Does anybody know a facility, hospital who is welcoming new nurses
I'm going to be on the fringe of DFW so looking into employment outside the major metroplexes will be doable. I know that job searching with no inside connections in a tight market will not be a walk in the park, but you've made me feel a tiny bit better about it. Thank you. :)

Does anybody know a facility, hospital who is welcoming new nurses
This kind of post worries me like crazy. I will be moving to Fort Worth after graduating an ADN program in Oklahoma and I'm getting concerned that once I do I won't be able to find a job. I realize that hospital jobs are scarce and am certainly not above working in a nursing home, but are those jobs readily available right now?

Why do people insist that there is a nursing shortage?
I agree llg. I also think that some schools are at fault for not accurately representing the job market. For example, I took an intro to nursing class that had a "nursing shortage" video that referred to 2003 as being in the future. The old data from the video was used to bolster the argument that it is desperately important for as many people as possible to get into the field NOW, NOW, NOW. They are at worst purposefully misleading students and at best too complacent to keep their curriculum up to date. Either way that experience was enough to make me look elsewhere for nursing school.

Geez...they're dropping like flies!
I'd start getting to be buddy-buddy with the smart people and bringing them cupcakes and buying them coffee. I'd rather study and be one of the smart people. That way I can buy my own cupcakes and coffee and eliminate the middleman. I'm cheap like that, though.

Transferring Nursing Schools - From one state to another
I am sort of in the same situation, but my husband actually moved out of state in October for his job. For several reasons I will be staying behind and completing nursing school before I move to join him. I was told that any in-state nursing classes I took would not transfer. This went not only for the nursing process classes but also for the three pre-nursing nursing classes (I know, right?) that the out of state program required. Something else to think about is that while you've satisfied the prerequisite courses in your home state you might have a long way to go somewhere else. In my case I would have had to take 21 credit hours worth of extra support courses that weren't required in my home state. The cost of those support courses alone was literally a few dollars short of what I'll be paying for my entire ADN, so in my situation staying put was a pretty clear choice financially. There are so many variables to consider with a decision like this. I ended up just making a pros and cons list and going over it with my husband to help us decide what to do. Good luck, I know it's not easy. :)

Is a BSN mostly theory/lecture? Difference from ADN?
I have been told that the difference between an ADN and a BSN is pretty much the ability to advance into administration, get promotions, and go for advanced nursing degrees. I don't know if that's true everywhere. The BSN program I looked at had a community health component that the ADN pathway didn't have. I'm sure there were other differences. I chose to go ADN myself, mostly because it will get me into the field faster and the difference in price was staggering. I may do an RN to BSN completion program later on down the line if I find that having a BSN will benefit me enough to justify the cost of the program. There are even RN to MSN programs out there. Hope that helps! :)

BADNAP summer 2012
It seems like I've heard of people getting their CPR certification at Moore-Norman Technology and I'm pretty sure that Metro Tech offers classes as well. I had to go with Francis Tuttle, though, because it's so convenient to where I live.

Do we need to take drugs.. in order to do our job?
I'm in social work but am starting nursing school this summer. When I started at my current job a few years ago I was told that it should come with a prescription. Almost everyone I can think of is on meds for the stress. It is no good.

BADNAP summer 2012
Just out of curiosity has anyone else signed up for a CPR class yet? I went to Francis Tuttle yesterday and got a spot in their March class and at the time there were a few spots still available.

Oh wow, that sounds great actually. I guess the thing to do now is to start applying for jobs and hope for some interviews. Thanks for the information!

UTA AP-BSN Partner Hospitals
Hi everyone, This is going to be a novel but I'm really needing some information and hoping to find it here. To start with I'm not from the DFW area. I currently live and work out of state, but if all goes well I plan to join my husband in Fort Worth by June of this year. As such I'm not familiar with DFW, potential employers or the nursing schools available. I started my first online prerequisite classes with UTA last month, but it has since come to my attention that I don't stand much of a chance of getting into the AP-BSN program unless I'm partnered. My academic advisor at UTA has been less than forthcoming about partnership. I asked her what types of positions I'd need to apply for and was told to contact the partner hospitals directly to find out about that. This week I contacted THR and was told that any position would work but that there are "other criteria" that must be met. The mystery criteria aren't shared with non-employees. So now, while I fully intend to apply for positions with THR-run facilities and any other partner hospitals, I still don't have all of the information I need to make an informed decision. Does anyone know the additional criteria for THR-partnered applicants? If I apply for and obtain work at one THR facility can I apply with UTA as a partnered applicant for any THR facility? I wonder about that because I notice from the lists I have that THR partner hospitals vary from semester to semester. Finally, are the rules the same for all partner hospitals? Thanks for reading. I really appreciate any information I can get about this.

BADNAP summer 2012
That is awesome. I thought it was going to be Monday-Friday classes/clinicals. I never checked because dangit I'm going to nursing school no matter what, but I'm really glad to hear it. I was wondering where I'd be able to squeeze in adequate study time. Here's hoping they take all 63 of us like you were told! :)

I applied too. Does anyone know the time frame for a response?
