I am the FT nurse in a HS. Be mindful of the assessment rules and scope of practice in your state. Be sure to review the plan with the RN who is overseeing the student (either the school or district nurse or the agency). Until you have your feet under you, call as you need to. It is better to be safe than sorry. You will get into a rhythm soon. It just takes practice.

Oooh, that's a little different. Hard stop there and I am an RN, unless there are specific standards or an approved algorithm. That's asking you to make a clinical judgment and I would say that it within their scope and not a nurses.

If all you are doing is transcribing information vs making an assessment and/or diagnosis. I'm not sure what the hesitation is. When they sign it, they are attesting to the veracity of the document.

The only nurse who thinks they never made at least one mistake, is just unaware of said mistake... Own it and learn from it. You will be fine.

Hmmm a lot to unpack there. I would recommend not using your real name if in fact that is your real name as posted. All types of people research these forums and there's not necessarily a lot of anonyomity. Do they feel you're wasting time by reaching out to the parent to advise that the medication has been given as ordered? If you have the time to do it, I don't see an issue with it. A compromise might be to check in every couple weeks just to ensure them that meds are being given as ordered. Not sure, how you are responsible for a teacher giving an antacid? I would sit with them and ask them what their expectations are and hopefully you can come to an agreement. Good luck!
