Not.Done.Yet, do you know if Forest Park will hire an ADN graduate? I am very interested in their facilities but don't know if they have gone the BSN only route. I'm torn between doing a BSN or ADN program. I will be application ready for the ADN program this Fall but would need an extra semester for the BSN program. I know I should probably wait and just do the BSN but if I could get my ADN and then do the RN-BSN program that would be ideal for me (as well as cost effective). I know you are a graduate of Collin which is where I am applying so I was just curious. To the OP, I live in Frisco and cannot say enough wonderful things about it. I have lived in Frisco for almost 15 years now so I am probably biased. I do like the Fairview area but it is just a little too far North for my family. I know Frisco ISD is a great school system but I think most of the schools in the North Dallas suburbs are worth looking into.

Sandra, I don't think you can apply to the nursing program until you have completed the courses which means you won't be eligible to apply for Fall 2013 since the application deadline will be Jan/Feb. Someone correct me if I an wrong. I am taking A&P2 this Fall and will be taking Micro next Spring but I was told I cannot apply until July for the Spring 2014 class start.

My school doesn't even let you take them together. A&PII is a prereq for Microbiology. Obviously this rule doesn't apply to you but I wouldn't advise taking them together.

I start Jan 17th and am taking A&PI and Nutrition.

Doubtful they take where you took your classes into consideration. Especially if you are asking a community college to say your classes are better than a community college. I don't think they look at all your classes if they are not applicable to the nursing degree when they calculate your overall GPA so that could be higher than a 3.2 if you did well in English, Psychology, and whatever other courses are part of the nursing degree. I think if you do really well on the PSB that works in your favor as well. All you can do is apply and see what happens.

Honestly I don't think there is a way around the requirement. All the schools in my area require A&P and Micro to be taken within the past 5 years. My chemistry from undergrad is still accepted though and that was well over 5 years ago. I think it is a pretty common requirement for nursing schools so you are prepared to start the nursing curriculum with fresh knowledge of A&P.

First off, congratulations on taking that first step. I'm 40 and am taking my prerequisites now as well so I know how daunting it can be. I believe you were given good advice to take your prereqs one at a time to maximize your GPA. It is so competitive to get into school right now that it is worth it to take a little extra time to try to get A's vs. going really fast and getting mediocre grades that may not even get you into the program. The school I am looking at has four prereqs - Statistics, A&PI, A&PII and Microbiology. I took Statistics online last year when I was pregnant with my son. I am taking general biology this semester as it is a prereq for A&P. I will start A&PI next spring, take part II in the summer and Micro next fall. I can apply to the program with Micro in progress but will probably wait until I have finished it and apply with all my prereqs completed. I have been told you are a bit more competitive that way. Our bio teacher also advised us to take our time with our prereqs since the science requirements are pretty tough and the more hours you take at one time, the less time you can focus on that one course. I think you can still apply with Micro in progress (BIO 2421). They go on a point system to admit though so if you apply while talking Micro you give up one point. If you have all A's in your other prereqs and do well on your PSB though you should have 15 points which I heard is a good number to apply with. If you don't have at least 15 points, I've heard its very hard to get in. I plan to finish all my prereqs before I apply. I'm finishing up BIO 1406 this semester and doing AP1 in the Spring, AP2 in the summer, and Micro in the fall. I'm shooting for a Fall 2013 start date so I will have to apply Jan 2013.
