Yes, CHG is better than just alcohol wipe alone. The swab caps have CHG in them also and that's the point.of putting them on the ends of your lines, there is no need to remove cap and wipe again. Those little Orange caps are saturated with CHG and alcohol.

I don't like or watch the show, but love the scrubs very comfortable for a 12 hour shift.

I agree at my facility only the urologist can change suprapubic caths.

You need to call and clarify the orders with the doc. What has the BS been trending before meals lately? They might need a dose adjustment, this is something that the doc would want to know.

No offense OP. I agree it is. A lot of people thinks that ALL programs need to be done away with. I was coming from a LVN perspective.

Sounds like some states value LPNs more than others as far as pay and the areas your allowed to do. In my area I make 27.00 and work in an LTAC. I guess those states feel LPNs aren't real nurses. Well I beg to differ I don't have the luxury where I work to push my work off on the RN I wouldn't want to, I feel its insulting to me. I trained and was educated well and I'm just as competent if not more than a lot of new grad RN and some experienced ones also, and I feel that your pay should reflect that. It burns me to no end when I hear an LVN say "oh I'm just an LVN" bull I say you are a licensed nurse and you should be proud of it.

The LPN program I attended was accredited and was a very good school. Very intensive course study, I had a very and full clinical rotation. When I graduated in 2004 my class was the last to have the program last 18 months. Because of my education and training it has given me for the foundation for the skill set I have obtain over my 7+ year career. I love being a LVN, although I will be advancing my education, I have worked and feel I am comfortable and competent to work there. Ive had serveral supervisors and managers praise me for my skills. I don't doubt that because the way the medical feild and the cost of healthcare has risen too that its necessary for someone to advance, to stay abreast with changes but it doesn't negate they fact that their are reputable LPN programs, and yes I passed the NCLEX on the first try.

I think you just answered your own question. If someone is pushing their religious beliefs on you, you can respectfully decline to answer and leave it at that. No harm done.

Yep...I agree LTAC is definitely NOT a nursing home... OP this might be a good option for you if you have any LTAC in your area. You definitely will learn a lot, and get that med/surg experience. Good Luck!

I work 12s I've always worked 12s....I wouldn't want it any other way. You get way more days off in a month then you would if you worked 8s only.

My first job out of nursing school was a nursing home also. I was horrified inside, I couldn't fathom passing that many pills to that many residents in 8 hours time, plus on top of all the other things I had to do. I guess the hardest part for me was getting to know the patients and how they took their meds crushed or whole applesauce, jello, or pudding, who likes theirs last etc...it took a while but I got it down eventually. Now since I've worked in acute care, I don't think I could do the 20 plus patients anymore. Keep looking for that position that you think would be most comfortable for you. Hang in there in the meantime. There is a silver lining more or less. God Bless!

I live in Houston, Texas where traffic from any given side of town on any given freeway can become insane if an accident occurs especially between peak traffic hours between 4-8. I live 30 min away from my job, and I watch the news before I go in at night, to see if I should avoid any freeways, and if I do ill try to use surface streets, which can be packed also, so I guess my best advice is leave early.

Call the lab.....but we use light green or yellow top.

12 hour chart checks is a small window to "look back" on a patients orders, to make sure they are carried out, vs the 24 hour chart check encompasses a whole 24 hour period, which is invaluable especially if its your first night back after being off for 3 nights if you work in an LTAC as myself, you want to know what orders have been written, who came in to see the patient, what other service was consulted, a lot of times its information that's omitted in report that you can find out by doing a 24hour chart check. In acute care I think you still need a 24 hour check, because patients don't stay as long as an LTAC, you need to stay on top of changes.

That's true its just so very frustrating to have worked 12 hours had the worst group ever and be told at the 99th hour you have to stay cause no one is coming for another couple hours. Agh!!!

I feel if you make me stay over because you're short staffed, the next time I'm off and you call and want me to come in.......my phone is going straight to voicemail!

I moved from Louisiana to Texas and had no problem getting licensed as an Lpn/LVN its no difference between the 2 Ca & Tx say LVN all others say LPN.

No...you're right nice people do not make up the majority of the population but I refuse to believe, or let you or anyone else choose to dictate to me how I will act in real life, all of that what you stated sounds like a person who feel superior cause you don't classify yourself as nice and feel that nice people are weak and inferior to you or anyone because you perceive they aren't the majority. That's fine with me, your opinions will in no way shape any of my actions. I think thats crazy that you would think that way but who am I to judge. Im all of what you named, and I'm heard, seen as an intelligent person, paid extremely well, and I am no ones doormat, but first and foremost I treat people in the same way I want to be treated, Like I said its easy to get people told, but its really takes a person who is strong and secure with themselves, to speak a kind word, didn't take your response as an attack, its not that serious, just two people stating 2 different opinions, I'm okay with that.
