  1. I went to SLU and I think it was a waste of $. I have heard a lot of bad things about Barnes-Jewish. Lots of my coworkers went there and they all complained that the instructors were not supportive or organized at all. What about UMSL? I've heard good things about the grad school program.
  2. ive been in my first assignment for 2mths now. that whole deal sounds shady. there are so many different companies out there, you can easily find one that will accomodate you. usually once your recruiter gives your profile to the hospital, the nurse manager will call you for an interview. if the nurse manager hasnt called you, they may have found someone else for the position but your recruiter should get back with you that day or the next to see whats going on and contact the hospital. if your recruiter is not giving you 100% now, imagine how hes going to be once you sign that contract. ive heard of them getting you in touch with other travelers so if he said hed do it then he should keep his word. i dont think youre being too hard on your recruiter.
  3. From what I've heard, Medical Express is part of a bigger company which is lower on the pay scale. The agency itself and/or the recruiter may be ok but I'm sure there are other companies with better pay benefits out there. I have not started travel nursing yet but I've done a lot of research on the different companies. You may find that some NYC/east coast agencies have better benefits since they deal with the area more?.?.?
  4. For those of you who have worked at either agency or have heard +/- things about either please inform me. I have decided to go with one of the two. I would greatly appreciate any comments. thanks
  5. DANSKO! I will never wear a different shoe to work. I wore nike shox a couple times and they don't compare to my danskos. Expensive but worth it. Go to footprints.com and close-outs for cheaper prices.
  6. First of all, why did the radiologist disclose that info about her chest x-ray? That is confidential. Second, just b/c she's on medication for 6 mths doesn't mean that she is contagious. It could just mean that she was exposed to tb.
  7. we do contact prec.-gowns, gloves and isolation stethoscope
  8. We are not allowed to draw blood from PICC lines but I also work at a peds hospital. The catheter size may be too small for that type of manipulation.
  9. I carry my clipboard b/c it's like a tray when I deliver meds. There are also handy lab values and drug level info on the clipboard. I don't recommend the one with the calculator b/c i heard that it goes out quickly and it's more bulky. I attempted to go without the clipboard one day and it just wasn't the same.
  10. -miralax with tube fed patients -peak and troughs b/c lab isn't allowed to do them (peds) -iv placement on pts that don't need ivs for any reason whatsoever -timed cbgs -tap water enemas -calorie counts on patients that eat everything in sight i dont work in an icu so my patients usually dont have easy blood access i.e. art lines
  11. i had to float to the icu today and the staff wasn't helpful at all. i have floated there before and its been fine but today was terrible. I am normally comfortable on my floor of course but they really made me feel stupid. they act like i should know where everything is and how all protocols go. it sucked. anybody have a similar situation today or recently? don't mean to complain but i need some cheering up since i had such a bad day. thanks
  12. i knew a firefighter that was recently killed from a motorcycle accident. his bike barely hit the bumper of the car in front of him causing him to fly off the front of the bike and underneath an oncoming bus. helmet and head smashed...closed casket.
