pick the top 48. 50% is based on TEAS score, and the other 50% includes: GPA, Pre-reqs completed, and getting all of your application/transcript stuff to the nursing department on time. I'm hopeful to get a letter in July! I have been asking around and a lot of the students that have tested this round are averaging scores in the 60-70's. It is just SO hard to wait!
