  5. I started out in LTC at 18. Right out of high school. I cared for the residents of that facility as they were my family. In fact, sometimes they "adopt" you as much as you "adopting" them. Stayed in LTC for years. Then went to psych. Awesome field, until I worked a shift for a friend in adolescents. OMG I was so sad!!! Couldn't work with teens, my heart broke for them and their parents. Got out of nursing for a brief while. Now work in peds. I recently encouraged my teenage daughter to become a CNA in LTC first (and go on to whatever degree she wants), so she will realize if she is in it for the right reason and so she will never forget where she came from. When someone says they need help she won't put on a call light for another Aide to come help. My daughter and I recently laughed, I started out with those in LTC and now with those beginning needing care. What a career I have had. Sometimes I am stressed to the end of my rope and wonder why am I even trying to maintain sanity and then when I need it most somehow I am asked about something that made me decide to become a nurse and my answer, I have known my whole life I was to be a caregiver, not just a Mom or daughter, but a servant to others. (Mark 9:35) I am trying to get my oldest son into the field. Lord knows we need some good men in Nursing! We have some I have had the pleasure of working with, but we need more! Bless all you who have or continue to carry that torch!
  6. Vent, vent , vent. I am new to this site. Seems great for nurses looking for support, encouragement, whatever you need. I am so happy I stumbled across this site.
  7. AMEN! When my Mother was in the hospital, I did not tell them I was a nurse until I seen trouble and same with my daughter when she was having my first grandchild, I did not want to be one to over step my boundaries. However I did stand up when the situation needed advocation for my loved one as I would for any patient. I have also found that I truely cannot believe how crazy some of these patients families are and patient teaching sometimes go straight out the window
  8. Amen! There are cameras everywhere now, so you know for sure they would be able to prove you tagged them.
  9. I have a friend who has been a nurse for a hundred years we joke and I have been a nurse since 2001. We joke about her being out school and me being fresh out of school. She is my rock and I am hers. Sometimes we "get on the roof" and need the other to hold the ladder so we don't kick it away and jump. I strongly believe that we each need someone who has experience, that we can trust and not pass judgement. Secret mentors if you will. We all possess something that makes us unique
  10. Me too. Although there is a family history (Mother). I quit smoking when I became a nurse and am pretty active, and HTN kicked in. Norvasc 10mg I take it before I go to bed every night. I am new to this site and so glad I found it. I can truely relate to so many of these posts. Thank all of you!
  11. By the end of Nursing school (LPN) 5 of us were on ativan. Class of 25 of us. They had us so stressed out. And i had experience in the medical field!
