As others and I have mentioned in this thread. No its not. State BONs do not have in their regulations how long a narcotic can be on a person, that is determined by facility policy. Which, as shown in this thread, varies from 30 mins to no limits. The state BON cares about nurses stealing narcotics. Lets stop derailing the thread about this subject and actually talk about the OP's issue. OP: I have held narcotics from that are too sleepy that cannot even stay awake for the med, I just document it as the pt being too lethargic to take. I would not have requested a lower dose though. Just document, document, document. Do you guys use the RASS scale there?

Not at my facility. If I had to immediately run back to the omni-cell every time a pt refused a narcotic or I had to hold a narcotic for some reason I would never get anything done. I work on a trauma floor so EVERYONE is getting narcotics. People get into trouble with narcotics in their pockets because they forget about them and take them home.

I seriously doubt you would get fired for a single fall without injury. Perhaps she is calling you in to speak about fall prevention? In my hospital we have a fall score, certain numbers have certain interventions to do to try and prevent falls. Was the bed alarm on? Was there a fall mat in place? Was there a fall risk indicator outside the room? Did they have the high fall risk socks on? etc etc. We also have a post-fall assessment thing to fill out. Try not to worry.

Our CNAs draw them, if we don't have a CNA that night then the nurse does. We have an IV Team for super hard sticks.

Perhaps I am the exception to the rule but Facebook has allowed me to connect with long lost family members and friends in different countries, (was not born in the USA). Planning a trip to England to go the wedding of my old best friend that I haven't seen since 1999. As for the topic, yes I say were I work but my page is pretty locked down. Only friends can see that info, and I have very few friends, only people I know in person and no co-workers. I also never post anything about work too, just in case.

So I had my first day on the floor yesterday as a new grad. I am on a step-down trauma, burn, and epilepsy unit. All the staff on the unit were so kind and helpful. They kept asking me if I needed help, and if I asked for help they had no problems helping me. Random nurses even came to me and said "hey would you like to do X?" to help me build my skills. I never had the chance to start an IV in nursing school and I started my first one yesterday. So I want to say thanks to the all nurses and staff who take that extra moment to help a new grad out and make them feel welcomed. It is super appreciated!

Finished nursing school in october, passed NCLEX December and I just accepted a registered nurse position at my dream hospital on a unit that I really wanted. It is half med/surg and half step-down, burn, trauma, and epilepsy patients. It is night shift, not what I wanted there but I am not going to be picky in this situation. I will have 14 weeks of orientation. Any tips or words of wisdom before I start on the 27th?

Nursing school is what you make it. For me it was not nearly as hard as all the horror stories on here. Sure it is different but just try different methods of studying till you find one that works for you. Put in some time to relax as well, you can't do well in class and clinical if you are all burnt out. Good luck in school!

I take my NCLEX tomorrow, first time. Going to review labs and maybe some meds tonight. Always did well in school, never failed anything, no Cs, always 1000+ on HESI tests, been using saunders to study since before I started school..... Why is time moving so slowly? D: Anyone have last minute tips? I better pass this, I have 2 interviews for a med/surg postion at the largest hospital in my area this Thursday!! (what a week.....)

I do not know what state you are in, but the state of Virginia does post the numbers, perhaps your state does too. The class just before me had 18/20 pass and before that 17/17. Check your state board of nursing to see if it is there.

The pass rate means students that finished the nursing program and took NCLEX for the first time, it does not include any students who did not complete the program. If you school has a pass rate of 100% it does not include the students that were lost, because they never took nclex.

I don't plan on studying. I didn't study for many tests in nursing school and made A's, never studied for HESI and made above 1000. Some people have said "don't compare HESI!" in here but I am confused, perhaps there are different HESI exit tests? The one I took was all nclex style, no knowledge questions, a bunch of SATAs, hot spots, matching, math, questions with audio clips, and ordering questions. The classes ahead of mine have said the HESI exit we took was harder than NCLEX. If my passing nclex is dependent on having to study outside of what I did study for school, then I was doing something wrong in nursing school. That is just my opinion regarding myself not anyone else. Plus, it does not hurt that my school has an nclex pass rate in the 90's, I feel quite prepared as it is.

I used to never get the flu shot. Then I got the flu once and it was horrible, had to miss a lot of class. So glad that happened before I entered nursing school, miss more than 1 day and you fail the class. Now I get it every year, plus the clinical sites we go to require it, not the school itself. Rather have a lower risk of getting the flu in addition to good hand hygiene!

I am about to start my last 8 weeks of nursing school. It was not anywhere close to what these forums can make it out to be. Nursing school is what you make it. Making a bunch of A's and B's, broke up with my ex, got a new bf (which is going amazing), have a ton of free time, working part-time, currently working on creating some cosplay stuff, and I play a lot of video games (just quit WoW, but playing a lot of DOTA 2). I am not at some 'easy' school either, have to get an 80% to pass, I have not failed a class yet or even gotten a C, and my school has +90% NCLEX pass rates and a good rep in the area. Relaxing matters just as much as studying does, because how well can a person do when they are burned out? Prioritization!

Yes you will get a half hour lunch break. Yes, you will have about 2 weeks between spring and summer semester. It follows the same start dates as everyone else. It would be better for you to get the dove pants. If you don't you run the risk of your pants not looking the same as everyone else's and then you might not be let into clinical.
