Are you in Brookings? I'm from South Dakota so I thought I'd ask! :)

I'm in the ADN program at Phoenix College, in Phoenix, AZ. We start Aug. 20 and just had orientation Aug. 1. We were given a paper to choose our top three choices of facilities for clinicals but will not find out the location or the days/times until the first day of class. (I totally disagree with the way they do things, but I guess they just have to do it that way). It sucks because I can't plan ahead if I don't know what days and times I'll be in clinical. Maybe block 2 we will know sooner, but I doubt it. Good luck!

Hey there, I will make this short, but first of all, I would make sure you talk to the people (nursing advisors) and get answers from them as far as if it's worth it to apply. My opinion is, it's always worth it if you want to be a nurse, however, you'll have to pay for the application fee, the drug test, fingerprint clearance card, background check, etc. If you are okay with paying for this stuff and possibly getting denied your application into the program because of your felony, then at least you'll know that you can't enter the program. You won't know for sure until you try; however, from my experience and from what I know (current nursing student), if you do not pass the background check (which you won't if you have a felony) you will not get placed at a clinical location because you are considered a risk to the facility so therefore that's why you can't enter the nursing program. Good luck to you, but make sure you do your research to find a definite answer before giving up. Jessica

Amiklus, I have a friend going there for her BSN and she is going to be in class on campus, BUT I've read on their website and other blogs that you can also choose to do the RN to BSN program online only. Best bet would be to call them though and ask an advisor. Good luck!

Thanks fromthesea! That helps a lot. I was actually looking into Grand Canyon as some of my friends are going there. So, I'm guessing that I will figure out what I need to do and when by contacting someone at Grand Canyon Univ. I'm glad that you were able to find a job a few months of graduating! I'm assuming that you had taken your NCLEX exam right after graduation then? I'm volunteering at John C. Lincoln (just started) and am trying everything I can to apply to all the CNA jobs they post, but no luck so far. I don't have hospital experience so I think this is going to be a hard job to snag. Any suggestions or advice on getting employed in the hospitals? Thanks again for your input!

This is my first thread so I apologize if I posted in the wrong forum. Basic question. When and what steps to do I need to take to figure out how to get my Bachelors Degree in Nursing? I'm starting the Associates Degree in August at Phoenix College (ADN Program) and I want to go on to get my Bachelors Degree. Do I need to already be enrolled in a bridge program? Are private colleges and a transfer to ASU my only options? These schools are so expensive!! Thanks for your help. I'm hoping to get a job when I've got my Associates Degree in Nursing, but want to continue on to get my Bachelors as magnet hospitals aren't hiring RN's with an Associates Degree. Good luck whichever you choose. I took A&P 1 & 2 and Micro at Phoenix College (not online), in the evening and worked my full time job 7am-5pm so it worked for me. I have learned that if you want to finish school, you need to put school first, so if it were me, I would sign up for whichever class I wanted (morning or night) THEN find a job that will work with those hours. Even if it's a part time job. If you get a job as a CNA a lot of the time, you will have a rotating schedule so that wouldn't work with your school hours, however, some places will work with your schedule. I'm trying to get into a hospital as a CNA, but after all of the applications, no luck so far. I start nursing school in August and I need to keep my full time job but don't know how I'm going to do it. We all need luck huh? :)

Thanks for your input. I'm hoping that will help me. I'm starting the ADN program in August and I work at an engineering firm. (not relevant, I know, ha ha). I have my CNA certification, but don't work as one because I can't live off the pay. So, I've heard it's super hard to get a job as an RN as a new graduate (I'm in Phoenix, AZ) so I'm volunteering at a hospital to get my foot in the door. Hopefully this will work. :)

Where do you work? I'm trying to find a CNA job while I'm in nursing school. I will have to probably quit my full time job because the hours won't be flexible. Thanks for your input!

I start in August and I'm terrified. Mostly because I will more than likely be let go from my full time job (because the hours aren't flexible) and will have to somehow find a part time job that will pay my bills. TERRIFIED!

Hey tammy, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! Trust me, I am in the same boat and for several reasons. I start in August at Phoenix College and I'm petrified as well. I'm 29 and have been working full time at my job for 7 years. I have been working on getting to nursing school basically since I graduated high school in 2001! Arg! Many obstacles have fallen in my way and I'm finally starting in August! Yay. However, I'm stressed as all get out because of financial reasons. My job will see if they can work with my school schedule but it's not promising. I live alone and rent is about $650 plus I have bills and student loans I'm paying on. If I don't make at least $1700/month while in school I don't know what I'm going to do. I am getting financial aid but don't know how much I've been given yet and probably won't know until this summer. It's frustrating...no clue how I'm goign to do it, because if I have to find a different job, there's no way I can pay my bills earning less than $15/hr. I make $17.50 an hour right now and I still live paycheck to paycheck. Advice? Also, which school will you be in? Best of luck girl!!

This was very helpful input. I will be starting the ADN Program this August so I'm pretty nervous because I live alone (rent!!!), and work full time and have no savings. My work may work with me cutting down my hours during the week, but they may have to let me go. It's getting a little stressful because I only get one shot at passing nursing school right? And I've waited for SO LONG that I can't afford to mess up! One day at a time I guess. I'm hoping my tuition and expenses will be covered by student loans. (crossing my fingers)

Hey! Congrats on starting school in the fall. I just got accepted as well and will start the ADN program at Phoenix College. I have so many questions too, but my sister is a nurse so I get a lot of info from her. I do have to say that I'm super frustrated because I need to figure out if my employer will work with my school schedule in the fall but there is no way to know what the nursing schedule will be like until we start. I don't think that's the way it should be because people have kids and jobs and other stuff going on and need to plan. So, basically, I could be "let go" from my job after school starts if the schedule doesn't work out with school..How is that even right?? Someway, somehow, there's got to be a way to know ahead of time time day and time classes are. I don't think is fair at all. How are we suppose to plan?
